Hi Scott,

Very IMPRESSIVE start to your soldering career. Those tie rod parts are very hard to do and you did them in 1/32 scale!!

Look forward to more on this little and want to see you come back to the 1/20 scale one soon :)

Randy

Thanks a lot Randy

I figured this 1/32 needed some love and was not a big loss if I destroyed it

I am really impressed with how strong the brass joints can be with the silver solder

Yes the tie rod ends were fun...a good challenge on setting up a stable support for the pieces

Have had some thoughts of remaking the whole thing, ALL in brass...then I sat down and let those thoughts go away

Hi Scott,

What did you think of the 1/20 Revival kit? Looks like pre-painted body parts? Are they plastic or pot metal? Inquiring minds need some info :)

I have played with the parts a couple times, got two slice cuts from the plastic cover and shoved it back into the stash pile

It is a white metal kit, kind of a mini Pocher really with metal parts, screws and such. Yes the body parts are prepainted a French Blue. It will build up pretty nice OOB and better with some slight mods :)

It is a bit pricey, but very different from the norm of kits

Bob S did an awesome Revival Alfa in this thread

Practicing silver soldering continued....making a Bugatti front cowling and attached firewall

More pinpoint flux application with syringe. Solder goes to heat and sticks where the flux has 'etched' the metal of it's oxide layers.

So more precise flux should mean a cleaner joint and less clean up...in theory

image.jpg4_6.jpg

Metal base with magnets and a heavy bending tool to hold everything stable.

That is important for me as I can't seem to hold parts, flame and add the solder at the same time...just not co-ordinated enough

Here I could just fire in the torch from the front and watch for the solder to shine, puddle and flow

image.jpg3_7.jpg

Firewall soldered to the formed cowling, sanded and blended joint

image.jpg6.jpg

Took a couple tries to get the entire seam covered, but it did

Still not an easy process, but much better when my parts fit together and are stable

Hi Scott,

The cowling looks fantastic!!! Like the flux appilcator :):)

Randy

Thanks Randy,

I was going to send you pictures of all this, but that is like showing Michelangelo pictures I drew in kindergarten!!!

Will keep plugging away at it; I failed miserably a couple weeks ago at this very part, so nice to see some time and brainstorming made it work

Nice!! It looks like the exact same kit just re-boxed for Matchbox

No worries for showing it. Fire up a pic when you get it done

I have the Aston Martin English cousin of those Bugattis coming my way in the mail

Thank you Dan and Stephan

Just challenging myself to see if I can make something....kind of a learn as I go

Stupidity is another word

Just a note to say that the holes in the frame rails aren't see-through.

Good morning Mr Jordan

Ok, will do.....Those little trephines I made are barely a mm at their deepest, would weaken the frame rails too much any more

My friend Randy showed me how much he tries to get the brass cut, drilled and shaped in the flat stage when you can handle it easier.

So I need to map out a few more details before I start bending and soldering

Cheers

Avidly watching the very usual approach to this kit.

Usual or unusual.......I prefer to be called unusual thank you very much :) Edited by Twokidsnosleep

Rear frame extensions soldered.

In the pic the top rail was little chips of solder and the bottom rail I added solder from the whole wire.

A ton more finishing for the lower blob

image.jpg1_15.jpg

Sanded to square, not final polish as more drilling for cross members.

I am done for now, going outside for some sun and yard work

Scott,

Way to go by challenging yourself with advanced techniques. Keep up the patience and it pays dividends. Your work is improving each step as you go along.

Great prep for your coming Pochers. Soldering is a big part of advanced work on them. Can't wait to see.

Thanks, that is exactly what I am doing....practice

I have another build on the side so switch to this in between
