JTRACING Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 (edited) started this one the other day a bit of work on the chassis so far some ref pics. get an idea of the weathering Edited February 6, 2010 by JTRACING
Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Cranky loves rust! Long live rust! You are doing a fabulous job so far, chap. Keep it going.
Eshaver Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Looks like every Early Ford I ever restored / worked on Hammered on / welded on / cussed at / swore Id' kill it , etc! Ed Shaver
Sixties Sam Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Nice job! It looks awful! That's a compliment! The hole in the muffler is a nice touch. I'm eager to see the rest of it! Sam
JTRACING Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 a start on the body. the look I'm after is the car will have its "original" paint with surface rust etc. then some spots will be primer and others will have bare metal showing. so it looks like someone is doin body work on it in the garage or something. so heres the first steps. added a few rusted through spots. and some BMF where i want bare metal the bmf is sanded to give random look like sheet metal and also the edges of the BMF are sanded in flush with the rest of the body. all for now my BMF sheet is all wrinkly or i would have had more done lol
cruz Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 You and Cranky do the best weathering work among the forum members, I would love to learn how to do that, it's definitely an art!!
noname Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Everything is looking great. That BMF doesn't take long to wrinkle eh?
JTRACING Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 James, i love your work it's always awesome and inspiring! some contructive criticism here on your rusty body. in most cases body panels don't rust through in the middle. cars and trucks do tend to have some similar problem areas with rust through but all of them have particular rust problem areas that are unique to each. you have what looks like some good reference pics there so look for areas affected by rust in the pics. i think in most cases it's going to be behind front and rear wheels on the fender bottoms, rocker panels, under the bottom of the trunk lid. alot of 40's and 50's cars and trucks rusted through around the headlights too as alot of dirt got trapped up there. i'm not picking on you here, i've seen very few cars and trucks ever rust through in the middle of panels besides older Toyotas and Hondas for some odd reason. Dave thanks guys I noticed it has many holes on the top sides of the front fenders so i added a couple there. rest of the body will be just surface rust.
ajulia Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Hello thre friend! Excellent work fella! Thats really good weathering Keep on wit the keepin on! Paz Tito
JTRACING Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) a little work on the body i go the basic rust color applied. I'll add a few other shades in areas still. then i can cover it in salt and spray on the actual color of the car. which im thinking a dark green or blue. Edited February 7, 2010 by JTRACING
JTRACING Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) body color on, and the deep rust showing. next I'll add in more surface rust by stippling it on with an old brush then add pastels chalks and whatnot. i gotta add the rest of the chrome side trim first though Edited February 8, 2010 by JTRACING
JTRACING Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 I have most of the rust added now. just some fine tuning to do. next i can add in some streaking and stuff
Paulo Emilio Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 -Parabéns ! Seu trabalho está ótimo. Gosto muito de trabalhos em carros enferujados . Está muito realista.
sjordan2 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) With a little Bondo and a decent paint job, you could restore this beautifully. Edited February 8, 2010 by sjordan2
jbwelda Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 you know, and i know this is off topic so i beg your forgiveness for that, but that graphic of homer simpson sighting down his gun barrel just isnt doing it for me. a little too creepy. just wanted to say that. no need to change it, but its just scary. carry on...

cruz Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I'm hipnotized between your model and your avatar!!
jbwelda Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 at least your current one gives you something nice to look at past the barrel! thanks!
nails3825 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I'm more into the "show car" builds... stock out of the box, doing the best I can with the parts supplied ~ maybe adding a few minor details here and there. Never did I think of doing this to a model, it always seemed to be pointless. But the more I look at these rust buckets, the more they catch my eye. They have more of a personality than a regular build, every one of them is different. All the little details, missing parts... just the way they've "aged" over the years. Very impressive! And you guys do an awesome job at this ~ every time I look at these models the more I want to give it a try. HAH! But I'm sure it wouldn't come out as good as some of these builds You already know this but... wow ~ fantastic job so far! This old ford has class... I bet it still runs too!
Eshaver Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Nails , I reallly don't mean to pick at ya but the spark plug wires are supposed to run through two METAL conduits that run paralel to the cylinder heads . They were painted black . Now these conduits were not used on the " Newer " 8-BA or 49 - 53 Engines . You sir have a 59- A B engine and a very well done and otherwise excellent example of one too!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done work , well done , carry onward and upward ! Ed Shaver
