Jantrix Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Umm.................its been like two days now and I still leaving finger print marks in the Future clear? What gives? Does this stuff ever harden up?
Miatatom Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 It dries pretty quick for me. Certainly not 2 days. Humidity maybe?
vypurr59 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Base coats may not have dried enough, still gassing out and causing the future to not dry.
Harry P. Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Future dries quickly. It's water based acrylic, the water in it evaporates as it dries. I've never had a situation where it took days to dry... there must be something more to this story. Like Jeff said... something about what you have under the Future, maybe?
Faust Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Sorry to say, but I've had this happen, although not to THIS extent. I have found that a thick (like, turning white it's so thick) coat of Future can take weeks to dry to the point you can sand it without it pulling and ruining everything. However, usually it's dry to the touch in a half-day at most, usually 12 hours and you can pick it up, move it around, etc, without fear. I've never seen it be tacky for days. What did you thin it with when you shot it? What kind of paint is it over, and how long did it have to dry? What are your climactic conditions? Dankness really slows down the drying time. That's why I have two 60W gooseneck lamps that I use to powerheat my car bodies. Not as good as a dehydrator (going to get in on that action soon) but better than ambient! Just leave lots of room for the heat to escape; otherwise, you're looking at melted styrene! Future can get DARNED hot!
DrGlueblob Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I've hand-brushed Future on car bodies and it's never taken more than a day to dry.. I'm with the idea that it's reacting with the base / color coats gassing out under it.
Jantrix Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 You guys are likely right. I laid several coats on just hours apart, it's probably just that. I laid another coat on top of the finger marks and it looks fine. So I'll just wait for a few days before I do anything. It was paint brushed over enamels that were days dry. It is VERY humid. It was laid over these. And they look awesome. Will be posting the build they go with in a couple of days.
Speedfreak Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Cool looking boards Rob. If you read the instructions on the back of the Future (Pledge Floor Shine or whatever) label, it says it will 'dry' in 20-30 minutes, but, it also says 'wait 8 hours before applying additonal coats. It's a pain, but , that's what I do.
Jantrix Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Yep, as usual I read the instructions ...................................... after.
