This is my in progress Carlton Dodge Colt, Is a rework of my previus attempt to do the gold pro stock Carlton RodvShop Colt, this time around I rework to a better looking roof line and "C" pillars, still working on the front wheel arches but the body mods make it look much better this time around in my personal view and opinion.

I was hoping to have this cast in resin, did have an agreament with a caster....but because my fault and lack of time from my part at the workbench, is probably that the interested caster have lost interest or is willing to do this now.

Anyway, I will finish the body mods in a week or so, paint it in its distintive gold paint,Nationwise, rod shop decals and call this done...for a second time...but this time I am happy with the end result/body profile.

hey Fred, more pictures please. I am a colt fanatic!! loved that rod shop car. they were very squirrelly rides, I know that. most racers dumped them after not even a year.

back when I got out of school in the late 70's, I had bought a colt to do a pro street car with, due to things, it never got built.

I would be in for a few if they ever got casted.

I have such mixed feelings about the white Rod Shop Colt. I had about a half hour conversation with Don at the Sportsnationals that year. NHRA booted his entry because he didn't have enough division points. He showed me a lot of the features of the car.

Then that summer........

I don't know if I'd want a model of the white car in celebration of that May day or not....

Having said that, I'd love to have a good resin car for a Sox and Martin or Billy the Kid car.

Here it is almost finished, it still needs some final imperfections fixing and final wet sanding to see if everything looks OK, then is going to the resin caster, Ron Andrew, He have been very kind and patient with me in waiting a long time for me to finish this rework of my initial 1976 Don Carlton Gold Nationwise/Rod Shop Colt, now I am happy with the final look and profile of the scale model, the several key areas that where redone give it a more correct apperance, in my very personal opinion of course.

Great project what chassic did you use

John,

Its a combination of several parts, the front part is a modified Roadrunner unit, to acomodate the Hemi engine, styrene tubing and other bits and parts where added to this area to finish the look, the middle part/interior tub came from the MPC Mustang II "Firefighter" kit, also modified with evergreen styre strips as the chassis rail representation/detail, the back wheel area came from the AMT Super-Bee pro street chassis, cut and added to the middle "tub/interior" mustang piece, then cut and sanded to fit the body of the Colt.

Are you getting the chassis and the body both and I know for sure if Ron does it they will be nice I have a bunch of his resins and he is a good friend of mine so I know I will be getting one also and yes it does look great nice work.

Yeah, I second the idea of a resin Colt. They made mean and nasty little Pro Stocks and I would love to have one in my "collection". I look forward to seeing this one finished.

I had a '76 Colt GT back when it was new for a few years. It was an inline four, but I'm pretty sure it had a cross-flow head with hemispherical combustion chambers. What a pi$$er to drive; I beat the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH out of that car. Hey, I was 21 :D !
