k100 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Nothing better to do on a snow day , I started this awhile ago , cut the cab down to a day cab ,with a single rear axle .
Jim B Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 This should be really nice. I've been wanting to do one of these for a while. Are those the kit fuel tanks?
k100 Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Got a little more done . Thanks for all the comments.
Brinx Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Looks good Mark. I did one a while back, but my rivets (aft of the doors) didn't hold up as well as yours. Looking forward to watching your progress.
olsbooks Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Very nice. There used to be a couple like these owned by Thurston eeons ago that were hacked into mobile home toters locally here in the southeast. Only recently did they become razor blades. Always seemed like they would fall on their faces if the front brakes locked while running bobtail. http://hankstruckpictures.com/df_thurston.htm Really neat.
k100 Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) I miss seeing these old cab overs. I do have question for you guys what paint color is a close match for the Detroit Diesel color? Thanks again for the comments. Edited January 8, 2014 by k100
scummy Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Very nice , i remember a how to article in the old building model trucks book in the 70's .
Jim B Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I use Testors Model Masters Grun RLM 62. It's a pretty close match (to me) to the Detroit Diesel Alpine Green that was used in the 1970s. The Detroit Diesel Alpine Green that Dupli-Color sells is just too dark, in my opinion. Judge for yourself. Dupli-Color Alpine Green: Testors Grun RLM 62:
k100 Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Thank you James for the information . I never seen the how to article I just started cutting ......lol
purepmd Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Mark, great start. With the air foil on the roof, to me anyway, it screams UPS. I may have to make one of the brown clowns wiggle wagons. No offense to any UPS drivers meant. Just to many years of hearing that on the CB. Edited January 8, 2014 by purepmd
Old Buckaroo Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 With the air foil on the roof, to me anyway, it screams UPS. I may have to make one of the brown clowns wiggle wagons. No offense to any UPS drivers meant. Just to many years of hearing that on the CB. I had forgotten about that saying - thanks for the laugh of the day. I remember getting stuck behind those on I-80 through Wyoming. Jim - Nice work , and I like the RLM 62 better also.
Arnd Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 nice start on that girl. being a day cab it looks much better in my oppinion. and with the DD unter the hood, cab it will be really nice.so longArnd
k100 Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 I had a little accident with the frame just got it painted then I dropped it , luckily the only think that broke off was the air cleaner.
olsbooks Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I really like this little thing. Must be the season for "dinky's" as there is another thread of a Mack DM getting similar treatment. Nice job!
