Old Buckaroo Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) After seeing all the great Trucks built over the past year and New Trucks starting to transform on the bench, I need to get back to work. Russell C posted a pic of this truck some time back and I was awe struck, I love to old school trucks and just had to build this one. I did a quick mock up of a few key parts to check against the reference pic I am using. Sleeper sets too high , but most likely wont use this resin brick anyway. It was just handy for the pic. Stay tuned Edited February 27, 2015 by Old Buckaroo
Petetrucker07 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Thats gonna look good Sean. I dont know but i might be startin to like these old rough riders. Guess ill know when i finish my DR.
kilrathy10 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Great start.....Looks quite promising......Can't wait to see more.....
olsbooks Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) I surely like this. It will be sharp. So with all the DR builds going on, when is someone going to build this thing? Of course it is ALMOST orange and a monster wheelbase... right JT? wink wink... Â Edited May 9, 2018 by olsbooks
Rigzndiesel Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Looks like your work bench is up and running Sean! Can't wait to see more progress on this build. I like the looks of that Appollo DR as well. Is that one long fuel tank or two separate tanks close together. My eye sight is not working tonight. Looks good! Jeff
Old Buckaroo Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 Jeff - after seeing it posted it is not that great of a pic, I doubt it is your eyes.. That is one long tank made by doubling up the kit tanks. Still working on the other one.
Rigzndiesel Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Sean, Cool, thanks! Nice job on combining the two tanks. I see you have a brochure. Does this truck have dual tanks and battery boxes? I don't think I've seen a Diamond Reo set up as a long haul tractor except a Reo Giant. This may end up on my "things to build" later list. Jeff
fantacmet Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) Ya know if you are looking for a sleeper for that thing, I picked up the International Transtar 4300, I'm not going to use the sleeper as I'm building it as a logging truck, so I'm doing it with the day cab. We could probably work something out if that's the kind of sleeper you are looking for, since I don't build alot of bigrigs. Edited January 3, 2015 by fantacmet

Jeff Jeff - that is the picture Russell posted back in the "altering boxart" topic, no brochure This version will have dual tanks and battery boxes Michael - thanks for the offer on the sleeper but I have a box of them someplace
Superpeterbilt Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Hey Sean, heres a few brochures I have. Its lookin good sofar. Id put an AMT Kw sleeper on it if your going for the look in the pic. Heres some more viewing material. Heres some short hood eye candy just for the hell of it.
Petetrucker07 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Now you went and did it Terry. You posted a pick of a DR with a big bumper, i gotta use that now on mine.
Russell C Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Very cool, luv the old stuff from my youth. Now, If I could just inspire myself to create time to build 'em. Glad to inspire others, and Diamond Reos are my favorites overall.
Casey Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I love that orange /cream stripe version in the brochure. Looking forward to watching this one progress, Sean. Was the cab/hood/sleeper stripe ever available from AMT in any other color but yellow?
Old Buckaroo Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 Now you went and did it Terry. You posted a pick of a DR with a big bumper, i gotta use that now on mine. Clayton, that was actually the first thing I started with on this one Pretty simple to make if you have another donar kit. Terry - Wow, thanks for adding those pics. That 90" has made it to the "Must Build list" Casey - The decal sheets I have aslo have the stripe in Black. Also included is the "Diamond Reo" hood as shown on the 90" truck Terry posted above. Thanks to everyone who has looked in and commented !
Petetrucker07 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) Ive already started lookin in my parts boxes. But im not sure on the big bumper right now. My DR is tryin to look like a pete right now. Maybe i should leave the smaller bumper. Edited January 3, 2015 by Petetrucker07

Petetrucker07 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 OOOOWEEEEE !!!!! I like it...I like it...I like it...... There ya go man. A reason to build a DR now!
Old Buckaroo Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) I robbed a pristine sleeper from a W-925 kit. I had a few old ones but they need a serious stripping. Easier to go with clean fresh vintage plastic. I have come to the conclusion this kit was not really meant to be built with a sleeper. Makes for tight trailer clearance. And that is even after moving the fifth wheel plate back 15mm. I am going to go ahead and lengthen the frame on this one some. Thanks for looking in Edited January 6, 2015 by Old Buckaroo
Superpeterbilt Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Looks great Sean, and yes it needs a little stretch. The kit builds a perfect daycab length, but they screwed the pooch on adding the sleeper. This will be the first one Ive seen built like the brochure truck, and it looks killer with the Kw sleeper.
