I needed a break from its intensity and this just fits the bill: a snap curbside. I love this car and I want one in 1:1. The stars just happened to be properly aligned and I just got my first Scalefinishes paint and I need an excuse to try them. So......... inspired in this let's see what happens I have already promised in our local forum that I WILL NOT CUT, OPEN, or MODIFY anything on the body or chassis of this car. They made me promise no engine either First coat of primer reveals a very straight body. This body is so far ahead of the AMT ######! The Revell curbside snapper beats the heck out of the glue AMT POS. The AMT concept Camaro made me hate AMT for the rest of my life, or at least in the foreseeable future. I thinned it a little bit more with PPG acrylic lacquer thinner because the temp in my workroom is easily approaching triple digits! (that's 100 F or 38C) This is only after a light and a medium coat. after it dries I'll check and do one more coat if needed, then allow it to dry for masking and eventual blue. If I get a chance, I'll clear it before Friday. If this were a Tamiya tape commercial I'd close appearing with a roll and say: Tamiya Tape: I can't live without it! Brett Barrow Posted September 9, 2008 Share Posted September 9, 2008 Cool! I immediatly thought of this scheme when I saw the retro-Sunoco article in SAE a few issues back. I'll do mine with raw metal side-pipes and unpolished five-spoke mags, I like that better than the yellow-painted ones. We had the Revell Make 'n Take event at the hobby shop I work in earlier this year, I got to help build several of these, what's there really does blow AMT's out of the water, the interior is beautiful and it even has brake discs, unheard of for a snap-kit. Just enlarge all the holes for the locator pins and it goes together well. Plus the metal axles are a couple millimeters too long(that or they don't go all the way into their holes). Ditto on the Tamiya tape comments, lots of folks get the full-on sales pitch from me! I think the Revell snap-kits make great paint-test subjects, the last model I finished was a '34 Ford I painted just to try out a particular Tamiya color combination - I needed to see it on something larger than a plastic spoon! I have on my “someday to build†list, one of these along with the original and the Mustang Trans Am along with an update to the 2006 Mustang. We’ll see, I have the kits set aside, just need the time. It fits so nice and tight there is no need to hold it with anything. Too bad it has to be painted. Why the upper bars go inwards? The roof is a tight fit and this is more of a quick build. I want to flood the car in a fire) riveted aluminum door panels (more alum foil) door pull straps (more on that later), Carbon fiber racing dash plate with racing computer and toggle switches. The seatbelts and the door pulls were made using the tape used for masking the yellow stripes Added Motorola radio / data logger transponder Photoetch seatbelt hardware pieces are leftovers from the blue Porsche Toggle switches are just painted wire. Bare metal parts are alum foil Carbon fiber dash panel is alum foil covered with leftover carbon fiber decals from the Cadillac project. What do you think?
