Jon Haigwood Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I picked up a AMT American Graffiti 32 Ford Kit at a swap meet that I thought was sealed but as it turned out it was Resealed by the seller. It looks like it is all there but it has a lot of parts that don't go with the Milner Coupe. Such as a unchromed tree with a blower carb setup and something that looks like a weird velocity stack. The chrome tree also has this weird part but it's chromed. There are 7 wheels on the tree 4 that go on the Milner coupe 1 rear wire spoked, 1 front wire spoked and 1 rear deep mag. Is there a way to find out what other kits use these parts ? I wouldn't mind finding another rear deep mag to go with the one I have. Thanks
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Look in some "Switchers" kits if you have access to any. The carbs, stacks and blower you have on the tree, with the spike on the stack and the holes in the carbs and blower, are pretty much trademark Switchers parts. I have the '32 Sedan / Phaeton Switchers kit on the shelf, just looked in it. It has the same parts tree as your blower / engine tree, but it's chromed. The large chrome tree in the kit pictured below also has 4 of the wire basket-mags you have (2 deep, 2 shallow), plus a pair of deep and a pair of shallow 5-spoke mags that match yours. Jon Haigwood Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Thanks for the info Funny thing is the kit sitting next to this one is the same Switcher kit you have. I will check it out Thanks Again Jon
Snake45 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Yeah, the Milner car is basically the old MPC Switcher, but now with a chopped top instead of the original's unchopped. The AMT "Coddington" '32 Ford is also the same kit (now molded in dark red) except the only wheels/tires are now those big goofy "modern" things. I'm building mine as a '60s Altered, with some suitable wheels and tires of course. These kits are actually pretty decent "parts mines" for rod parts. Two complete front axles, etc.
Jon Haigwood Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) From all the extra parts in the Switchers, Milner Coupe and the AMT (actually Revell oops)32 5 window 2 in 1, I have enough parts to build another 32 only missing the frame. Edited November 22, 2014 by Jon Haigwood

Yeah. You might need another set of front radius rods too, I forget. As far as that kit's frame, it's pretty basic and doesn't bear much resemblance to a real '32 Ford's. So you can't really make a good open-wheel highboy out of it (I'm doing one of mine as a drag Altered, and another as a fendered Gasser). Shouldn't be too hard to whip up a scratch frame out of Evergreen styrene strips (they have some that are about the right size) and do an Altered or something of the sort. I think I'm gonna use one of the spare front axles on an AMT '32 roadster I'm also planning to do as an Altered. Maybe the extra rear axle too, dunno yet.
Jon Haigwood Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) The AMT 32 2n1 kit has two sets of radius rods. One set for the High Boy and a shorter set for the Coupe. I have two kits and will be building on as a High Boy and one as a Coupe, so I have a extra set of each. Not sure yet about the steering linkage. correction: should be Revell Edited November 22, 2014 by Jon Haigwood
Snake45 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Interesting! I'm gonna have to take another look at mine. I've been mainly playing around with the Coddington and orginal Switchers issues of the kit, don't think I've ever dug deeply into the Graffiti version.
Jon Haigwood Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 The extra radius rods are in the Revell (sorry) 32 5 window kit
