Ron Hamilton
John, I am impressed with the work you are doing with this one. I am too a "Barracuda Lover". When I was a kid, a friend of mine got a very nice present from his dad, a '67 Barracuda Fastback in red, with a black interior, 273 Power Pack, and Torqueflite. His dad was into racing, and made a deal with his son. When the temporary tags went dead (20 days), the car would be turned into a race car. The day after they brought it home from the dealer, it received a set of Hooker Fenderwell headers, a Mallory "Rev Pol" ignition system, a set of cheater slicks, and tow tabs welded to the fenders. The car was pretty successful at Aquasco Raceway in MD, as it was very consistant in the brackets. I thought that car was so cool. I have a couple of Barracuda projects for the future, none of which is nearly as nice as your project. I have a couple of '65's to rebuild, and this '68 which is actually a '69. I had a really ratty built-up '68 glue-bomb, that was unsalvageable. The project started when I bought a Perry's Resin '68 Barracuda Transkit. It was obviously incomplete, so over the years I gathered the parts to make it work. I cut that '68 7-ways to Sunday, and swapped in the '68 pieces to the '69, even going as far as shaving the emblems off, and installing the front and rear clips from the '68 into the '69. I have a set of Keith Marks' decals for it, and with the exception of the wheel covers, this is what I am going for. I have some Turbine Bronze paint, and a set of '68 specific interior piecs for it.. Your car looks great, and will put my little project to shame. I have to step up my game just to keep up with you. FASTBACK340
Wow… First Mr. Geary and now Mr. Hamilton. Thank you for the compliments guys! As mentioned, one of my favorite cars i'm trying to do a better than average job on. Those grilles were the bane, but now I'm just waiting to paint the body. When I do the full-detail version in the future, i know what NOT to do from this build. And it has been fun! At the moment it's 9 degrees outside. I doubt I'll be painting today….. As for your project, let me know if there's any `68-specific parts you need. I have a few parts-bombs. And as for your color choice, Turbine bronze was the rarest color in `68. Followed only by my color, Surf Turquoise Metallic, which was a one-year only color. Good luck on your project Ron, and thanks again for the kind words! FASTBACK340
OK…. probably the final up-date before it's painted. The interior is done and a very close reproduction of my car. I still have to add the Halon Fire Extinguisher to the trans tunnel. Looking at it mocked-together in the car it's going to be fine. The entire interior is black so it's not too bright inside…. Here's the shot I love….. That's my car! I can't wait to squirt this sucker In the meanwhile, there's a Pink Hemi Cuda on my mind.
Custom Mike
John, I love what you're doing with the grille on this one, i'm currently working on a '69 and that grille is the worst part of the whole build...well, maybe the chassis, but I still hate the grille!! I stripped mine, replaced the molded in headlights, and repainted it, but I should have gone the way you did. I'm waiting to see yours in paint, I love the color you've got picked out for it! The passenger side headlight has been removed and re-glued since this pic....
FASTBACK340
Nice `69! Love the paint too! What have you got planned for it? Those head lights look good, but they are still undersized. That's one of the reasons why I rebuilt mine. Plus the shells are so thick! Re-doing the grilles was the only stipulation on doing the build as I hate the kit piece. Tomorrow we paint, so there are some updates coming. BTW: I had those same polished Centerlines on my Barracuda like the ones on your model. I like the steelies w/ caps better. BTW: Just wanted to add the color is going to be the original factory color. LL1 Surf Turquoise Metallic. One year only color, second rarest color in `68 (Turbine Bronze is the rarest…) Edited January 5, 2014 by FASTBACK340
DrKerry
Congrats on the weight lose!!! I need to go down that road myself. I'm not to much over but I need to lose some. Oh by the way, kool Mopars too!!!
Custom Mike
John, I just grabbed the first set of headlights I had available (From AMT's '71 Charger) and used those. As far as plans for it, I basically built it box-stock except for the nail polish paint, swapping the rims and tires, and wiring that dog of an engine, not much else, It was a slump buster, but the hood is kicking my butt, it doesn't want to be painted! MrObsessive
I'll get back to you on that…. I have that kit on my bench right now. I'll test-fit it tomorrow night. And as for the weight loss, congratulations Bill! It took me about 10 years to properly lose around 150 lbs. without going to extremes. It didn't go on overnight, it wasn't coming off overnight either. Re-programming the way you eat is the ONLY way to lose weight. Just a few weeks before being hospitalized back in the mid-90's…. 340Lbs-vi.jpg Me today. I definitely feel 20 yrs. younger! 1236225_625709450807416_477556377_n.jpg John, I remember that you WERE a big boy! You look really great now! Your 'Cuda build has the wheels turning in my mind after seeing what you and Ron are doing. It won't be the next build, but maybe sometime in the near future?? Ron's build looks neat with those mag hubcaps. Yours with the steelies and poverty hubcaps looks much more sinister now! BTW, not to further hijack your thread, I made a new post in the Off Topic Lounge about my weight loss.........yes, it is a battle, but one that's worth fighting diligently. FASTBACK340
Im happy to hear my meager attempt is inspiring people I've admired. Can't wait to see what Bill & Ron do with they're project Barracudas! Today is shopping day. Food shopping… Pet store visit….. and hobby shop. Barracuda get's primed this afternoon and, hopefully…. some color. The weather is semi-cooperating.
FASTBACK340
OK….Tamiya Surfacer primer applied. Rough spots identified. Off to the workbench. Updates hopefully later….. I used Mr. Cruz' panel line tutorial and I must say, in primer it looks great! There's a few sins I have to address. Fortunately these are easy fixes But some areas are perfect….. A little clean-up and (hopefully….) color I'm so into seeing this done!
FASTBACK340
The day I've been waiting for: COLOR! These are the first 2 base coats. I'm planning on a few more coats, the last being the heavy one. I'll let it gas-out and hopefully we'll have clear on it soon.
FASTBACK340
Just realized it took exactly a month to get color on a "quick build"…..
FASTBACK340
Final color coats are done. First two pictures it looks too Blue, and in the third too Green. My 1:1 photographs the same way as it rarely looks correct in pictures. The MCW shade is so close to my car's paint that I used it on my air cleaner lid. It looks real nice in person on the model! Needs to be cleared and assembled. I can't wait!
FASTBACK340
I'm calling this paint job done. It's been painted and cleared. For a "Quick-Build" it looks good! After being stalled for over a week due to nasty weather, I finally got it painted. Truth be told, I finally set-up my spray booth (I bought it when I was at Toledo in `01…..) in my cozy little warm room instead of painting in the chilly basement. It's not going to stay where it is now, but it's in there & functioning. This is a HUGE plus as it's always nice & toasty in that tiny little shoebox called my hobby room. I can paint year-round now. Maybe Monday night I'll rub it out and apply those beautiful Keith Marks `68 Barracuda emblems, scripts, and badges on and get it foiled. Cut the glass, stuff it together …. done real soon! Thanks for following along. This will probably sit for a day or two. Time to continue with the `70 Cuda…..

FASTBACK340
Your "quick" project is coming along nicely. : ) Now you know why I didn't want to do a full detail….. I'll have to put aside a year for that!
FASTBACK340
Thanks for the compliments guys. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either!
Custom Mike
Beautiful work on the paint John, I want to see the Keith marks decals on it too, I love his stuff!
FASTBACK340
Thanks Mike! It's MCW Bright Turquoise (Chrysler code LL1, my car's color) w/ Model Master Clear. There's some sins…. but it's a quickie-build (HA!) I'm sooooo anxious to put it together. I know it's going to be a fun assembly. With the foiling and markings, not to mention the modified grilles and lenses, it should be a close replica. Patience…. I must show patience. FASTBACK340
Rick & Rich, thanks! It's been slow going the last few days, but I'm taking a break from round #1 of foiling. There's some THIN pieces to trim! But so far, so good…..
