fseva Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) I'm working on this kit right now... Edited March 12, 2015 by fseva
fseva Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) Here are the tires and wheels I'll be using (the wheels are original equipment; the tires are not)... The tire lettering is decals by Powerslide. Edited March 12, 2015 by fseva
fseva Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Here is the engine compartment from the rear...
Scalper Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Wheels look very nice. Wish I had decals for mine.
fseva Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) Wheels look very nice. Wish I had decals for mine. You can buy them at Mike's Decals - http://www.mikesdecals.com/ By the way, I have assembled the body to the chassis, and although the "bigs" fit fine, they just look too big for this car - they rub the top of the fenders. fseva Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 I had to put this project on hold - broke the driver's side A pillar during assembly. I had no success in repairing it, and I've got my replacement now. The body is painted - waiting for glass.
fseva Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) Here are some photos of the reworked areas of this car: engine (rebuilt), new connection to headers, new rear suspension. The underside is all metalizers. Engine color changed to GM Engine Blue. Transmission is Vallejo Silver hand-brushed after installation (very poor durability during handling). Snake45 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 So you're going for a modified, '70s or later look, then?
fseva Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) So you're going for a modified, '70s or later look, then? Huh? I'm building the kit as a '69... what made you think otherwise? Oh... I see... I used the word "reworked", but in this case it only means that while I'm in the process of painting and finishing a new body, I decided to make a new engine, to go with the chassis I had already finished. Does that sound more logical? Edited March 26, 2015 by fseva

I used the word "reworked", but in this case it only means that while I'm in the process of painting and finishing a new body, I decided to make a new engine, to go with the chassis I had already finished. Does that sound more logical? I thought you were going for a '70s look because of the new engine color, which dates to the mid to late '70s (I forget the exact year). A stock '69 Z would have had an engine painted Chevy Engine Red (red-orange).

OK - I see now; yes, the instructions did say Chevy Engine Red, and if you notice the early photos do show that it was that color. I never even thought that they might not be interchangeable.
slusher Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Looks good. Half the time the instructions is wrong and you half to rely on research...

If I was that concerned about replicating prototypes - I just like what I like, whether it's accurate or not. After all, that's what "customizing" is all about! Right?
