Spray Booth Fan
hooterville75 replied to hooterville75's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I went through the past several pages of this and didnt see anything answering the questions I had so I asked. Perhaps a few hyperlinks to your information would have been more appropriate. Ill attempt again to find what your speaking of and try to build from that. -
Spray Booth Fan
hooterville75 replied to hooterville75's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just went and measured the cabinet that I'm going to use as the spray booth. It measures a total of 35" tall. It has 4 3/4" legs, then a 9 1/2" storage compartment (which can be knocked out eliminating the tiny lil storage area at the bottom), then 20 3/4" working area. It is 24 1/2" wide and 19" deep. I think I'm going to knock the plywood floor out of the bottom on top of the storage compartment and replace it with a piece of pegboard and mount the motor where the storage compartment is. That will give me a cross draft I believe (remember I'm new to all this lol). If I'm following this right I could vent it out the back going straight into the dryer duct (vent) already there for the previous dryer hooked up to it. The blower motor is 6" thick at the most. So Ill have plenty of clearance with the 9 1/2". It should make a pretty nice spray booth. Unless I'm missing something, if the motor should fail, the new motors are still the same principals and a few simple modifications and I'm back in business. If not Ill take everyone's suggestions and create something that will work. I have been watching a couple of fans from a couple websites that I am interested in if this motor definitely wont work. They are both 1550 CFM fans the first is $26.99 and the second is $27.99. . -
Spray Booth Fan

Aaronw, when helping my father clean out his garages and basement the other day I was able to snatch this blower motor as he was going to throw it out. I have no clue how many cfm's it is all I know is that the exhaust runs down through the bottom of the blower motor and that the exhaust opening is 3 1/4" X 10" and they make a universal adapter that is 3 1/4" X 10" X 4" to get the 4" standard dryer duct. We just remodeled the laundry room moving it from the basement (Which is where my man cave now is), moving the washer and dryer upstairs so I have the old dryer vent to use as my exhaust for the spray booth. The dryer vent starts at the floor elbowing to straight pipe the entire way up to the ceiling into a crawl space outside (which is under a addition added to the house years ago). So what I figure I can do is cut the straight pipe to match the level of the spray booth. Run straight pipe to the booth, using a elbow to connect to the straight pipe going to the ceiling and outside. I will get exact measurements for all the vent pipe later this afternoon. Here is the blower motor I picked up from my father. I don't know anything about it other then its a blower motor and says Fasco on it. Ive researched it online and can find nothing about it. I will tell you that its OLD. But hey I plugged it in and it still works and blows a good amount of air. If its not broke, don't fix it right ha ha. -

Thanks for the info. Ill be sure to search for spray booth fan. Remember Im a newbie here so I was unaware of that. Thanks for bringing to my attention. -
Which external motor fan would one recommend for a DIY Spray Booth ? I have a cabinet that my folks were going to throw away that is about four foot high, it sits on four legs, has about a foot compartment for storage and then another three foot opening that I would like to make into a spray booth. I would like to have the fan mount to the bottom of the booth in the middle, which I'm assuming would take up one foot (give or take) then insert 1/4" rails around the booth for the filter to rest on. I would like the filter to be as big in size as I can get to match the depth of the booth which guessing would be about 24". I would then like to put a piece of pegboard on top of the filter. I'm assuming without doing any measuring I would then have approximately 2 foot to spray in. Would anyone know how many CFM's I would need to sufficiently run this spray booth and which type of fan with an external motor I would need ? Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to build this booth within the next week. Thanks in advance for any info you guys could give me.

Which is rediculous because you can send a model kit flat rate parcel priority mail for $5 to $8. Im good with that but when they charge $15 or higher for a model to ship anywhere from the lower 48 to another of the 48 its rediculous. I can have 20 bottles of Vallejo Model Air shipped to me from Canada for $20 yet a kit from another state in the US $22.50 pffffffffffffffft, Ive started sorting the sellers on ebay out lol. I also try to buy multiple that way shipping is combined and more legit.

They go for that low of a price but what you need to key in on is the $25 shipping tag that comes with them which is why a bunch of us call it Evilbay. Charge the actual shipping price dont inflate it to an outrageous amount. If you want more for your kit put a higher starting bid on it. Not saying you do this, just saying in general.

Monster Jam was just on tonight, I imagine it was a rerun but don't know because I didn't tune in. Pinks all out was a joke as it was all scripted. They knew who as going to win before the show was even recorded. It was held at Maple Grove Dragway in Reading, PA not far from me. It was a complete joke. I do like Pass Time. They carry too much car tv shows in a talk show format for me. Im more of a watch the races type of guy. It is what it is, time shall tell.

Small price comparison on HOK
hooterville75 replied to jayhkr's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
So basically I should experiment with the basic scale model paint manufacturers, IE Testors, Model Master, Vallejo, Tamiya etc and get some experience using those before jumping into something like HOK ? So far I've only used Testors with some Vallejo and Tamiya on the way. Was just hearing a lot of people talk about HOK but am in no way an experienced painter with an airbrush so I think Ill wait a bit to get into HOK. Thanks for the info GHolding. Much appreciated my friend. -
Small price comparison on HOK
hooterville75 replied to jayhkr's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Being new to the hobby, Ive found HOK website very user unfriendly. What is the actual type of paint we want to search if were looking to buy HOK paint to shoot through the airbrush ? I'm trying to experience every paint manufacturer possible before I pick a paint of preference. Thanks for any info you may be willing to give in attempt to obtain the type of paint I want to purchase through HOK for shooting through the airbrush. -
SQUARING UP YOUR TIRES & CHASSIS
hooterville75 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Does anyone know if they make the leveling squares in a bigger length that you could square both tires of the same side with one square without having to turn the rules with squares on around to the other side ? That would be superb. -
Cheap craft paints
hooterville75 replied to hooterville75's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Magnum, Thanks for the reply my friend. I myself as like you am Disabled on SSDI so I need to save a buck when I can. If its pennies per kit then so be it. Savings are savings. Thats why I wondered about the cheaper craft paints as they're readily available at a cheaper price. I have no hobby shop near me as the closest is probably about one hour drive from my residence. I can go to a Michaels Craft Store or AC Moore or even Walmart and pick these craft paints up for a buck or less. So thanks for the valuable information in regards to the craft paints. I am a fan of picking up several bottles of paint from any manufacturer and attempting to use it. Never know what the outcome will be until you try. So do to your information and advice, I believe I will try this for the interiors and fine details and pick up the primary colors to start to see how it turns out. Being disabled on SSDI if you find any tips or tricks to save a few bucks here and there scale modeling please do pm me with the info on how to save and Ill do the same should I run into any ways to save a buck. I've only built one kit so far which was a Nascar kit but have resorted to Scale modeling as a way to occupy my time since being placed on SSDI. Nice to meet you and again thanks for the valuable info. Enjoy your evening my friend. -
Never say never lol. Never know what the future holds Mate!!!!!

Is it possible to use any of the cheaper craft paints in the airbrush painting scale models ? I often see Apple Barell, Americana, Createx, etc paints very cheap at Walmart, and Michaels. Will these paints work successfully out of an airbrush to styrene models ? Would be a huge money saver if they did but chances are Im assuming they wont. Has anyone used and had success with any of these ? Thanks in advance for the info.

I cant even find it on Evilbay. Thats what makes me think it may be a discontinued item. Dr. Cranky speaks very highly of it and gets his from a friend that works for Dupont I believe. Hey Doc, hook a fellow modeler up with a couple cans of it if you have access to it ha ha ha. Doc rocks!!!! -

scale sprints ...
hooterville75 replied to clavender17's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Chris, Glad to see another fellow PA person here. Im from Central PA. Live within ten miles of Port Royal Speedway, a half hour from Selinsgrove Speedway and forty five minutes from Williams Grove Speedway. You mentioned that you built the Saldana Sprint car and Swindell sprint car. Has someone released additional Sprint car kits that I missed or did you just purchase a sprint car kit and after market Saldana Decals ? Also with the Swindell sprint car. Was it the Channellock or TMC sprint car or again another kit with after market decals for the Big Game Tree Stand car ?
