triplelindy Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 This started out s a 2wd Maisto 57 Suburban. I swapped it onto a M2 1959 GMC 4x4 chassis. Tires, wheels and rear trailer hitch from Scenes unlimited.Semi detailed the interior. I also stripped the chrome going for the base stripper look.
jeffs396 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) Looks GREAT Mike! Nice mods... Edited January 25, 2015 by jeffs396
triplelindy Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for the comments. Have recently been noticing the some of the different bodies availible in 1/24 from some of these cheaper brands. They have a lot of potential.
Tom Geiger Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Nice job on that. It doesn't matter that it started as a diecast, as soon as you modify it, it's a model. Here's mine:
triplelindy Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Very nice . Which one did that one start out as? Was that trim on the front fender?
Tom Geiger Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Very nice . Which one did that one start out as? Was that trim on the front fender? Yes. This was a black diecast and the paint was good enough (as well as not wanting to lose the tampo trim) I disassembled it and stripped / painted the white body panels. Sheriff decals were out of the Johan '59 Rambler kit. I did add the missing hood bumps by carving toothpicks. Edited January 27, 2015 by Tom Geiger
AzTom Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 What scale are these. I was not even aware that Maisto even made a 57 Suburban. I usually shy away from Maisto as few are actually 1/25 - 1/24.
Longbox55 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 The Maisto Suburbans are 1/24. They also have a somewhat inaccurate Panel based on the same tool.
Tom Geiger Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 There are some inaccuracies... I tried to line up an AMT '57 Chevy hood and the whole shape of the cowl mount and such was different. That's why I eventually just added my incorrect hood bumps made from toothpicks. Fooled near everyone to date.
AzTom Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Tom, the bumps look great.. Are you guys sure these are Maisto ..... all I could find was Jada. Ertl made a 1/25 but it does not have any opening parts.
Tom Geiger Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Just looked... mine is a Jada. Here's how the hood bumps were created..
Longbox55 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) I have to correct myself, the Suburbans and Panels are Jada, not Maisto. I should have know better on that, too, as I have about a half dozen or so of them. Edited February 23, 2015 by Longbox55
