hemihauler11 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I picked this one up about 6 months ago. I knew I had to have it when I saw it. When I opened it up It wasn't the quality I was looking for but worth building. So I began....
hemihauler11 Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 I wired and plumbed the motor replaced factory carb with Holley replica I had stashed and turned chrome intake into aluminum by clearing over it. The wheels I taped off rings and painted centers aluminum to give them that real look. Feel free to criticize this is my first model since joining the site.
1972coronet Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 That subsized 'generic' MoPar LA engine looks nice ! Heck , you even painted the exhaust manifolds engine colour , just as the factory did ! May I suggest a dark (black or cast iron grey) wash for the alternator ? That would really make it stand out nicer . This kit's origins date back to 1971 , when it was released as a 1971 Duster 340 'annual' by MPC . In mid-1971 , the kit was retooled to represent a 1971 Demon 340 . Here's the breakdown on this kit's history (which would also expalin its simplified casting and other incorrect-for-the-year-represented qualities ) : - 1971 Duster 340 - 1971 Demon 340 (mid-year) - 1972 Duster 340 - 1973 Duster 340 (the first year for the Pro Stock-style Hemi option , and the first year for custom wheels) - 1974 Duster 360 - 1975 Duster 360 - 1975 Dart Sport 360 - 1976 Dart Sport with 360 But , I divulge ... Keep up the nice work !
chadrob30 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Looking good. I just bought this too. It will be a weekend racer that looks like it's in the middle of being rebuilt. Different colored fenders, mismatched interior, etc....
hemihauler11 Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Nice that's kinda what I'm going after with this build buy more of a sleeper with stock wheels but with traction bars and thanks for the advice
Bob Ellis Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 It should be noted this kit was made to be sold as a promo, where it got it's simplified design.
hemihauler11 Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Now that you mention it Bob I actually have 2 of the original promotioals that my dad found at a yard sale This is one the other is a light sunflower yellow.
Jantrix Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Nice that's kinda what I'm going after with this build buy more of a sleeper with stock wheels but with traction bars and thanks for the advice What a coincidence then that this years Cannonball CBP theme is "sleepers". Just sayin'.
hemihauler11 Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Hope I dont sound dumb Rob I am new here but what is The Cannonball (besides a great movie)?
Jantrix Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) Hope I dont sound dumb Rob I am new here but what is The Cannonball (besides a great movie)? Not a bit. We have a section on this forum for Community Build Projects (CBP) where people join to build cars together with a similar theme. I'm involved with one based on the Cannonball Run, where we all build something we'd like to race cross country in. Each year there is a secondary theme, and this year it's "sleepers". All you have to do is post up a picture of your starting kit or pile-o-parts and get to work. As long as you aren't too far along on this build (more than 25-30%) you'd be welcome to join. Check it out. It runs all year. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96893 Edited February 23, 2015 by Jantrix
