BHarrison
I may get some flack for this one. A lack of available subject matter has led me to look for late model trucks in other media. I found this one at Hobbytown last month. Its a Norscot brand 2014 Silverado Crew Cab. The main body is die cast but the rest is plastic. I have already begun modifying it and have most of it in primer. It has been converted to two wheel drive and had the modifications made to mimic a "Body Dropped" air bagged truck on wheels that scale out to 26". I have modified the inner bed structure with bigger tubs to clear the wheels and highly modified the front bumper in the same way 1:1 2014's are when they sit this low...... Before..... Its way more like a promo than a die cast in many ways. Since there isn't a part on it that won't be modified, I didn't mind building a die cast. This is a ride height and wheels mockup right before I started finishing the bed and priming the body..... Its not a look that everybody likes but its the kind of stuff I work on and build in 1:1. Thanks for looking...more update pics later today.
BHarrison
Here is the bed after inner fender mods and a few coats of texture. The color matches the Brown I am painting the truck. Once it cures out it looks amazingly like a color matched Line-X which is common to do on these once the bed mods are made..... Here is a shot of the hood after rubbing it out. Its a Testors One Coat Lacquer color called "Root Beer" with 4 coats of their clear then polished to 12K.
Guest
I like that Bryan! It looks like it's well done. After seeing what Cliff and Larry Read can do with a die cast, I've changed my opinion on them. I'll have to look for one of those the next time I'm at HT. I have a '62 F-100 project that's bagged and body dropped. I kinda got burnt out on all of the scratch building on it. Maybe this project will give me the push I need. Chuck Most
Cool! I just finished doing the exact opposite with a Maisto 2010 F-150 STX, converting it to a base-model XL rather than making it fancier. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Tom Geiger
I may get some flack for this one. A lack of available subject matter has led me to look for late model trucks in other media. Won't get any flack from me. Your second sentence says it all. If a subject isn't available in plastic, and it is right in front of you in diecast, build on! You've made it a model. And when you think about it, it's pretty much gone full circle. Auto modeling's roots are taking apart promotional models to build models! Edited February 16, 2015 by Tom Geiger
