vancouver71 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Hi guys, I know there is a lots of techniques and products out there and tutorials,etc... But at the end, which one would give the best finish for a rat rod? Salt technique, hairspray, wearhering, sophisticated finishes??? I bought the paint Testors Rust, but it won't be enough to make it realistic I guess. I am kinda lost. Thank you
Jantrix Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Try using a little of the rust paint and adding some talcum. I have been using talcum and acrylic craft paints for some time.
Longbox55 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Do you have an airbrush? If so, try spraying the Testors rust a little on the dry side, then a mist coat of flat black to add some depth. I've done that in the past, turns out very nasty, in a good sense.
jacoballardtattoo Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I'm new to all of it but I recently did some rust on the undercarriage and found for me using acrylic and a sponge to apply it work very well.
jacoballardtattoo Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 This is the video I got from here that helped me out. Maybe it can help you too. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWmDDhf1nNnxvW9Jh_uNc9PkIUZm167M6
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 There are so many youtube videos of various techniques, why not just watch some of them, pick a look YOU like and think looks realistic, and follow the video instructions??

This. Plus, after you review all of them you can pick and choose some methods and mix them with others, or leave stuff out. I use the rubber cement method but without the salt. Although I plan to do it that way eventually. I also havent even used my dremel yet to make rusty holes... havent dared to try that yet. Soon...
