Model kit subject builders block
ERIK88 replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Your right, I think too many choices might be part of the problem haha. It's always best to have a kit you've been wanting more often than not I always say, you never know when that specific hobby store will close down, or the model Gets discontinued, causing for prices to climb on places like eBay or Amazon. -
Model kit subject builders block
ERIK88 replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never thought about creating a datatabase for building ideas, kits, parts, and engines to swap from different kits. Maybe I should start doing the same! quote name="Greg Myers" post="1418180" timestamp="1430664298"]I think he's on to something. I have a small loose leaf note book I keep building ideas in, including Kits needed, parts , wheels, tires , engines and from what kits they're in. -
Do you guys ever have it were you have about 3 or possibly more kits of that one car you like a lot, yet as you look at your collection you aren't attracted to build? As you look around for other choices, you only see maybe one or two you would build at that time? But then the next few days pass, or weeks and you regain appreciation for the kits you weren't exactly feeling at the moment? The subject type tastes changes for me as well, I was recently coming up with ideas for lowriders, now I'm looking at trucks in my stash lol.

Old kits never die, they just get better... : 66 Galaxie convertible

Old kits never die , they just multiply lol hey nice build -
Your collection looks a lot like mine lol. I hardly build due to lack of time and space , but I love the ability to have an extensive collection of diff subjects. I plan on building someday, but happy to know I have them at my disposal. Besides the most I've ever paid for a kit is $15. I have accumulated my collection over the past 3 years , but I know that these kits are worth $5-10 more It's kinda like buying groceries. You don't want to go to the cupboard and NOT find something to eat. Now do you?

really nice mustang, I like the extra details put into it. I love foxbody's. did you paint the coil springs black? where can I find this bead wire?
-
Ill tell ya though, when I do feel guilty, and im sure some you guys dont agree on this one, is when I have 4-5 kits in process of building, and never get finished! that to me for some reason is a waste of kit and $$$$$! It really bugs me when people do that, I cant start something and not finish it!. I have a set rule that I will only work with 2 kits at a time max !. Assuming that one is drying off, while another one is getting put together.

I know exactly how you guys feel. I've acquired over 200 models since i started back in into this hobby however, due to my living circumstances (not enough room in the house to set shop) i have only been able to build 2 or 3 models a year. I really don't let it bother me much, I know that I do not plan on selling the kits ever, and plan on building each one of them. I know that the time to build will come eventually. Models tend to appreciate in value, so there isn't much of a monetary loss anyway!. Its always great to snatch a model that might be out of production eventually, In which one might pay 2x 3x down the line. I do enjoy looking at my collection, and get a euphoric feeling every time I stare at those kits, untouched, thinking of all the build possibilities. I do know that my skills were getting quite good at my fourth build, but just like anything else, If you do not use it, you lose it!. Oh well, I might start off again with some old amt corvette models. I believe everything is good in moderation, there has to be an equal balance, I would not let any hobby interfere with my personal life, or career. I have seen this happen to a lot of people, sometimes it is hard to let go. I set certain time limits that I am going to spend building models, and stop after Ive reached that limit, although I have deviated from that set limit if I am in the middle of a body paint job!. Besides, I have to allow time for making beer and astronomy! I have learned quite a lot about the night sky, recently obtained a huge telescope!

So I quite often hear tamiya spray can is the best to do black paint jobs with, why is that so? I'm curious? That and prep wrk goes a lo way of course . If I was to use duplicolor will I get a good paint job or results? What if I was to use cheap walmart $1 spray can ?

Bench Time = Therapy
ERIK88 replied to MsDano85gt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I build I guess I get In the "zone", everything seems to erase out of my mind temporarily , if the tv is on radio, or someone is talking that seems to go off, my mind is just focused on that one task, and I cans spend hrs working on a model. Oh yea , and no time for any drinks lol, I'll end up forgetting about them,. -
thanks a lot guys for the tips! All of your ideas are great!

I'll definitely shoot Greg wann a pm. That body looks way nicer compare to revells stubby weird body! . I am a huge Foxbody mutang fan, but have not purchased this kit because of the obvious mistakes. I prob would have bought 3 of these already.

How do you guys build a booth to take pictures of model cars? Do you use white paper? Lol
-
very nice build!, i am a huge foxbody fan, looks like my 92 convertible in many ways. Saleen wheels makes foxbodys look really nice. Where can I get a copy of the resin mustang ?

-
Very nice builds , I love the el camino and the zingers
-
Thanks, this one was suppose to be all stock with original make shark wheels, however a rim was missing upon opening the sealed kit. Very nice ! I love the paint on the Mako Shark , don't see many of those any more !
-
Here are my two builds for 2014 . The corvette was a fast kit I built over the 4th of July weekend, and the 1988 el camino was another Kit I built over the summer. The corvette is all stock besides the pegasus tri blade rims, and the el camino has a wired engine, revell older issue lowrider rims with whitewalls added by a white gelly roll pen. I also added a bonus pic! Revell 93 mustang gt From a 2013 build lol.

Really interesting! It's funny I usually call It done when I find I'm doing more bad than good to a model. For example, a glue smudge on a nicely painted body or glass! It's funny I usually leave tne license plate the last item to complete the model.
