J.B. Customs Posted February 2, 2023 Author Posted February 2, 2023 I have a lot of work to do to smooth this up. Trying to keep this a low budget build 4
Pete68 Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Looking good so far sometimes it’s hard to keep it with our budget but in the end it’s worth it.
J.B. Customs Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 Well the domino effect begins (Murphy’s Law) 4
Rockford Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Looks factory! What did you use for filling the joint?
J.B. Customs Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 First off a good cut helps a lot my first shot at a custom cab I used a exacto knife it didn’t turn out so well then I discovered the saws a good clean cut a light even coat of glue put your halves together I don’t try to wipe off are smooth out excess glue I let it dry for 24 hours then sand it down and then I use the Vallejo plastic putty to fill in the light spots 3
J.B. Customs Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 I just about have the interior complete still have some details to finish up on, now to concentrate on cleaning up the cab 4
J.B. Customs Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 Slow and steady one step at a time 6
J.B. Customs Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 I do have one question on studying this build there is no air breather going up the back of the cab I have been studying other 4070’s but can not find anything conclusive so my question is was there a breather box under the cab or mounted to the stack bracket or just a cap on the filter box(that would suck a lot of water and dirt)?

Dutzie Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 Paint looks great. You are off to a great start.
J.B. Customs Posted February 11, 2023 Author Posted February 11, 2023 Time to start mocking up the frame 3
J.B. Customs Posted February 11, 2023 Author Posted February 11, 2023 The easy part is done, now the hard part short’n the frame rails remount the stack and air filter can, fuel tanks and replumb it all so it looks original 2
J.B. Customs Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 Slowly starting to mock up the frame after removing 1” inch from the frame rails and removing the stack bracket mounts 1
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 First of all excellent work!! I have been wanting to build a cab like this for a while. If you have any pictures of the surgery please post them. I cut down a Freightliner cab in similar fashion to a 72” cab. I’m wanting to do one of these in either Old Dominion or Carolina Freight. They both ran these. On your breather, I may be wrong, but I think that it is just hidden by the camera angle. It may have been one of the shorter straight stacks instead of the one that angles over the cab.
J.B. Customs Posted February 17, 2023 Author Posted February 17, 2023 Thank You for sharing the info. Here are some pictures of how I sectioned the cab again thanks for the info 2
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Thanks for posting the sectioning. That is exactly how I thought about doing it to save the toolbox on the driver’s side. I was concerned about getting it right with the zigzag cut though. I even considered only cutting the zigzag on the driver’s side since there isn’t a passenger toolbox on my reference trucks. You did an excellent job though! It makes me want to tackle mine some day soon. Excellent work! 1
gotnitro? Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Excellent work ! These 4070 kits are really nice and offer tons of options in livery The frame chop and cab work looks fantastic 1
J.B. Customs Posted February 17, 2023 Author Posted February 17, 2023 This is the first time building a 4070 kit it is a very clean kit little to no flashing, parts fit together well no warped parts and very detailed and so far quite a challenge and thanks for the compliments 2
