1932 ford woody , woodwork on the body started (real wood)

I'm a little unclear here. Are the wood panels all cut, shaped and ready to go on? Or is that still left to do?

no thats all still left to do , first i wanted everything painted and sure everything fits and is in place , i will complete everything like the engine and details , then keep the body loose and then make the wood on that , i will just need to messure and build up the wooden body piece by piece ..

its not like i have done it before , but now i'm glad i went about it this way , if i would have made the wood on the first it would be a lot of masking work .

also making whole pre made panels to put on isnt really doable , i made everything curved so i really have to glue on and fix it piece by piece so it really is fluch against the inner body (so to speak)

after dinner started to paint all the chrome , steady hand required

on all pics it seems to have two tones , like discoloration , thats actually due to the lights hitting it from the ceiling , irl its just all the same blue

did several front parts chrome

16778_233146990151552_1076576501_n.jpg

loosly dryfitted the wheels , tyres are from the kit and the rims i used from a 32 roadster kit , i really think they match the style and theme well

tyres stil need work like sanding and stuff , rims also will get some details

painted all the small dash details , hmmm those where tiny , i used a wooden pin with a point (meat pin) to do those

loose dryfit with the body

i'm thinking of doing some white on the seats

I see you had Von Dutch lay some stripes on your firewall and Deuce Grill shell! The one on the firewall is a piece he did in the '50's when he was sorta normal if you could call him that! Von Dutch titled it "Harvey, Shaken By Crossbreeding".

One interesting thing that he did with a lot of his stripes is that the layout would often be one contiuous stripe rather than a stripes added to one another to make up the layout. In the end Kenneth Howard AKA Von Dutch was one strange individual!

are you using Alclad for the chrome?

hey , no thats just a spray can silver , its well known in the modelbuilding scene in holland and a lot of people use it , its cheap , flows awsome and never runs , always a 100% great result .

alcad is maybe nicer but this is just so handy

the brand is gamma , thats a big diy store with stores all over the country (well you would not call holland a country lol)

the blue on the body and the clear is also from gamma .. all the paints just spray amazingly good

and the best thing is my wife works there so i always get 20% off (discount) :)

i used higher rocker covers with deuce casted in them..

the edges are red because i had to smooth them and they come from a red casted kit.

i will paint those edges with my chrome and leave the rest of the covers kit chrome

Looking great ..... can't wait to see some lumber.

well .......................... :)

the edges are round wood so when its all dry i will sand the edges flat with the other wood but on the inside it then will run nice and round

all the wood work is rough some parts i let stick out a bit so i can sand curves in it

the rear darker bar of wood sits loose because i first have to make a round piece of wood along the wheel well.

thats the hardest part i almost could bend some wood but every time i almost got the bend it broke , also making it wet didnt help.

so now i will add some strips together and cut it out round on the flat side , hope that will do the trick

spend some good hours today , filing , sanding , fitting wood

on this pic its still real rough , i masked the blue front body off with tchick alu heating tape and filed the wood alonf the front body in the same shape

531222_234355546697363_2001454683_n.jpg

on this pic you can see that the wood body is curved both horizontal and vertical

206468_234355530030698_1230815021_n.jpg

then started the first round of sanding , filing etc to get some more shape and make it less rough , needs loadsmore but now the shape is starting to show

418751_234355533364031_2000353251_n.jpg

from very thin wood witch i got by peeling the layers of the scale pallet i was able to make a panel on top behind the rear seats , thats already flattened now flush with the frame (not on this pic)

534293_234355606697357_1597163975_n.jpg

then i realised that same stuff could work around the wheel wells and it did , i was able to make the bend without breaking the wood , well at least in the end i broke like 3 peices before i got both wells covered

540971_234355600030691_144602011_n.jpg

then build up the wood work some more

293996_234355596697358_2132542424_n.jpg

dryfit , now underneith the door there will be a piece of wood later on and on the rear wide section i will let the horozotal bar run through with that same thin wood

this was the easyest way to do this , filling in all those shapes was pretty challenging

started some details on the engine , like belts , waterpump , alternator .... no braining how the peep i'm going to get cables in the distributer , i should not have glued that in so early :(

533661_234991256633792_701009684_n.jpg

540895_234991153300469_13747965_n.jpg

de rough wood work is done , now its a massive sand job and clearing the wood so it will come to life

483366_234991433300441_407694734_n.jpg

305_234991423300442_525570706_n.jpg

13610_234991389967112_2145221358_n.jpg

then i need to get some interiour stuff started like seats color etc .. then make some doorhandles , truk handle , tails and headlights ...

the wood had goty its first 3 layers of clear , started a two tone in the interiour , wanted to resemble a sort of metalflake apolstery in the middle

534179_235321039934147_1043430541_n.jpg

here you can see the round shapes i sanded in the wood

318077_235321069934144_2138463975_n.jpg

there is some discoloration but that will go away its from the firs layers of clear soking into the wood a bit

564512_235321036600814_261864711_n.jpg

also did the dash in metallic blue , tiny thing and luckely i was able to get it tight (the outer line) on the clear coat layer that was on there

532015_235321076600810_686455029_n.jpg

165081_235321086600809_1454951623_n.jpg

maybe i will do some of the dark blue on the doorpanels later , bit cramped now to paint there but maybe the armrests and the upper line under the wood will be possible to paint still

next time i def will keep the interiour loose and pre paint but because this was nessecery due to the wooden outer skin i wnet about it this way..

for me it was a first with real wood so i had to just try something

Looking good Rich!

I have built quite a few wood bodies in the past. Even have a thread here on MCM forums... but a lot of the photos are missing due to Fotki swapping servers. Something I am currently looking into and attempting to repair.

http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18990

Keep checking back and eventually they will probably all come back one way or another.

because unintentionally it kind of got the surf feel / beach feel along the way i decided to make a wooden bodyboard for the rod

a surfboard would be a bit big and well a boyboard is something different :)

a example from google i found > now there are loads of shapes and some pretty square , i took some styling dues from 2 different boards and wanted to keep it basic so it looks like a bodyboard instead of ending up with something that looks like a surfboard too small for the scale

Paipo_Higgins1-sm.jpg

i used the same wood as i did for the body and made smaller strips and glued dark and light wood together , let it stick ou (the dark wood) and flattened it

418048_235381859928065_989527425_n.jpg

553184_235381829928068_745494149_n.jpg

cut the basic shape

602921_235381849928066_1652797880_n.jpg

and gave it some mild curves

388313_235381893261395_1453501693_n.jpg

did that in a hour or so , now its clear coated and drying

shot them on a painters canvas outside

the previous posted pics where all shot in the evening , these all come out way better

the clear on the wood dryed up great , no more stains from soaking into the wood
