Greg Pugh Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I've searched high and low and was wondering if anyone knew of a resin hood for a '68-'69 Chevelle. Like what the Malibu and base models would have. I've only been able to find the usual SS hood and a large cowl type. Any help would be appreciated.
george 53 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Greg, this might not be as hard to MAKE as ya think. If you have a Dremel motor tool, and it came with the small drum sander, you could just sand/grind the hood lumps off the SS hood. Just go slowly and take your time to make sure you DON'T grind THRU the hood. If you want you might add some thin sheet(.10 thous.)to the depressions on the inside to make sure you got some meat under there.once you got them fairly gone use some sanding sticks to level it out. You MIGHT need ta put a light glaze of putty over the sanding marks, but I think that should getcha thru it.
Eshaver Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 For what it's worth, I simply got out some 60 grit and a paint stick and a sandwich . About a half hour later through the newz.......... done . Instant Flat Chevelle hood. Ed Shaver
Greg Pugh Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 The only problem is the vents at the back of the hood. If I could find any easy way to make those, I would do just that and modify the SS hood.
spkgibson Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) Actually ,, it is pretty easy to do the vents. All you need is a junk body to suply them. Here's how I did mine, First you gotta fill the cut lines on the bottom for the blower to stick through because they're deep enough thet you'll have holes right through if you don't. I suggest super glue and some kind of power sych as talc as a filler. Then I ground off the bulges and smoothed the yop with putty. You'll want to use a sanding bloch or one of those pre-made sanding sticks for this to keep it all flat and true. When you get it all nice and flat, carfully measure out where your vents will go and cut holes for them You'll have to find something with vents similar to the 1/1. I had an old '67 Plymouth GTX body lying around and used the cowl vent from that. I carfully worked the vent sections and openings with a flat needle file until I had a good fit. A little primer and a bit more finish work and I had a flat hood with vents like the 1/1. Hope this helps. Wow Steve that hood looks great, when I made mine,I used the vents out of the AMT 70 Vanishing Point Challenger,Mine turned out similar ,but your vents are alot more defined,GREAT JOB!And Deacon, when are going to have yours out?I want acouple of those, and if your still making that 69 Chevelle wagon,I need 2 of those also! Greg Pugh Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Sorry to drag this one back out but I was wondering if there were any new developments with a hood or am I going to have to make one like above?

Greg, Dencon is now making the hood, along with a complete '69 Chevelle wagon if you're interested in that, too. Go to Dencon Resin and take a look. Matt's work is highly-regarded and priced reasonably. Charlie Larkin
Greg Pugh Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 Hey Charlie- Where are you seeing that? I went to his website a couple of days ago and today after you posted that and I see where it's listed as "coming soon" but that's all I saw. I did see the Wagon body also. I sent him an email but I just haven't heard back from him yet. Could you list a link?
azscotty Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Found my hood! Where did you find one ??? I've been looking for one too .
