Jairus Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 These are the basic instructions for posting pictures on this forum. Photo storage: To post pictures on this Forum you need your pictures stored somewhere OFF your computer and on a commercial photo site. There are many photo hosting sites, some free and some with a nominal charge, that will work. Fotki and Photobucket are just two of many. You can also store your pic's on a web site server if you have access. You just cannot store them on your computer. Photo size: A good size to shoot for is 720 x 490 pixels (10 x 4.5 inches) at 72dpi. That’s a file size of 156Kb. We want to keep this forum friendly for everyone including those who still have dial-up. Shooting pictures with your own camera set the resolution for SQ2. Any higher quality and you will need some type of photo-cropping software on your computer that can reduce the size. Photo posting: Ok, lets say that you now have an account on Fotki! Those pictures now have an address in the system you can access. That address is in the address line of your browser. You can highlight and copy that address. Open a new browser window, paste that address and hit Enter. If the picture opens in the new window then you can post that address on this Forum and everyone will see it! If it opens the "picture hosting web site" asking for a password.... it won't work on this Forum. Photobucket has a nice service. If you don't have a Photobucket account, go there and set one up. It's easy and free. Once you have the account, create a photo album and upload all your pix to it. Once they are "parked" on the Photobucket site, all you need to do to post a picture here is to copy the photo's url (IMG code) and paste it here into your post. (image courtesy of Harry P.) OK, you click "Post Reply" or "New Topic" and you start typing in the little box. Up above the box are a row of buttons, among them is one labeled (Img). Click that button + Paste or type the address for the picture you want to post + click (Img) again. It should look something like this: [img ]http://web%20address/photoname.jpg[/img ] (I had to add spaces inside the commands to allow them to show. Spaces anywhere in the above line will result in a red “X†or a blue “?†depending on PC or Mac) <<<<< if you get this then there is something wrong! [ ] - Brackets are a command for the browser. [/ ] - Brackets with a back slash tells the browser to cancel command. You have to have both for the photo to post like this: It will be a little different for each person depending on computer, browser, photohosting and processor knowledge. Ask questions if you need to and send me a PM if any of you more experienced "bloggers" wants to add something to these instruction. Ciao
MrObsessive Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Remember folks that if you use Fotki, you MUST use the URL found under the "Share Photo" button if you want the pic to be directly on your message. Otherwise the pic may show, but it will only last on the board for only a short time. This goes for free AND paid accounts. You can't just right click on the photo and get the properties URL.....................The pic won't last the day!

Bill, actually you can use the URL from a right click/properties menu, but you have to manually delete the remainder of the code to the right of the .jpg of your image URL from that menu. The rest is the same as seen in the "share" button URL.
ismaelg Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Another important tip: PREVIEW PREVIEW PREVIEW. If it doesn't show in the preview it will not show in the post. When you use the "Share Photo" link in Fotki, sometimes you get a space before the http and after the .jpg. That confuses the system and the image will not show. Make sure there are no spaces before or after the link ,especially if you are doing manual img tags. Thanks,
Harry P. Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 If you use photobucket, you don't need to click on the "image" icon here when you want to post. Your photo that's sitting on photobucket already includes the image tags in the "IMG code" (that's the third line of type below each photo). So all you need to do is copy that text and paste it here into your new post window. Photobucket is far and away the easiest, most-user friendly photo hosting site that I've found. It's easy, it works, and it's free. There may be others out there as good, but none better.
dub Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) Photobucket can also do several pics at once by clicking the square next to each pic to get a check mark and scrolling to the bottom of the screen. There is a key labeled "generate HTML tag". If you click it, it gives you 3 or 4 different ways to post. Go to the one for 'message boards' and highlight all of them. You can paste that directly into your post with no typing. This way gets you a clump of pictures all at once. I do it this way and like Izzy said preview, preview, preview. Each pic is on its own line and I find it easy to type a description in between if needed. Edited November 6, 2007 by dub
