blunc Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 If there are any shops that offer 3d printed pontiac engines, I would like to hear back from you. I spent around 4 hours searching Shapeways, and while I found lots of fascinating parts... I didn't find any Pontiac engines in any scale, Quadrajet carbs in scales larger than 1/24, or any BOP automatic transmissions in scales larger than 1/24. GM HEI distributors were sadly absent also. There are some large scale Pontiac kits (1/16 and 1/8) that could benefit from the pieces I was not able to find. Camaro to Firebird trans-kits for the larger scales would be welcome also (large scale Foose-Camaro to Firebird trans-kit in particular).
blunc Posted November 26, 2020 Author Posted November 26, 2020 I really hope that the crickets in this thread mean that someone is out there working on this...
JollySipper Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 Hey, Mike man.... Do you have an Instagram account? 3Dscaleparts has a page there that you could maybe contact them thru...... They have a LOT of nice stuff. I'm thinking about ordering a set of wheels from them for the big scale T-Bird....... They have a Holley carb that I believe you can get in any scale, too.....

The 1/25 AMT '62 Pontiac Catalina has an excellent '55-'81 Pontiac V8 engine, and there is no shortage of these kits available in the sub $25 price range. Yeah, you'll need to tweak things as necessary for whichever model year engine you are building, but since Pontiac used the same basic block for both large and small journal V8s, the '62 Catalina's engine will pass for the vast majority of instances. If the '60s era Revell 421 Pontiac V8 is more to your liking, those are cheap and easy to find, too. Honestly, I really don't see a need for this from the aftermarket. Various and assorted intake manifolds and more typical passenger car type exhaust manifolds to use with the AMT '62 Catalina's V8 would be most welcome, though.
blunc Posted November 28, 2020 Author Posted November 28, 2020 thanks for the response guys, I'm not the only person looking for better engine options and quadrajet carbs for scale bigger than 1/24. Fireball Modelworks has some great carbs for all GM engine types but he doesn't do 1/16 scale. Other people do great Ford, Chevy, and Hemi engines in various scales, the people that want to have a decent looking Pontiac engine in anything large scale (don't forget all the dragsters that used Pontiac motors) are just left wishing.
Casey Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Either of the 1/16 Revell '34 Fords can provide a TH350 with a Chevy style bellhousing and an aftermarket style pan, but it's nicely done, and shouldn't be too difficult to modify to the B-O-P style. Other than the MPC '79-'81 T/As, I can't think of only the Otaki 1/12 Pontiac V8 from their '71/'74 kit. The 1/8 Monogram Pontiac V8s are no more detailed than their 1/24 scale siblings, and forget about any Buick or Olds V8s in larger scales. It took how many years to get modern tool 1/25 scale Pontiac, Olds, and Buick V8s? Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect anyone to jump on this opportunity to capitalize on larger scale B-O-P parts, as there is likely very, very little demand for them.

Hey, Mike man.... I tried to message 3Dscaleparts thru Instagram, but apparently he doesn't read or answer DM's. I mentioned that there was some demand for a large scale Quadrajet, but nothing from him.

Thanks TJ, that was an awesome idea, hope they get the message.
