stavanzer Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 And.... He painted in the Box Art Colours....He is back sliding again. Drat I prefer when he paints them some other colour. If I wanted to see it in the Box Art Colours, I'd just look at the boxtop...

I, too, enjoy his 'personalised' builds (with some exceptions -- the 1968 Coronet 'vert looks good on the box art). In this instance, he likely is keen on the box art representation, so I can't argue personal taste -- his model, his time, his build.

Oldmopars Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 So, I watched this and I know he said that some of the stock parts are there, but it can't be built stock. From watching it, it seems the parts that are missing are a stock engine, stock hood, and front bumper. These seem like parts box items. I think the big part that would be hard to deal with is the removable top. I'm thinking this may be a 3D print item. Anyway, what are your thoughts?
Tabbysdaddy Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 (edited) I thought you can use the hood and bumper from one of the recent 1/24 pickup releases. Big game country pickup, pickup with snow plow, sport stepside pickup. Edited February 23, 2023 by Tabbysdaddy
Luc Janssens Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 What's interesting is that, the clear parts for the missing top are included as well as the clear domes for the emergency lightbar of the Sheriff's Blazer.

Yeah, First Thing I noticed. Tabbysdaddy has it correct about the 3 recent GM pickup kits getting you the hood and bumpers you would need. The Stock exhaust manifolds are in the kit, oddly enough. However, only the stepside pickup kit has a stock Round Aircleaner and Stock Intake Manifold. (they are strangely enough, on the tree with the stepside fenders. So any Fleetside kit will have that weird '57 Corvette Fuel Injection Intake) The Big Problem I see, (if you over look the Top), is the seats. If there were two of the Big Driver Racing Seats, you could just use those, and be ok. They would not be stock, but would be acceptable for an open top "Beach Buggy / Roadster" build. (My plan) However, if you want stock seats and the top, Resin Casting or 3D printing looks to be the only way to get the parts you'd need. (I foresee a jump in the eBay prices for Glue Bomb Monogram Blazer/Jimmy Kits) My suggestion for a "Stock-ish Build". The New Stepside/ Sportside Kit for the stock engine parts, Front Bumper, Hood and Wheels/ Tires. Seats from the spares box. Top? You are on your own, unless (or until) the aftermarket fills the need. We are 80% there for a stock build, but I don't see RoG ever re-tooling the parts to bring it back 100%. The market for a stock Squarebody Blazer/Jimmy may not be large enough to justify the investment in tooling the missing parts. I would great enjoy being wrong about this.
Oldmopars Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 I just ordered one. I have the other required kits in my stash. The seats are not an issue, I will draw and 3D print those. As for the top. I can draw and print one, but printing those in mass is problematic. If there is a resin caster willing to cast them, maybe we could work on getting these made. 3D printing large parts like this is hard as they tend to want to warp badly during curing. There are things that can be done, but for production sales, it drives the cost up a lot. Too much labor.
Mike C. Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 I've been waiting for the re-release of the stock squarebody Blazers. Even though I have 1 gluebomb and one vintage Monogram kit based on this tooling. I still can't understand why Revell would re-release this version of the kit when everyone clearly wants the stock Blazer kit.

Because it was (relatively) Cheap and Easy, for a kit that has not been on store shelves for 20+ years. As for the rest, see my reasoning in the post above Scott's. Why hasn't Revell fixed those miserable Ground Hawg tires? Should be an easy fix. But two companies have known about the problem now for close to 40 years. Nothing has been done. Nothing ever will be done.

And maybe they know people like us will buy it anyway and figure it out. 1
wrenchr Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 HPI is a machine..............................I get burned out just trying to keep up with his builds. Must be a full time job.
Oldmopars Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 So, I am working on a new top for this. I have something to work with, however as it started as an STL file it was beyond the computing power of my current PC. I just spent a fortune on a new monster Mac M2 Pro and I hope this will solve the issues I have been having with a few projects. Once drawn, the challenge will be printing without warping. Good thing that is going to be handled by someone far more skilled than I am in that area. If anyone has seats and center console from the original, I would love to see detailed pictures and dimensions from that. I would like to do both front seats, rear seat and center console. With the top and parts from other kits, we can build a completely stock Blazer. 1 1
Mike C. Posted March 27, 2023 Author Posted March 27, 2023 Scott. I have the Monogram kit and the GMC kit. I'll dig them out and take some dimensions and pics for you. Another thing off the top of my head is the roll bar the Pulldozer has 2 fire extinguishers mounted on the outside, while the stock had one mounted on the inside. Of course, the clear parts would be a whole nother thing with this kit.

Mike C. Posted March 28, 2023 Author Posted March 28, 2023 I dug the Moogram Blazer out and took some quick measurements. The roof measurements 75mm long x 75mm wide and tapers slightly at the top to roughly 70mm x 65mm. The height of the roof is roughly 22mm . The front seats with console are one piece measuring 65mm wide x 30mm high. The rear seat is roughly 47mm wide x27 mm tall.
Oldmopars Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Excellent, thank you very much. I will be able to use that.
Mike C. Posted March 29, 2023 Author Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) As far as the angle on the front or rear of the top, I have no way to measure that. I suppose you could get that from the cab part in some way. I have the complete kit, so let me know if you need any other parts measurements. Edited March 29, 2023 by Mike C.
Luc Janssens Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Already did a mock-up of my pulldozer and spare box parts.. 1
Mike C. Posted March 29, 2023 Author Posted March 29, 2023 That looks like it's gonna be a nice one. ?

It is from a complete body, but will save me a ton of time attempting to get the curves right. However, my computer is barely limping along, and these files just lock it up. My new Super Hot Rod computer is on the way, but will not arrive until the first week of April. Its special order, so has to be built. Once it is here, I will be hitting a few project really hard. 1
