randx0 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Opened it up as soon as I got home and was pleasantly surprised you made it home? I think I had the plastic off before I got to my car.
crispy Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Hey Dave, not raining on your parade here. But, all of these posts and not one single person has shown us any innards. I'm sure to have mine next week, but it seems like a huge secret, or everyone's camera broke! LOL Glad you got one. I look forward to mine. Chris
RodneyBad Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I have some early JoHann Mercedes kits, so may do some parts swapping - We'll see . The kit is very cleanly molded. Probably buy at least one more. Gonna have to wait till I get mine. Let's see some pics so I know what I'm missin. Can't wait to see what ya do to this one..
RatRod Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 OK guys......pics, we need pics!!! You guys are killing us less fortunate people!!!! Please charge your camera batteries, and shoot 'em, and post 'em......Golly Geeee.
ZIL 111V Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Decal sheet..............still the same as 1969 original
Jon Cole Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I never bought this one as a kid... are the tank treads molded to the rear wheel sets as one assembly? Hope not.
Chuck Most Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 you made it home? I think I had the plastic off before I got to my car. Somebody else shares my impatience... What kind of engine does this thing have in it?
Modelmartin Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Opened it up as soon as I got home and was pleasantly surprised at the size of the main body of the car - 1/24th scale. I have some early JoHann Mercedes kits, so may do some parts swapping - We'll see . The Jo-han is 1/25th and the Monograms are way big! I measured it at about 1/22 scale. My guess is that they scaled it up so that they could use their "one size fits all" classic car tire on it. If you put either the Jo-han, Italieri or Heller 500-540k kits next to one of the Monograms the size difference is really obvious. I am assuming Monogram used some of the same patterns to make the Rommel Rod as the stocker. Who is going to put wire wheels on their Rommel Rod? How about wires on the track wheels? Wide whites?
Harry P. Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Here's what you could do if you had the inclination... http://www.showrods.com/gallery_pages/rommel_super.html
crazyjim Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I don't know. I'm still thinking 23" chrome T's all the way around, V10 engine or a V8 with a front mounted blower. Maybe I'll wait to see what some of you guys come up with first.
lonewolf01 Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 you made it home? I think I had the plastic off before I got to my car. i didnt get the privlige ,the model shop had opened and already checked out the contentes before i could get there( i had this pre ordered since jan.)
RodneyBad Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 WOW! That does look HUGE!! Is it 1/24? Or bigger? I guess it is a Truck tho. Nice Wheels Wrap those around a set of Tracks
Dr. Cranky Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this kit. THANKS REVELL, thanks Tom Daniel! Here are some pics . . . Like I said I bought it for the skeletons! Edited August 29, 2009 by DamnCranky
Dr. Cranky Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Perfect! Hollywood Jim just pointed out there are no front ribs on these skeletons, but I guess they would not be difficult to build
RodneyBad Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Ooooo Cranky has one too. I hope this is on a to-build really soon list..
Dr. Cranky Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I just got it for the few neat parts . . . to use them in the rat rod shop!!!
Jairus Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) Couple of corrections guys. Tom's last name is "Daniel"! There is no "s" at the end. The Skeleton figures are not right at all. Bone structure is way off on these figures missing the Fibula in the legs and not sure but seems to be missing the Ulna on the arms. Then the Rib Cage is no where near what it should look like. One would be better off using the rib cage from either the Boot Hill Express or Lil' Coffin and modifying stretched-sprue to fix the arms and legs. Unless you don't care that much... then forget what I said. Suprises me that Revell didn't fix the few errors like the Skeleton figures when they obviously made corrections regarding the separate shovel and other details. Oh well.... (Roger, please pick up the lobby phone.) Except for Tom Daniel, he hates it when you call him "Mr. Daniels". Edited August 29, 2009 by Jairus
Dr. Cranky Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Thanks, J. We stand corrected. Yeah, the Boothill Express skeleton is better for the parts, but these skulls with helmets, well, what can I say? They are irresistible.
RatRod Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Well, in the start of this Rommel's Rod reconstruction when Moebius Models was going to it, Tom had said that it would be a much nicer kit than before, and the skeletons would be corrected. When Revell took over, and reverse engineered the original kit, and only changing a few small things for the better. I'm kinda glad they kept these original skeletons, even if they are way wrong, it just adds to the coolness of having a 40 year old kit back again!!!
Jantrix Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Hmm........................due to the slightly oversize nature of this kit. I might be tempted to use the engines/wheels/tires from a couple of 1/20 MPC Corvettes. For the top I think I'd find the top from one of the Hubley dual cowls or phaetons (they were plastic) and cut that down to fit. I think this kit has such untapped potential for real origainality and creativeness. I can't wait.
evilone Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 those kits are out already dang ive been slacking off too much man i need to get me one of those. How much are the repops? and what else has come out?
RodneyBad Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 those kits are out already dang ive been slacking off too much man i need to get me one of those. How much are the repops? and what else has come out? The Re Pop Rommels are running $24 at my LHS (haven't got one yet, passed mine to Dave) EvilOne and Rommel. O Ya, that would turn out cool. I don't know how it would look with those 1109s tho.
