Model Car Garage PE 701/2 Baldwin Camaro Dash

I just started to build the AMT Baldwin Motion Camaro and have the MCG PE set for the car. The instructions are not clear on how to install the dash top. I came here and found some info on how to do it. Here are some pics on how I installed the dash top. I used the PE part as a template to cut the kit part, thinned the kit part to create the line for the pad then CA'd a small shelf to glue the PE part onto. It helped to roll a crown into the PE part that matched the dash before glueing the part with E6000 adhesive, I found this was more forgiving than CA.

Properly painted and fitted, the MCG '70 Camaro Dash photoetch loooks great. I used it in conjuction with the '70 Camaro Trans kit from SEL, which included a resin dashboard set up fo the photoetch parts.

From reading the threads on here from people building this kit, I understand that there's an interference issue with the dash and windshield,

I'm now wondering how this will affect that issue?

Well I used the photo etched dash top on my BM camaro and it did interfear the first time. I originally cut the kit dash top using the photo etched piece as a templete. I ended up taking it back apart and triming another 16th of an inch off the original dash to make up for the clearence needed for the front glass to fit. If I ever build another one of these kits and use the photo etched dash top, I will remember to allow for that right from the start.

I used the E6000 glue just in case I had to adjust the position. The E6000 stays abit soft, unlike using CA.

I designed this set for MCG and I'm sorry you have had some trouble with it. It appears you have butted the Photoetch piece to the edge of the dash instead of attaching it UNDER the dash. The speaker grille needs to be much closer to the dash pad for it to fit as the unmodified kit piece.

From the instructions:

"Included in this package are several pieces to enhance the dash supplied in the AMT kit. The top of the dash of the real car is metal with a crash pad on top of it. The area on the top of the dash that is not the crash pad needs to be replaced with part no.26. The dash has a very faint line of demarcation that is a good guide of where to cut to add the metal top. Part no. 26 is designed to be glued UNDER the dash so that a lip is left as the edge of the crash pad."

I've included the illustration that shows where to approximately cut the dashboard and a photo of the real car that sort of shows how this works (hard to find a shot of the dash through the windshield).

Also, this piece works well in the 1st gen Camaros as well. I used it in my build of this '69 Camaro and it greatly improved the detail seen through the windshield.
