  1. These are def stickers, I built one of these with my step daughter , pretty nice kit. I remember building this one back in 2000, the added chrome rims and brake discs are a plus . She built it way better than I did, that's for sure. The actual body surprisingly has a good gloss to it , compared to the one I first had.
  2. Building this one into a lowrider. The lowrider scene is what got me into this hobby, back when lindberg sold it's jumping dancing red impala boxed kit, along with the purple lowrider van and others. I still have barely any room to build , but took out the bare essentials needed to build this one like e dehydrator and paint booth. Hopefully it gets finished in a few days . One question for you guys , does the chrome trim around the bed of this el camino apply for all Camino, or can I skip this part?
  3. grandma is in for the ride of her life.... lol nice car , love the color, i just love novas with dogdish hubcaps
  4. Nice watermarks........

  10. looks like it will be coming in the mail pretty soon, looking forward to it
  11. Has any one built this kit? It looks like a nice kit. I like the lines of this t bird.
  12. Then again, I hardly have any kit in my stash I don't wanna build. I don't buy kits I don't like, 90s nascar kit are the ones I'm mainly talking about
  13. Any kits I would avoid building have either been given away , scrapped for parts, blown up on or around the fourth on July with firecrackers (body's at least) lol or traded. No point in building a kit that's going to cost time and resources that can go to other kits .
  14. Tilt camber looks good specially know adays . Seems like everyone is doing it on their 1/1's
  15. Very nice model, looks very clean. I like the yellow paint job. Nice stance and choice of tires
  16. Idk out of my collection of kits I don't think I have spent more than $15 on a kit. Anything in the $20 range I normally don't buy. I've acquired 200+ models in the past 2 yrs. I have the disposable income to buy the $20-28 range kits, but I just cannot see the value for my dollar at that price point. I grew up during the late 90s and early 2000s, we're kits were at any walmart $10 bucks a piece , and at your local toys r us for almost free (amt kits) 5-8 bucks when on clearance, big lots for $8 bucks, and at kb toys for dirt cheap. I miss those days, everything now is so expensive. The youth of today cannot do much with their allowances, unless the parents have been keeping up with inflation haha . I use to get a lot of stuff with a $10 weekly allowance, one week would be for a kit, the other for supplies. Now a kid with the same allowance has to save for two weeks and a half, give or take, excluding paint which is now $5 for a can of spray paint. Testors small 1/2 ounce or whatever paints were .75 cents, now they are 1.25 - 1.75!
  17. Corvette came out looking great! I have this one in the stash , it's good to know the end results
  18. Hobby knives, sandpaper is a must diff grits, glue zap a gap or gorilla glue, masking tape tamiya diff sizes, putty or bondo, spraypaint tamiya revell duplicolor etc. , flocking, dehydrator, blow drier, pin vise.
  19. You make a good point there, I think many kits get over looked if they are not glossy enough. It must also be remembered that machines with no soul are producing these die cast models. I think many builders should remember that when we build a kit it is from our imagination, from our own bare hands that these cars get built, not some random machine or factory worker who did the work for you, and all that's left is to display a model in which you did not take any involvement at all in its building process. A kit is a work of art, more valuable than any Danbury mint or higher end die cast to me, as it often tells a story or brings you to a specific time of the builder, and what they were trying to portray or express via model kit. I appreciate the gloss of die cast, I hope one day I can get close, but for now practice will do like people have mentioned earlier. I do respect the paint quality of die cast, and created this thread to possibly hear from some of the more higher skilled or old time builders that the same quality of paint job is somewhat achievable and that it was not just because of the difference in materials being used, ( metal vs. plastic ). I kinda doubt the thread starter was referring to the high end die cast you are talking about Harry. That also brings up another point. Out of scale shininess. A lot of the cars done in diecast are much shinier that the 1:1 vehicle they represent. I believe many people are afflicted with the "Oh look, SHINY!" syndrome. I have seen plenty of excellent models get over looked for models that were so shiny look like they were dipped in shellac or had a bunch of aftermarket parts thrown at it...but that's a story for a different day.
  20. How come die cast cars seem to have a deeper shine than regular plastic model cars? This does not convince me to collect die cast , I chose plastic anytime over metal but why do paint jobs on metal shine more?
  21. Nice chevelle love the paint and interior . I have a few dry transfers from shabo. Hope they set as neat as yours
  22. Nice looking crown Vic , although I am not too much if a fan of real police cars.....
  23. Very nice clean build! But have to stick with black! Lol
  24. Die cast cars look rather toyish to me, 1/18 scale doesn't do it for me. There's something especial about building your own kit, and taking pride in it.
  25. Lets see for me on average $25 per build on resources 10 kits= $250 lol now if he wants super detail, we are talking several hundreds $$
