Superpeterbilt Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Has anyone found a shade of white that matches the Cali Hauler arrow decals? Im refering to paint for the roof to replicate the box art.
Bennyg Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I'm looking at using tamiya racing white. I'm not sure if that's a complete match though. Ben
Superpeterbilt Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 How soon are you going to test it?
guitarsam326 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Id like to get a good match for the burgundy/red or whatever and the white, I can't get over how good the box art looks!
Mackvision Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I am going to try decanted Krylon gloss Burgundy for the base color,Krylon gloss Antique Ivory for the trim. The box art colors really appeal to me as well!.............................Mark
Bennyg Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 How soon are you going to test it? I'm away for work right now. Might check it this week end. Cheers. Ben
Superpeterbilt Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 I guess my plan is to paint the hood and apply the decals, then test some shades of white on the cab until it jives. Then Ill tape off the roof and finish the cab.
Old Buckaroo Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I'm going to say your base coat will affect the color. The ones I put on my Green Pete have a creamy light green color to them in the light.

Were your decals original, or from the re-issue?

Superpeterbilt Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 They are from the re-issue. Hmmm.... Maybe Ill carefully mask off where decals are going to go over a white basecoat and go that route. This is stressfull.
Bennyg Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 The decals definitely look more cream than white. I plan to build mine with tamiya racing white roof if it matches the decals and ts8 Italian red for all the red on it. Cheers Ben
Chuck Most Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 The closest paint I have that matches them is Ford Wimbledon White- it's just a touch lighter than the decals but pretty close.
Bennyg Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Hi fellas. I tested tamiya ts 7 racing white. It's close but its about 1 shade lighter than the decals. I plan on using it because I don't always have access to an airbrush, plus trying to mix that colour would be a nightmare as I don't have access to a wide range of paints either. Cheers. Ben
37 caddy Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 If you had 2 sets of them you could apply 1 over the other and then the color should be true, they are sort of transparent, that is why they dont look real white,Or as someone mentioned is to paint the white under them,if you were using base coat/Clearcoat the base is very thin and would not leave much of an edge,i would just put on a mist coat of white and it would help with the decal not bleeding through,Spray both colors and apply the decals then clearcoat it,it would really pop in the sun. Superpeterbilt Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Thanks for the info. Thats a drag that it doesnt match. We'll get this figured out.
Bennyg Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Maybe we should use the decals as a template? That might work.
olsbooks Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) If you mess with acrylics, consider Vallejo. They have oodles of whites/creams. It is only about $3 a bottle full price at Hobby Lobby though HL does not carry the full line. It can be diluted down for use in an airbrush. Vallejo's website has real good color charts. Good luck. Peace. Edited January 16, 2015 by olsbooks
Superpeterbilt Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 I got lucky today. I went browsing the spray paint at lowes and brought a decal with me. I found a match thats good enough for me. This is a Valspar spray green highland(its not really green).
