aurfalien Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Hi, Curious why no one, seemingly anyways, has made a 1/24 Ferrari flat 12 engine? Seems like such a beautiful looking motor. I suppose the answer would be "Where does one put it?". Is Fisher Model & Pattern the only ones making the awesome 312P? That would be a good candidate. Thoughts any one?
LDO Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Tamiya's Testarossa has had one for 20+ years. Revell/Monogram also have one, but the Tamiya looks better. Where to put one? A model of Bob Norwood's 288 GTO drag car, of course. It had a flat-12 up front, making crazy horsepower. It was fed by a massive centrifugal supercharger which was really a turbocharger with the exhaust inlet side cut off and converted to chain drive. Crazy car.
aurfalien Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Hey, Well I looked at the Tamiya Testarossa. You're right and I should have been less vague about my post. Sorry about that. I mean the flat 12 from 60's era with all those intake stacks etc... Thats one fine looking engine. My complete question would have been why no one makes a resin version of the 60's era flat 12. Man I was half asleep earlier. Edited March 9, 2015 by aurfalien
LDO Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Oh OK. Is there a 1/12 engine that you could use as a pattern?
afx Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 MFH produced the 312PB in 1/24 scale. It's painfully expensive but from the built versions I have seen it is a beautiful kit.
aurfalien Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Yes, those MFH kits are perfect, pricy but I think its warranted seeing just how much detail you have. And the instructions are excellent. I've there P68 on the shelf waiting for when I am a more experienced modeler. Man what a kit! It would be cool if they sold parts as an option.
aurfalien Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 Hi, Just an update to this thread, The Fisher 312P took the V12 and not boxer, which the HRM 330P4 engine/tranny will work just fine with. So we have a solution to an engine kit for what seems like the only 1/24 scale 312P kit around. Pretty excited about this.
sfhess Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 312P was a 3-liter v12 that was also used in Formula 1 cars. 330P4 was 4-liter and may have external differences from the 3-liter.It would take a lot of work to install a detailed engine in the Fisher 312P kit as the casting is quite thick and there is no chassis detail to speak of. I have one of these, it's a beautiful replica of a beautiful car, but to me it's destined to be a curbside model.
aurfalien Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 Yes, you are right. I spoke to Paul Fisher about it and he agreed with the V12. You're also right about the difficulty in fitting an engine but the 330P4 HRM engine kit sure would look nice in it
