kilrathy10 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 That is a great looking chassis....And it does give me an idea for another project.....Never thought of it until I saw this.....
landman Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Thank you all. I have to decide whether the inside of the body will be the same as the outside. I think the floor will be aluminum.
Tesla Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Nice work on the exhaust system. I like Clayton's choice Good luck with the painting.
landman Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) About the painting, took out the test Trans Am and shot the driver's side with the rattle can, And the passenger side with the airbrush. It came out heavy. Lowered the pressure and cut back on the fluid and shot the actual model. It'll have to do. Edited January 12, 2021 by landman
Mopar - D Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Looks good Pat it will look real nice with the hauler on the back.
landman Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Back to the exhaust: I was planning to use straws for the outlet pipes. They scale out at5". That is pretty big for a gas engine isn't it?
Petetrucker07 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Yeah, just a bit. 3 to 3 1/2 would be just right.
guitarsam326 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Yes, that's pretty big for a gasser that isn't built to the gills, about 2-3 inches is where you wanna be.
landman Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) The tanks are dechromed and puttied up. I can now 1.try my hand at Alclad or 2. Paint them body colour with BMF banding. BMF'd the headlight buckets, installed the lenses and gave a bit of a wash to the rad louvers. Interior is pretty well ready. I might redo the steering wheel. I'm trying to decide whether just leaving those dips alone or filling them in. I'm also contemplating lowering those ramps to floor level but I'm worried the spot indicated by the arrow may end up high centering some cars. Put away for now. Edited January 12, 2021 by landman
Mopar - D Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Pat here's mine with the slots filled and ramps lowered and a couple different types of cars. There's plenty of clearence with them.
kilrathy10 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Whatever you decide, it's gonna look good.....
landman Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Glad you think so J.T. I certainly hope so too.
tbill Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 coming along good, and I feel your pain with the fuel tanks.......longest part of a build for me it seems, smoothing the darn tanks....
landman Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 (edited) The body is still curing so I played with the deck instead. Performed a total rampectomy, replaced them with some tread plate, did the Dan Slade test. He's right, plenty of clearance. Edited January 14, 2021 by landman
Mopar - D Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Pat yor paint looks great and I think that you will be glad you removed the dips.
landman Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) Finished installing the decking. Added 1/16 square rod to the topside to continue the"curbs". Also epoxied the hood panels to the hinges. Gave the tanks their gloss black. Started looking at an alternative to the upright air cleaner. Will need the cab in place to finalize. As the weather is warming up and snow is going, I will take my granddaughter out for what may be the last snowshoe outing of the season. Â Â Edited January 14, 2021 by landman
landman Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) Â Here's the air filter photo that somehow fell through the cracks. Edited January 14, 2021 by landman
landman Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) Modified the Cat's air filter duct and adapted it to the 534's air filter. Made a bracket to mount it to the frame. If it was oil bath before, it is dry element now. Turns out those hinges won't work without beveling the edge of the hood panels. So I took them out and will glue tabs to support the inside edge of the hoods. Painted the rubber trim around the windows. This is where I'm at with the exhaust outlets. I might bevel the pipes. Mopar - D Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Coming along good Pat looking forward to seeing more progress.
landman Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) So it will be side exhaust. One last question: Should I leave the tips extended like that or should I cut them closer to the body? Edited January 14, 2021 by landman
