I just started hacking away at this '32 Chrysler Roadster and have it channeled about 7" and I'm starting to think about engine options. I like the straight 8 it came with and am defiantly leaving it. I have a manifold and carbs off a '51 Chevy that will adapt but am looking for some other ideas for induction setup and options I can use for the exhausts.

The photos show the stance mockup from Photoshop with the front axle tight against the frame and rear end in stock position. This will give a good rake and maybe will lower the rear slightly still. The engine is shown with stock intake and exhaust in place. The upper manifold is the exhaust .. it exits below the intake manifold at the center and does look good in that high position.

I am planning to use many of the stock components with little switches here and there as the mood strikes. Not a radical rod, but a Chrysler seemed to be a bit different than all the "other" '32's running around. I'm still leaning to the original wire wheels and tires ... those 17's look nice big.

Color wise, it in the air .. I do want to tape off the body moldings for a two tone, but what those two colors will be ... Suggestions here will be appreciated also. :)

Any and all suggestions are welcome .. this is still in the thought process!! :)

this looks to be a really nice project.... Im gonna add my $0.02 cause you asked for it. I would use the stright 8 but add a modern twist to it. add a fuel injection system and mondern headers two sets so you can run duel exhaust pipes. Id go as far as scratchin up a supercharger or twin turbo with the intercooler right behind the radiator. Can be done! heck if you dont do it maybe I will....LOL! Just my thoughts on the subject. Have fun and cant wait to see what you do with it. Romell :D

I've been mulling over the suggestions made and it looks like I'm taking everyone's advice! B) The paint I mocked up in Photoshop and I like how the blue body with white trim looks. I tried other trim colors and they just don't POP like the white does. Silver was too dull looking, but it got me on the right track.

I did have turbos in the back on my head, but Romell's suggestion convinced me that was the way to go. I decided to use Plastistrut tubing with their elbows to plumb up the twin turbos. They just seemed like a simple way to get all the bends without using solder or wire. I'm half pleased with the elbows .. they do fit tight to the tubing without glue for mock up as they have finned pins that fit into the tubes. I was disappointed with the ejection pin divot on all the elbows. An elbow is shown in the photo below. The tubing in the photos is 3/32 but it looks like I should use the 1/8 tubing. Glad I got elbows for both!

The turbos shown are from some Hasegawa Porsche 944 kits I had converted to normally aspirated and seem about the right size for this. The original grill will be moved forward and sloped back with the intercooler mounted behind it. The intake manifold has been already modified with 2 tubes mounted into the depressions already cast into it. The exhaust manifold (above the intake in the photo) will have two tubes attached running down at 45 degree angle to the 2 turbos at the sides.

I also took this build to try out the wired distributors from MAD strictly on recommendation from many posts on this forum. The almost useless SMALL photos on the MAD site have kept me from ordering (HINT to Kris) any in the past. My biggest complaint with wired distributors is the smooth caps.. I want to see the wire "tubes" that are on most caps. Now, I have to say .. GREAT DISTRIBUTOR CAPS Kris! One of the caps in in the photos below for those that haven't seen these and how great the detail is.

I am debating how fuel control is done. The option I'm favoring is to make a couple throttle bodies to insert in the intake plumbing. This may not look that great, so some suggestions would be welcome that would fit with this engine. I'm thinking fuel injection but not sure how this would look or what I could adapt from another kit.

I don't know why I can't replace the photos in the last post. It says I can't find the thread when I Save, but I did edit and save the posts before it. I even tried copying the full post before trying to save and pasted it in a new post .. gives a 404 error saying it cant find the post.

edit: that text post did save, so here's the photos for the previous post:

Since you asked for constructive suggestion on this project I add mine.Without the fenders the bare roadster body shell looks too long by itself in my opinion. If I were building this highboy I would remove the section behind the interior that includes that golf bag door and recessed place for the folded down top. That would bring the body into much better proportions.Of course that would require shortening the frame an equal amount but would be worth the effort. You might try that on the computer to see how it would look.I personally do not have the computer skills to do that type of thing so would simply photograph it and cut the section out with my exacto and tape it back togeather.

Good luck with whatever your plans are and be sure to post the results here on the forums.

That is a long body. I'll have to take a look at your suggestions.

I'd be interested in the fenders if you want to get rid of them. I have the Ma Barker version of this Chrysler but the fenders were painted with something that destroyed them. It was like that when I bought it. I didn't see the fenders before I paid. I most likely wouldn't have bought it if I had.
