rmvw guy Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 This is a car I owned from 1986 to 1998. I sold it for $8,500 to a guy that begged me for over 2 years. My mistake. The best I can do now is have it in 1/25 scale. It has been on the rack since before 1998 when I started it. After making all the mods to turn it into a 210 from an AMT Bel Air, I sprayed it with Dupli- Color Lacquer DAL1677 Gloss Black.Fast forward to 2014. The interior was changed to simulate the classic Del Ray interior. Hubcaps were taken from Revell '56 and engine from AMT '53 Corvette with some modifications like manual trans.I took the liberty to leave the trim off in some places the way I always wanted it. The guy I bought it from had just put these pieces on before I got it along with fender skirts.
1 bad55 stan Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 This is so nice.i think you have done a very good job on this one.
rmvw guy Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 More pictures. The chassis was lef a litte cleaner than normal for me.Hard to get in there with the camera, I didn't want to risk cracking the paint on the hood by removing it.Thanks for looking, please leave comments.
Ramfins59 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Great looking car Ron. Nice job. It's always fun to make a model of a car that you once owned.
Baugher Garage Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Spot on! Ya know, your 1:1 had some nice trim around the fuel filler door. Don't forget that piece! ;-)
rmvw guy Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Spot on! Ya know, your 1:1 had some nice trim around the fuel filler door. Don't forget that piece! ;-) Thanks guys. Mike, I did leave some trim pieces off the way I always wanted it. I just didn't want to leave little holes in the full sized car. I actually always prefered the 110 model with even less trim. A lot of those ended up at the drag strip with the bonus of less weight. I never was one for a lot of excessive trim on cars. Notice the pieces of trim on the rockers also, they always reminded me of lake pipes.
o-man Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Both cars look great! Too bad you got rid of the real one.
the goon Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Nice. I had a '55 four door, wish I'd kept it also. Mark
tbill Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 great looking replica of the real car, nice clean build.
TooOld Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Beautiful model Ron ! I think 55's look great all black . As for selling your car . . . been there , done that .
Skydime Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Very cool! I often find Del Rays to be the better looking trim level on tri fives.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Very nice!!! Loved the entire thing, the color, the conversion job, and the six cylinder engine. Very nice touch on the oil filter.
Terry Jessee Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I had one just like that except it was tan. My dad bought for me for $100. One of many cars I should have kept. Your model is wonderful, and so are the photos of your car. Thanks. Terry
FASTBACK340 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Sweeeet! Nice to see a 1:1 replica done right. Cool car!
realgone58 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Very nice! I've had some cars that I wish I had never sold too.
afx Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Very NIce Ron. I like the cleaner look with out all the trim
rmvw guy Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 Thanks everyone for the overwelming response. Every time I look at the photos I see something else wrong, I've yet to build the perfect model. Over all I am happy to complete this one after well over 16 years I believe. As a side note; I bought 4 of them in CALIFORNIA when the first issue came out in '89, I flew home on a plane with them as a carry-on, I didn't think they would ever be available here. lol
jeffs396 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Very cool Ron! If you can't have the 1:1 back, at least you have the 1/25 scale version to taunt you
