Love these sorts of builds. Beautiful work on the cage!

These arent MS wheels. They are from a friend of mine and they are a fantastic mold. I have like 4 sets I think.

This is one of my many other projects I hope to see an end to at some point. Im honestly not 100% happy with the body work, but I love the engine bay. Anyway, this will be a track ready themed car, staggered Meisters, RB26 swap, widened, etc. I originally planned to do a 1:1 of my real car (I have a coupe IRL) but I just went crazy one night and chopped this and an R32 Skyline up, lol. So, this is where Im at right now. Tell me what you guys think.

Project: "Inferno" 49 Merc - *Update p17* 3/13/15

That stuff call Totally Awesome is THE best chrome stripper Ive ever used. It strips chrome clean in under 30 minutes. And its pretty good on paint too. As for your fuel tank, you dont really have to open the trunk, it could just be one of those trust me its there sort of things. Thats what Im doing for my Camaro since there will be a rear diffusor covering that area up. Just keep it simple, thats almost always the best solution. -

The only issue I see with that, and thats if you are going for realism, is that your exhaust would cause the suspension to bind up. Now, you could try something like this if you dont mind changing up your design a little: Or something more like what you want. All the stuff I was able to find shows the exhaust running up above the rear end and then around the gas tank. Where is yours going to exit? -
Does anyone know the common size of hexagonal rod for making AN fittings?

Can you post up some pics of the assembled rear with the surrounding area, I will see if I can maybe brainstorm something for your exhaust. -

The exhaust can run over the spare, but not the gas tank. IRL it would serve to heat up the gas and would burn out your pump. Will there be room to run it to either side? As for your 4 link, you could always do a 3 link instead, two bars straight out and one cross bar. Would save you some room. As for sizes, Ive used 2mm rod for mine, so anything around that size is dead on, imo. Anything smaller will be too weak. -
Go with the red one.

What kind of wheels are you looking for? I might have something I could part with.

My first frame on this build I did free hand and it ended up not lining up correctly and me having to fight it. I highly recommend one if you can get your hands on one, its well worth it especially for what you are trying to do. That said, its still possible without one, its just a hell of alot easier with it. -
I think for your first try, you are doing an excellent job. Hows the fitment to the body and have you figured out what to do with your interior yet? That was the one BIG thing I didnt think about ahead of time. Ive ended up having to literally scratchbuild an entire interior which is more of a pain in the rear than the entire chassis combined.

Pretty much dude, thats how I learned. This was my first time building a frame and scratchbuilding anything this intensely. You just gotta dive in a do it. If you need ideas or inspiration, google Art Morrison frames. Thats what mine is based off of. And make sure you have a Mitre Box. It is absolutely invaluable to building a frame... or anything really. If you need any other help, feel free to ask. I will be happy to help in whatever way I can and I can definitely say the people here are super helpful and there is ALOT of talent on this board, so dont be afraid to ask. -
Awesome! Especially love the fishing rods.

I dont know how Ive missed this build, but phenomenal work on everything!

I can give you the styrene rod size and a basic guide, but there is no blueprint per say because your frame size, suspension layout, and different measurements will differ depending on the car you are building. Now, that said, I actually have a Challenger that I plan to build pro touring and I plan to give it a similiar treatment when this one is finished. -

Thats some sexy stuff! As for the suspension stuff, you can build stuff that looks just as good and works just as well as parts like the RB Motion stuff. Im not trying knock his stuff, its awesome, but I built the coilovers I have on the camaro in around a half hour and out of maybe 50c worth of styrene and wire. And coming from someone whos had to assemble his parts, they are a BITCH to put together, just an FYI. Not for the faint of heart.
