RandyB.
Thought I would post this topic regarding the Modelhaus resin rear bumper that is available from Modelhaus to correct the grossly inaccurate bumper and tail light assembly that comes with the AMT 1969 Chevelle kit and most likely the newly released convertible of this kit as well. My good friend Fury3 had lead me to this bumper when I told him how I was dissatistified with the way the kit tail lights looked. Well I received the bumper and tail light assembly last week and I am very pleased at how it looked and it was well worth the 4 to 6 week waiting period to have it arrive at my address. It required a few little tweeks to even get it right but was an easy fix. The clear red lenses that come with the bumper were one piece and didn't have the chrome split between the top and the area below that houses the backup light. I used a piece of #101 Evergreen strip styrene and glued this separation between the top and bottom of the one piece lense. A small piece of BMF was then applied to the strip styrene. The next big thing, at least in my case, was dealing with the huge gap around the newly installed Modelhaus tail light bezels. The bezels that come with the kit are oversized and when the new bezels were glued in, which were smaller, left a large gap around both bezels left and right side. I used a small amount of 5 minute epoxy glue very carefully dabbing it into the gap. As it dried and sunk in I applied a little more until it was smooth and flush between the edge of the lense and and the body side. Once dried I touched the glue up with the body coloured paint in my case, Hugger Orange. You have to flow the paint on instead of brushing it so it will dry smooth with no brush streaks. I had to apply some high gloss clear in the same way since the Hugger Orange lacquer dried dull. Below is the before and after pics. Take a look and you be the judge which one looks more realistic. Bob Ellis
Looks great. And the '68 side moldings are removed with wheel lip chrome added.
rickcaps55
Hi all of the Modelhaus replacement parts for the AMT kits are the first run. Over the years for some reason AMT has taken some kits and filled in the tail lights I have replaced a lot of them this 69 you did is one the 65 Riviera is one and the 65 Ford Galaxie the 67 farlane has a two piece also and there is a couple of more it has come to the point I get the kit check out the bumper and lights and place an order with modelhause it does make it look so much better.
