Help with applying a gloss over decals without ruining the decals.

I did a model a while back that had some nice decals,but when I went to apply the Tamiya TS-13 clear the decals wrinkeled up and were mutalated, any help to prevent this from happenoing again?

Try Future. It doesn't affect decals; when dry, it's rock hard and can be polished to a great looking shine. You can also dip windows and headlight lenses in it and they end up crystal clear. Propheads use this method on aircraft canopies.

Just an FYI... Future is great, but you'll never find it at the store. It's not called "Future" anymore... now it's called "Pledge Floor Care."

You don't want the cleaner, you want the finish... which is nothing more than clear acrylic:

Thank you Joseph. I have been using future for over 20 years and it does work great for mostly everything I do after I have painted something,and want to eith decal or dip glass. I also have a passion for using a clear lacquer that can be polished to a very high shine. Is there a protectant for the decals before applying any lacquer, or should I apply a light mist coat of lacquer to the decals and work my way up carefully?

Thank you Harry, I have been using future for a good 20 years plus, also thank you for helping me to get to the correct forum. Im just a tad bit warry of using lacquer over decals and am looking for a medium protectant to go over the decals and then spray on the lacquer. Any help would be most appreciated. Steve, you can spray a light coat of PLEDGE (I hear ya, Harry ) floor finish or clear gloss acrylic onto the decals prior to applying them on the model. This will create a barrier between the decal film and the lacquer, preventing the lacquer from destroying the decals.

You can use The Treatment Model Wax or Novus No. 2 Fine Scratch Remover. I've used them in the past and had good results.

I've used TS-13 over decals- the trick is to build up a barrier layer of several light mist coats and let it dry before you blow on a wet coat.

Also, if you use a decal setting solution like Micro-set, be sure to let the acid in the Micro-set completely dissipate, which can take several days.

Future is the preferred material.If you insist on using paint over your decals Testor "One Coat" clear works fine and won't wrinkle them like TS-13 does.Spray it as lightly as possible-it goes on a bit thick like all Testor paints but once it's polished out it looks great.

I brush a coat of future over just the decals before I spray the TS-13 over them.

I agree with Mike, I have used TS13 over decals with no problem. Just go easy on the first couple of coats.

Wouldn't it be best to airbrush the Future rather than using a paint brush? Can the Future (Pledge) be used straight in an airbrush or does it need to be diluted?
