crazyrichard
hey all , just started the john buttera kit from revell. it seems a bit small , alright its a model t but its in 1/25 ...and therefore i think its just a tad too small in scale the molding isnt great but also not bad .. the thing this kit really has going for it is the fact that there are a lot of parts and even the chassis needs assembling , i like kits with as much as possible parts to assemble. i wil build this one custom , not out of the box .. more in the t-bucket style but keep it a 4-seater the boxart the body had 4 doors molded in the body i didnt like those so i flattened the sides on the front there was a raised vent buldge , i also flatetned that then sanded the whole body flat dryfit of the interiour tub stock window frame easy chop just cut the top end tomorrow i want to start building teh chassis and see what set up will work best Edited January 11, 2013 by crazyrichard
Ace-Garageguy
Actually, the bodies in the Revell series of T kits based on that tooling are very close to correct. I have the tall sedan-delivery version and just checket it with 1:1 dimensions, and with AMT's '27 T. The REAL problem with the T kits is the undersized Ford smallblock V8. Check it against the correctly scaled Ford smallblock engine in Revell's '32 Fords and you'll see what I mean. There is a Revell '34 Ford based on the T chassis in this kit that is REALLY undersized, as it was shrunken to fit the tiny T chassis. Stay away from that one. Ace-Garageguy
Richard, I'm pretty sure the kit scales out to 1/25. Model-Ts were quite small cars. Yes, Steve is right. I build 1:1 hot rods for a living, have a bookcase full of reference material on the old stuff, and just checked the actual measurements. Not opinion. Fact. crazyrichard
aright , thnx guys well i guess that the problem when you live in bloody holland and almost never can see those cars 4 real. i did see a real model t pick up ounce but that was in a shipping container so always good to get such info from you guys
crazyrichard
started the chassis and suspension , more assmebly then the revell kits , wich is a nice change .. the cast isnt great loads of sand work but that will be fine just a bit more work engine and transmission rear dif and brakes rear suspension front suspension Edited January 6, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard
well i cut the whole cab into pieces and i'm making it smaller with the bench as seat .... maybe a round tank behind the cab ?? the cab gave me a fight , nothing lined up after cutting , but with some patience i managed to get something going , waht you see on the pics isnt done but already very solid not really trying to get the dimensions perfectly the same like a real t-bucket just trying to get something cool going all rough >> still needs loads of work Edited January 7, 2013 by crazyrichard

crazyrichard
hmmm weird .. i can see them myself ?? anybody else here who cant see them ?? if so please leave a message when i looked at these 2 .. love both the vintage style and the tweedy pie so maybe something in between ? maybe i will shorten the frame like the ones above (lenght) so the t is short wheel based got the seems nice and smooth , that body is a real frankenstein , needed some good plastic surgery to become smaller .. from touring to .....lol Edited January 7, 2013 by crazyrichard

Jantrix
Since you have all that room left in front how about a Chevy inline six in there? I think they look awesome in hot rods.

crazyrichard
thnx hak and @ Jantrix hmm could be cool but i'm thinking of shortening the chassis and adding a nice fat v8 .. kind of had that in my mind and love the look that way , but def. could be cool to do a long inline engine ! crazyrichard
hey , made a firewall today from a side of the hood , with the louvres on it , on the flat parts on the right i made a brake booster i used a old revell booster and made the top half as big , made it sit more fluch against the wall and added a new top then shortened the chassis to get the look like i showed with the reference pics with the body on not doing a rear tank , want a clear rear end where the dif and suspension is visible also reglued the top part of the window , the chopped window made it look weird and too small , now you can see a person looks big in it due to the window hight love this chassis like this visible , something different from closed rails for ounce later when everything is sorted out i will make some extra support members in between the chassis (from side to side) Edited January 9, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard
dont mind the brake set up on the firewall , i realised i screwed that up and ..... going to change that used the roof to make a smooth underside on the rear , now the rear will flow into the rear bottom nicely sanded the rough shape into it some bondo shortened the drive shaft after the frame was shortened made a small round space in the firewall , maily for looks it ran free of the engine / trans but this looks better Edited January 11, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard
changed the brake booster , i hate it and i will use some reference on the net and make a complete scratch version later the underside came out smooth so the body sides flow over into the bottom with smooth corners sides are pretty sleak as well closed the floor section i made a small fake tunnel just felt it looked a bit better instead of all flat the firewall lines match nice with the seat found a cool interiour pic of a t Edited January 11, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard
flattened the front floor after bondo made a new brake ... with reservoir made the steering colom true the floor like the reference pic in my previous post , will make the pedals tomorrow dryfit good impression of the stance Edited January 11, 2013 by crazyrichard

TooOld
It's turning out very cool ! The shortened chassis with the tall windshield helps the look a lot , and the new brake master cylinder looks good . You've done a lot of surgery to get the body the way it is and it looks great ! Keep posting !
crazyrichard
thnx guys well actually did not had a set plan in the beginning , first wanted to try the long chassis with drag wheels in front.. then found some cool pics of short wheel base buckets and just loved the whole look of them and tooold yes the body actually was hacked up pretty good .. what i like most myself is that untill now everything is done using only the content of the kit , no added styreen not that adding styreen is a bad thing no def. not but its just fun to see that you can convert a kit using 99% of the kit also just happened did not do that on purpose
scalemodelworld
Looking very very cool. I love how you've changed it to be so short. Can't wait to see more!

crazyrichard
thnx well i did got some primer on it today first did the pedals and shifter like the reference pic i showed before here .. i still need to find a nice round thing for the shiftknob , there are pins with round heads i will look for those i think then made a steering wheel out of 2 steering wheels , i wanted a sort of deep dich in it and the one wheel i had was way to big , so i took a smaller one and made one out of the 2 then desided to use these rims i never use the revell rims and desided to use a set for the first time als made my own back sides , the rears are spaced so the wheels sit out more and run free of the body then sprayed the new back sides chrome then hit it with some primer , def some small bondo work but pretty smooth already now some of the detail shows better Edited January 13, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard
rough dryfit , work on the grille and engine very loose dryfit with the wheels , now i'm thinking maybe the steelies will look better ? test version of a header to get the right shape from engine along the cabine chrome on the grille Edited January 13, 2013 by crazyrichard
