  1. I did them when I was really young. But I did them in a day and usually set them on fire or crashed them soon after. Lets not count that. I was playing golf professionally and living alone in Myrtle Beach. I knew no one and I was constantly bored. So I decided to do a model and I got a Tamiya F2001 Formula 1 car. I painted the whole thing with a brush and I thought it looked great. I had no idea that there were adults out there taking this hobby very seriously. I didn't know people were sanding seams, and priming parts, and airbrushing, etc etc. Or that there were websites devoted to all this. One model turned into 2 and 2 into a hundred. And a hundred into who knows. I always take my hobbies and loves way too far, and that's a good thing.
  2. I spent years as a rattle can only person. Now that I'm 95% airbrush, I'm sad at those years I missed out on. Airbrushing is now my favorite part of the hobby. But I do a lot of weathering stuff. Impossible to do pre-shading and post-shading and things like that with a can. I rarely do cars anymore because I hate doing anything with a gloss finish. I started as race cars only and I don't think I've done a car in over a year. If I were doing cars and wanted everything to look off the showroom floor, I doubt I would use my AB that much.
  3. I'm sure both sides have good reasons for their preferences. And had I more experience with Tenax, perhaps I would like it more? I hated that the Tenax I purchased had no brush. So I could never accurately apply it. Then half or more of it just disappeared before I could use it. I've gone thru dozens of those Tamiya bottles with no problems, and I can't think of a single way to improve it. So I was pretty much close minded going into the experiment. I like that the tamiya will hold pretty much immediately while giving you plenty of time to adjust.
  4. I do not agree that a "mold seam is a mold seam". Nicer kits have very light ones that come right off in a few swipes. Older or lower quality kits can wear you out removing some of them. Back to the question, is flash "a" measure of quality? Absolutely. The only one? Certainly not. The most important one? Certainly not.
  5. Seems to change every 6 months for me. I've built military, planes and jets both modern and old, F1, drag racing, Nascar, rally car, muscle cars. Right now my WIPs are a 1/350 USS Enterprise, a 1/12 mustang, and a 1/16 funny car.
  6. Occasionally. The more expensive stuff I will shop online for. But if it's some 20, 25 dollar model and I see it at the LHS and I really want it, I get it right then. It isn't worth it to me to go thru the trouble of finding the best deal online and waiting forever to get it just to save a few dollars.
  7. To anyone who thinks the price is too high - don't purchase it. The buyer determines price, not the seller. Not sure why anybody allows their panties to get in a know about what price someone has on something. Just don't buy it. Either someone will find the price is acceptable and buy it, or no one will and he will likely have to lower what he's asking.
  8. You'll have to tell me what "AMW" is. I'm sure it's not something nice.... but I'm curious never the less. Some of you have pointed out that my name is still not present. Hmmmm... I thought I had changed it but obviously not. I'll try again. In the meantime, my name is Michael Lawrence. I am a golf professional who lives in Virginia. I am not paranoid or the type of person who gets off not following rules. I have no problem following the rule or anyone knowing who I am. I just can't imagine why anyone on this site would give two dangs about who I am.
  9. Did I ever say otherwise? Harry sent me the email. I rolled my eyes. I asked him why this was the rule. He gave me a answer. Thus, I put my name on there per the rules. But I have as much a right to the opinion that it's a stupid rule as someone to have the opinion that it isn't too much to ask. The bottom line is I decided to follow the rule.
  10. Bob, I don't think it's "too much to ask". It's just an unnecessary request. We're talking model cars here. Why would anyone give a hoot what my name is or who I am? So it's going to rub people the wrong way when you get an email that says, hey tell me your name right now or you have to leave. At that point you have to ask yourself what is more important to you. I decided I wanted to stay a member.
  11. Well, it's a stupid rule. But I figured my pride meant less to me than learning from the many wonderful model builders this site gives me access to. My new year's resolution is to finish some of the handful of models I'm 90% done with. And to maybe one day actually post a picture of two of mine for everyone else to see. But here I am, 36 years old and I've never owned a computer so that may prove difficult. How am I here now you may ask yourself. -The computer in my office.
