Well these past two weeks have been great to me, it always seems to work that way on eBay. There are times when there is nothing of my interest, or kits are extremely pricey. Once in awhile, you get those nice deals that makes it all worth the wait and patience. I got these hard to find amt f150 kits from the 90s and the ford ranger splash, I feel like I got a fair price on these. $15 a piece , I've seen these f150 kits sell on eBay for up to $40.

monogram aerodyne conventional 80s kit
ERIK88 replied to ERIK88's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks guy so! I'm glad you guys liked it. I want to learn how to make a custom truck with oversized stacks, stretched frame, cool fenders, and huge front bumper. This is one of more to come! -
I have a monogram Aerodyne conventional snap kit from the 1980s , it was part of a collection i bought. I had initially put this up for trade, however due to no replies. i decided to build it! It was a really great kit, the rig was painted createx pearl blue, followed by a nice smooth clearcoat. The hardest part of this kit was placing the decals on the side of the body. Nonetheless. it was a fun, and exciting build! I ended up buying a few more trucks since then!. I will prob strip all the chrome on my next trucks, and spray alclad.

I too am usually not a guy that believes in tampering original artwork, but I think the new wheels fit it well, looks like, some retro hot wheels car

Here are some nice kits I found on eBay. I always liked the 80s Indy cars , and for $9.50 free shipping a piece I don't think they were a bad deal .

I voted for the amt 58 impala as well. I have the revell and amt, however the amt model looks much more realistic to me and I love the extra parts!!,!

yes definitely! I bet your builds came out awesome!

This is my next project, old school Impala low rider two tone. Createx pearlized yellow and pearlized white. The roof top will be white, everything else yellow. Kens fuzzy fur yellow carpeting. I can't think of a good color for the interior though, maybe white? Nonetheless, it should be a pretty exciting build. I love impalas and low riders! This is what got me introduced into the hobby! Lindbergh hopping hydros and revells low rider edition impalas / low riders. I don't like murals or weird designs, plain clean paint job

Ive obtained some really nice kits this weekend. Given I'm a mustang fan, I got two of the Imsa mustangs at a decent price $28 for both. I got my holy grail kit finally! AN Amt 65 riviera , the back bumper chrome was faded , but nothing a little alclad can't fix. And then I bought a Amt 58 impala for $8 bucks lol. It's been a great week.

thanks kennyboy! Your mustang looks great as well! I love the addition of the drivers window haha. The fujimi rims are nice, almost cobra like! These definitely come out nice with a little work. What's weird is that I've found mostly every modern revell m Mustang sits kinda high, but it's nothing that can't be fixed as proven by these pictures!

Here is the stang's older brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks! I try to be as clean as possible with my builds . i wet sanded the body with micro mesh sandpaper so smooth that when I cleared it didn't need additional sanding, and there was no orange peel. This one will pair with my other 89 stang. I remember seeing a bunch of these as a kid , and would dream of driving one. I always said I was going to get one when I got older, but Is funny how tastes change and this car has not aged so well in my eyes. The car screams 90s all thruought, and would probably not get one unless it was dirt cheap ! Lol. I would rather go for the mustang lx , 80s stang, or early to late 2000s stang! This model is still great too look at , and looks fresh off the showroom. 94 was the first year this body style was released .

Created paint is great!
ERIK88 replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well createx came out shiny and smooth with krylon acrylic clear. I did a few test shots with diff colors and it came out looking pretty neat. It's def a nice paint for custom building. -
-
This is my latest build, it had a lot of work done to get the ride height correct. Other than that it was a pretty nice build!

So upon purchasing a few acrylics , (createx and testors ) I found that createx are really great paints to use straight from the bottle! They didn't require any thinning, and are easy to apply on car bodies. The paint comes out somewhat flat , but once cleared looks like a beauty! Testors bottle acrylics on the other hand are not good for body's, but useful for small details. The paint doesn't lay down smooth, I think it's thinned too much of the factory. It doesn't stick like createx, createx has a thicker consistency. Luckily enough thick viscosity to not have to thin and dry every stage .i recommend createx wicked color acrylics !

Painting and paint fumes question
ERIK88 replied to ERIK88's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
thanks for the tips! I am definitely not using the silver metallic coats anymore lol. Oh and yea the smell is not too bad but I don't want to be inhaling any vapors that are harmful to the respiratory and nervous system. I can feel the buzz from being around those vapors. Maybe I need more ventilation, I have a respirator that works really well but that smell goes thru the entire house. I don't have a basement yet. Maybe I should wait until I have a basement to paint lol -
Painting and paint fumes question
ERIK88 replied to ERIK88's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hey thanks a lot for your responses, I kinda figured the silver coat was useless. I'm going to use a regular white or grey primer from now on, then shoot the metallic paint. i think I'm Going to give acrylics a try. -
ok so My question to you guys is why do some people use a primer and metallic or silver coat before shooting a metallic color? Wouldn't it be best to just get a smooth primer finish of maybe white and then your metallic color?. The reason I ask is because I experimented with this procedure and use a metallic silver over primer, however the surface did not come out as smooth as primer. Metallic silver cannot be sanded like regular paints, so I sprayed a duplicolor metallic blue over it, I could see the rough texture as I imagined it would be since the paint is not going over smooth sand able primer. My question is can I just do a white primer, and then a metallic? . question number two is , I'm really trying to find a different alternative than using these really strong toxic lacquers of spraybombs . The smell doesn't go away from the house as fast, what's the difference between using these and using createx or regular acrylic colors that I could shoot thru my spray Gun? I know the gloss spray cans , enamels, or lacquers give is irrelevant since the shine goes away when you wet sand the orange peel that often develops from painting final coats. I usually wet sand with fine grit , and clearcoat , Polish. That's mainly where I bring the shine on the body. What do you guys think about createx paints or acrylic paints? Have many of you guys replaced lacquers , enamels to use acrylics? If so can some please send pictures of the end results. It just makes a lot of sense to not use toxic paints when not necessary. Lol

Are model kits making a comeback? What gives?
ERIK88 replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can almost guarantee it someone else could probably say the same for your statement of remaining active vs not. Some other individual would express another variable that is most important to him/ her. Human behavior , it never fails to amaze me . One question for you is, so are you stating people were not eating more than they need in the 60s 70s? If so , why not? It would be interesting to see if it was because of less automation maybe in the manual labor fields ? Maybe more factory, general labor, semi skilled and skilled trades which requires a person to stay active as opposed to this digital age/ service industry we are currently in now which requires hardly any manual labor ? Where more people working out outside of work in the 60s 70s? If so, is there concrete data that proves this? -
