ferrari87 Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Thanks guys! I've got most of the chassis parts painted. I have to finish the shocks, I'm painting them Green Pearl to simulate TEIN coilovers. I also have to finish up the brake booster and ABS unit so I can begin running brake lines. I did suffer a small set back during painting however, I dropped the steering tie rod and the piece that mounts to the steering knuckle broke. So I set out to make my own. Here's the results..I have to say, I'm mighty proud. I tested it and it mounts to the knuckle correctly. I won't glue the tie rod to the new connector until I'm ready to assemble the front suspension since I want to ensure the placement is perfectly aligned. I'll try to get most of the suspension pieces up tomorrow.
TFchronos Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Sweet paint and decal work! Carbon fiber really looks good!
ferrari87 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 I really appreciate that Jonathan! Thank you! I'm really looking forward to making some big progress tomorrow.
ferrari87 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Hey guys, here's my normal big weekly update! I've paid most of my attention to the chassis and a little of my attention to the window trim on the body. I was't too thrilled with the one brake line running from ABS Unit to Brake Booster. It was supposed to be level but I failed to bend the wire enough.
matthijsgrit Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Isn't it just incredible how much HP one can get out of these little engines? I mean, lool at it...!! Nice work!
ferrari87 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Its pretty awesome how much they can push. Particularly how high the RPM's get. I'm really excited to see this one through.
Zarana-X Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) Looking good. It's amazing how small a rotary engine is, but they're pretty much solid metal; you don't have a big open cavern with the crank and rods flailing around, so it's also amazing how heavy they are. Edited January 21, 2015 by Zarana-X
ferrari87 Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 I have heard that before but it was from a displacement junkie and he referred to the engine as a good anchor for a ship. I have never had the opportunity to drive one, but I think its sharest a spit with the R-33 as the prettiest 90s sports car from the land of the rising sun.
ferrari87 Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Hey guys! Here's a small update. I've added the CF to the front lip. Basically, it was a huge fiasco. After a few failed attempts, I accidentally knocked over both the Sol and Set bottles right onto the sheet of CF. Using a large piece, I tossed it onto the lip and hoped for the best. Amazingly, it worked! It doesn't look amazing but it looks alright. I hopefully will have the engine together and the suspension assembled tomorrow.
ferrari87 Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Thanks guys! Please ignore that blue spot on the radiator...i knocked the intercooler out of place during the spill.
ferrari87 Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 Another weekly update gents. I have assembled the chassis and run the brake lines as well as finished the interior and engine.
Twokidsnosleep Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 That is a good looking belly and interior Really like the brake line and master cylinder lines you did...what tubing are you using??? Great stuff, thanks for the WIP
ferrari87 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 That is a good looking belly and interior Really like the brake line and master cylinder lines you did...what tubing are you using??? Great stuff, thanks for the WIP I used copper wire initially labelled as battery cable from hobbylinc.com. The brake lines are braided wire from hobbylinc.com as well. I believe both are made by Detail Master. Thanks for your support Scott! Glad you are following along. Hopefully, I can wrap this baby up tomorrow!
Twokidsnosleep Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) Hey, no worries man! Keep plugging away, but take your time as well. I spoil my stuff getting anxious to finish too soon It is a great build you are showing, seriously Edited February 3, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep
ferrari87 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Thanks Scott. I've had a few issues that have popped up but it's part of learning, each successive car will be better than the last (hopefully). I won't be finishing the RX-7 today as I have to take car of my 1:1 civic si's maintenance needs but I should be able to finish up the taillight, side markers, and a polish and wax over the coming days. I have an FTO and an S-15 patiently waiting attention!
ferrari87 Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Well guys, I can call here COMPLETE! Finally...Pictures with my garage facade will be in Under Glass but here's a quick workbench photo to complete this build. It didn't come out perfectly, the hood has given me some fits and don't get me started on the front windscreen but I had a blast building this and I am pleased with the outcome...I did my best and I learned along the way.
1hobby1 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I really admire you're builds they're immaculate. Great job on this one
