32 Ford Classic Cruiser

Started on this little quick build while on down time with the 67 Impala. Monogram 32 Ford Classic Cruiser I picked up at Ollie's. I think it's only about 75 parts. Painted with Testor's Gloss Grape Enamel.

Cool color, looking forward to your build.

For the price of $12, you should buy a few other copies of this kit. Too bad the fenders and frames are one piece.

I like the 32 and the paint color.  I wish our Ollie's around here would carry kits.  I used to go there about once every couple weeks and watch their ads but all I've ever seen was a Semi Truck one time.  I stopped looking.

Thanks, but I think you may have me confused with someone else as I don't have a youtube channel. I would have bought two, but this is the only one they had.

Thanks Bob. Our Ollie's never has many kits. I had saw on facebook where people were posting photos of their Ollie's with shelves full of kits. When I got this one ours only had 3 kits, this one and 2 that did not interest me. They will probably not have anymore for months now.

Looks like a worthwhile purchase, James, it's a Deuce. Seems like a good enough platform for some additional detailing. I have had good luck at the Ollie's in my area for kits and  Duplicator paint in the past and when I go there for coffee pods I always check those ailes. No luck lately but I will check today!  That Testor's Grape metallic is one of my favorites. I'll be following, for sure.?

Thanks Jim. I like the Deuce's. I only go to Ollie's for the coffee pods, 40 pods for 10 bucks and the taste is the same as the more expensive stuff, but when I am there I look to see if they have any kits. Most of the time they don't, but I lucked out this time. I'm planning on just wiring the engine, but after looking at it I'm not very satisfied with the kit engine, I may look in my parts box and see if I have something else that will work.

Yup. Good stuff cheap. Gotta love it. A few years back I scored some Duplicolor rattle cans for $2.00 &$3.00 ea. That got me going back often. They had Lindberg kits at that time, so I grabbed a few. I will definitely look today. What engine is in that kit?

Looks to be a SBC, 327 maybe? I've decided to go with it, couldn't find anything else I wanted to use.  Not sure what color I want on the sparse interior.

DEUCES WILD!!  I just got back from OLLIE'S at GLOUCESTER COURTHOUSE, VA. I grabbed 2 of 'em ?. They had an end cap full of Monogram kits. They had some C-6 (I think) 'Vettes, Lambos, Vipers, SVT Mustangs and in the toy aisle I spotted some Revell 1:48 Apache choppers and some foreign enemy (memory not good here) tanks. I think Panzer, maybe. They look fresh and new, all with the price stickers under the cellophane. This is a good omen! Gotta keep my little Ranger's battery charged up, and Ollie's is about 30 minutes away. I'll keep checking back. Not great kits but hey, for 13 bucks....and you never know. ?

Looking good.  

Though it's a simple kit, and 1/24 to boot, it's well proportioned and makes a fine model.

It can only be built (easily) as a full-fendered car because the frame is molded into the fender unit.

It's also a source for some trick parts readily adaptable to 1/25 deuce models, like the louvered hood parts.

I would have taken all of them but for the wrath....seriously, the rest was all tuners. Not worth it unless maybe you own a real one.i thought about the viper engine (drive train, actually) I might actually go back for one of those. Build it curbside and drop that tenspot in a old Valiant. Woo hoo!

Yes! It does look good all around, from my inspection. I can swap the engine,  use the axles. I have extra frames from the '29/'30 franchise.  Who needs those fenders ?  I could have my way with it ?.  No remorse. A salt roadster with only the windshield brackets. (Windshield frame detail ) Henry Ford black, Shoe polish number..Git 'er down and crusted.... or dry lakes, 1946. A highboy maybe? It's got '40 brakes. Mmmmm......I have an extra '40 dash....

Thanks Bill. I haven't built a full fendered 32, so that's what it will be. I forgot to paint my hood parts while doing the body, and used all my paint. Got to find another bottle of Testor's Gloss Grape, I think I got it at HL.

I knew you would have some ideas. For me it's just a straight OOB street cruiser.

The mufflers are open on one side and it shows when they are installed, didn't like that. So I cut them off the pipes and made some out of styrene tubing. I'll paint them red. I also added some "clamps" on the long header pipes because they wanted to hang down too low. Now they are up closer to the frame.

Yeah, good idea on the clamps. Do you think it's feasible to add some frame structure to the bottom?  I didn't see any in the box. This could be a really good kit with only a few tweaks  involving Evergreen and some study of the deuce frame. It's got me thinking now. Glad I checked this thread, James. I gotta do some studying.?

Wouldn't be a a bad idea to add some cross bracing, it would allow some more points to mount the exhaust. It hasn't got much support as it is, only at the muffler/header connection and the very rear of the frame on the tank. The rear axle has radius bars attached which I guess could be used to help support it. I may look into that.

What they depict on the box is a quasi-resto-rod (as indicated by the etched wind wings.) Straight out of the mid '70s. The Pete&Jake era. But the mechanicals aren't there. Stock wishbone, closed drive rear? No disc brakes?  Lots of room for improvements ? here, James. I grabbed some chassis pix. the red one is P&J.  Just to be a bit more authentic. I would convert the closed drive and replace the wishbone with radius arms, and ditch the "posts" that locate the rear axle housing. I know, I know, .....sorry. this one has me involved now . I would add actual frame rails to the fender/floor unit. Create the illusion. Then some tubular cross-bracing. Work the exhaust system in somewhere. Weave it through the tubes.  I wish I could start one now but I've got a log-jam, presently.

I don't like the stock tail pipes, look too small to me. I'm going to make some and have them come out the side in front of the rear wheels. I'll make a tip with some aluminum tubing.

Finished the exhaust system and got the little interior tub painted. Went with Tamiya XF-21 Sky, looks like sea foam green to me. I'll need to do a little detail painting on it.
