Crizila Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 AHRA Midwest division 5. Ran this 64 Dodge in F1 B/S automatic. Held the class record for a while at 11.61 117mph. Engine ( 426 max wedge ) had to be completely stock. Dougs headers. M&H 10" tires. Two Vacuum sec 750 Holleys on a stock cross ram. B&M trans with a ridiculously low stall convertor ( cause there was no hi stall stuff at the time - and clutchflites were not allowed ). 8 3/4 Mopar diff ( which we blew up once ) with 4.56 gearing. Snail out of the gate ( there were no 60 foot times ), but good top end charge. On the average, about .3 slower than the Hemi cars of the time. We were sponsored by Holley for a time, so we got all our carb parts and spark plugs for free.
Snake45 Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 VERY cool! You really captured the feel of the era.
moparfarmer Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 A Dodge 440 series 2 dr sedan..Very rare in real life let alone a model..Very nicely done..

cdgamble Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 A real Beauty, I like your narrative to set the mood
Lizard Racing Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 A good fitting tribute. A model is always better when it is of a 1:1 you had. Really like the fenderwell headers!
Greg Myers Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Tell us about those cool headers. At first I thought they were from a JO-HAN kit, but upon closer observation I see there is a whole lot more to them.
afx Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) The Johan kit headers are separate pieces so they might be the kit headers Edited September 7, 2018 by afx
El Caballo Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 I built the Johan kit back in the day, what a great job you did.

At first I thought they were from a JO-HAN kit, but upon closer observation I see there is a whole lot more to them. I built this model a long time ago, so I can't remember for sure, but I think they were highly modified Jo-Hans. Couldn't use the Jo-Han body as ours was a 440 2dr sedan body. Body was resin cast. Hood scoop was of the 64 Hemi design which I fabricated from Card board. Original headers were Doug's. They had 2" primary tubes 34" long in to a 3.5" collector which we extended another 12" to try and help low end torque. The over all length of the headers was LONG, which caused them to crack at the header flanges until we finally ran straps from the end of the collectors to the body - to keep them from bouncing so much. I didn't use much out of the Jo-Han kit due to its poor detail quality. Actual chassis I used was from a Revell Mopar "B" body kit which I had to section a small amount to get the wheel base correct. Much better detail than the Jo-Han kit. I believe the engine ( parts of it anyway ) came from the Jo-Han. We ran two 750 vacuum sec. Holleys ( verses the stock Carter AFB ), so those cam from my parts box. No crankcase evacuation back in the day, so we ran open ( baffled ) tubes on the valve covers. This was an all steel car that weighed in a 3410. Per rules in our class, car could not weigh less than 3400, so we were right there on the weight. Traction control consisted of a pinion snubber, and clamping the front section of the leaf springs together.
