gtx6970 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Whats avail. in 1/25th scale ? I see the Revell kit,, is it a multi piece body .? if so, any comments good or bad ? is the retractabe kit the only thing avail ? Any others avail in recent times ?
Craig Irwin Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 As for recent plastic kits thats all she wrote. for a 60+ year old tool it builds up fairly nice with some work. Better than it has a right to. Lots of resin choices, easiest to find is the Jimmy Flinstone country sedan wagon.
Craig Irwin Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Do some searching here on this site, stuff like this is all around. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60617
62rebel Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 i owned a 1:1 '59 and i would love to do a replica of it, there are some resin kits out there i THINK are based on the AMT/SMP annuals. if so, they probably have pretty good detail and are simple to assemble. I've not had the opportunity to get one yet, and i'd love to see examples of what's available. i have the Revell Skyliner and the body builds up nicely but the real car is so badly proportioned due to that folding roof.... it sits 90% finished in the box still.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I see the Revell kit,, is it a multi piece body .? Yes, it is a multi-piece body, and it's one of the more popular kits to complain about. With some care and patience, it can build up into a beautiful model. The hinged panels take some extra time to fit properly, as does the multi-piece body, but great looking models are possible from it. Here's one...NOT MINE...but do a Google image search for "Revell '59 Ford" to see more.
Art Anderson Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Incidently, the rear of each of the three years of Skyliners, from the B-post on back is proportioned quite differently from say, the Sunliner convertible (conventional fabric over bows convertible top) and the Fairlane 500 (for '59 the Galaxie) hardtop--all for the reason you mentioned, in real life, that folding steel hardtop took a lot of room out back for stowage. gtx6970 Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Appreciate all the feedback. Art, no offense ,,,,, But from what I've seen so far shopping / watching sale prices I can get a decent builder in the same price as a fresh resin kit.. And my original intention since I came up with this idea is to someday to have one of every mass produced kit on the shelf of the 1959 stryene kits. So there for resin will not work . I am not against using resin parts to repair said kits though. I have my eye on a couple kits on ebay now. But the toy fund will determine how rapidly this project procedes ,, so it's going to be a slow moving project as funds allow I know it's out of my year range,,,,,, but I thought it just looked cool and I made a last second attempt for it . But,,, I just won a builtup of a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville convertible last night . I thought it would look neat next to my 58 Imperial conv. Now,,if I can just get a decent deal on 58 Buick convertible http://www.ebay.com/itm/1958-Pontiac-Bonneville-convertible-kit-original-AMT-great-condition-/151549405095?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=6tZm7g2o%252FYQHQtAGZksPTbCJIRE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Edited January 19, 2015 by gtx6970
