moonlite5hadow
Ok, since the engine for this camaro is sitting in my drag strip supra, i had to use one of revell's engine parts packs. you know, the ALL CHROME engines anyways, the engine is built. almost this is revell's 79 camaro Z28 3n'1 and revell's 427 from their parts pack kit. the idea for this car is to be the ultimate drag strip sleeper. totally stock exterior and interior minus the big ol' meats in the rear. under the hood will be a twin turbocharged Ford 427cid motor motor is in stock form from the pats pack, but im in the process of making the headers, and planning the turbo locations, intercooler locations, and charge piping between it all. I customize the intake are of the motor, as it would not fit uner the hood with the carbs, so imagine this as a fuel injected conversion as well. used the parts back air filter thing and custom fabbed the intake for the boosted and cooled air. still working on the stance... im not sure if i want the rear wheels tucked in a little, of if i want the tail in the air. i love the look of a lowerd muscle car (but NOT with huge rims, nothing more tha 16's in 1:1). the point of this car is to use it to take the kids and wifey to church, after running it at the track the day before. moonlite5hadow
UPDATE 06/08/09 Finished the intercooler and charge piping. its twin front-mount intercoolers attatched to look like a single front-mount. these do exist! i also realized i suck terribly at making my own headers, so i headed to my local plastic junkyard and fictionalized some that i found. its not perfectly symmetrical, but thats fine. as far as i know, giant TT 427's dont exist, and seeing as this would be representing a garage built car from scratch, i dont want it to be perfect. (thats just an excuse to cover for my lack of patience and attention to detail!)
Chuck Most
I love this one, man! As a Ford guy, I'm beyond sick of seeing Chebby-powered Fords (and Mopars). I don't think a single one of my Chev models has a Chev engine in it!

diymirage
the intake reminds me of the optional ram air on the 4-4-2 cars looking pretty sweet you should see if you can part with one of two of those 12 extra snails you got to up the ante on my driftcar

moonlite5hadow
got the exhaust done. diameter is upped due to the higher performance engine. full exhaust, from the turbo to the tips, only used the tiny stock mufflers. 1/8" OD solder for the piping, and 1/8" ID aluminun tube for the tips. also cut off the horizontal bar across the front bumper. just increased airflow through the engine bay because two huge turbos make a lot of heat, and the intercoolers block about 80% of the radiator. Dennis Lacy
I have to admit I rarely look at threads about '60s and '70s cars cuz I'm not really into them, but was drawn in by the title. THIS is an AWESOME project. The engine and turbo set-up is very convincing. I know that those intercoolers exist because I've held one in my hand. The exhaust system came out great. The tails are positioned just right. I also think you should leave the rear wheels/tires tucked like they are, it's a little more discrete which goes with your low-key, home-built theme. Can't wait to see more! Edited June 14, 2009 by Dennis Lacy

moonlite5hadow
thanks for all the positive responces guys! i figured i'd get more flak from our GM friends, but i guess they dont even come in to look! lol. as for paint, im not too sure. the only idea i have is Yellow. for some reason, i cant picture this body style camaro in any other color. but, in keeping with the garage built/under cover theme im going for, i might go with just a blotchy grey primer with brush-painted black stripes on top or on the sides. not entirely sure. whale392
Chevy powered Fords are way overdone.......especially when a Ford Engine would have fit where the Chevy sits. Good to see some Chevy lover getting hot under the collar (maybe now you'll know how the Ford boys feel). Personally, I grew up Mopar and got no love from any autophile. Apparently, the only word from Mopar that means anything is 'Hemi'........Mopar had a lot more than just that engine going for it. But alas, back to the subject at hand.....................................cool build man, I have always liked the FE series engine and twin-turboing it only makes it better. Car is coming along great!
Rudy
Ahhh nice to see the chevy boys cry. I love this project. I have seen and worked on twin turbo 427's, so they do exist. I am sick and tired of seeing chevy LS1 powered mustangs lately, although they do run pretty ###### good at the strip. I like anything that runs good tho. I will admit tho that if I see 1 more Small block chevy powered model A or 32 ford oradster, I will vomit profusely............... You may want to check out David Frieburger's 1:1 project F-bomb turbo camaro for ideas...... It is awesome. You will find pics of it at www.Hotrod.com Keep up the good work. What did you use to make the turbos? Wire, solder? Rudy
Foxer
I couldn't care less, Ford, Chevy or Mopar ... I've had at least one of each and nevermore for any of the three. But. that engine.. WoW. That turbo setup looks menacing and fantastic! Edited June 24, 2009 by Foxer
moonlite5hadow
Rudy: for the turbos i used ~1/8" diameter solder wrapped around a short piece of 7/32 aluminum tubing with small ring of 1.5mm solder between the exhaust and compressor sides of the turbo. all the piping was the same 1/8" solder.
