purple power wrked great for me took all paint off
-
Can it be reused after stripping a model car or two in it? When is it time to get more?
-
oh ok, sounds good, oh yea and by far gloss black paint seems to be the most challenging of all ive done so far. (coming back from a 6 yr break when I use to not care as much and build fast lol)
-
Oh on very interesting info, I guess I was missing out on color sanding . For example right now I painted a 32 ford gloss black, let dry then wet sand the gloss paint job with 3,000 grit so it cleans up any imperfections, paint over it again. Along with the other steps with the clear and polish. Thanks a lot . Oh and I hope u don't mind me asking another question, what can happen if I paint when it's really humid out?
-
I understand to sand prime then sand and prime , sand then lay down a few coats of paint , And let dry , then buff, and polish then lay down clear. but my question is what is this method I hear about wet sanding while the paint has been layer down and completed ? Following a polish ?

in the late 90's Bill ran a truck team, not sure what year,or how many races. Ido know it was sponsored by McDonalds with Ron Barfield as the driver, although Bill himself ran some races.Does anybody have pics of his truck or know where to find some?

If I dug deep enough, I have a picture somewhere of the #94 Super 8 truck up on stands with no wheels on it in Elliott's shop when my dad took me down for a fan club event and I have a racing champions diecast of the #4 ASE truck that has Bills name above the window

I have a black and white handout of the truck. It is sponsored by Super 8 and although it's hard to tell but it looks like the truck was simply all black. I am running out of time on the computer tonight but tomorrow when I get home from work I will scan the image and post it here.

I had forgotten about the black one! I think I might have the 1/64 of that truck too

Found 'em!! I have no idea when these were taken. I assume 96-97ish by the other photos of the #94 car's that were in the shop. It was a fan club open house and dad drove me all the way down to GA to check everything out. They had a little bit of everything in there. They had Barfield's #94 New Holland Busch car, a #94 ARCA car that looks just like the truck, and of course, the truck. Dont have a scanner so I did the photo of a photo trick. I cant tell if this is a raced truck or not. It does have white marks on the pipes (which means nothing) and red tape on the lower grille and all over the front valance so there is a possibility. This truck could easily be pulled off, only things I can see you would need besides a Elliott sheet would be the large super 8 logo for the hood and Ron's name which is in simple cursive, no fancy signature and I'm sure some of the decal guys on the board could make them. Hope these help

On another note, I was digging around some more and came upon the '97 Nascar Press and Pass guide. Found out that the #94 truck was ran 7 times in 1996 and Bill drove the #4 ASE truck in the '96 finale
3/17/96 Homestead (Florida Dodge Dealers 400) 4th place
4/21/96 Phoenix (Chevrolet Desert Star Classic 300) 8th
5/4/96 Portland (Craftsman 200) 11th
5/11/96 Evergreen (Jerr-Dan/Nelson Truck Equipment 200) 9th
7/6/96 Milwaukee (Sears Auto Center 200) 28th
10/26/96 Phoenix (GM Goodwrench/Delco Battery 300) 27th
11/3/96 Las Vegas (Carquest 420 K) 19th
and Bill ran the Vegas race in the #4 ASE and brought it home in 2nd
Maybe this will help you locate some photos since you now know the races

Thanks for those images Jose. Now I can take an extra set of numbers from a Mac Tonight decal set and combine with the Slixx ASE decals and come up with another Bill Elliott build.

Wow, I thought I had an eye for detail and you picked out the white roof # from the little bit you can see......Amazing, I had no idea that car was run @ the finale. I checked my '97 model and it has a yellow roof number. So I can say I never knew that. I was a huge Elliott fan and have a PILE of misc items from diecast all the way to his business card when we stopped @ his car dealership. They showed me the conference room with the big mural painted on the wall, I believe it was of one of the red Coors cars. Great childhood memories of great times with my dad. All my collection is packed up and stored in totes, if you are interested in any of it, PM me.......Sorry for hijacking

These are all the shop pictures I can find from the visit to Elliott's. There could possibly be more, if so, they are not with these in this binder.
This is the rest of the photo with the finale car (probably only shot I have of this car)
Random '96 car
'96 Talladega wreck car, what was left of it after they stripped it all
Barfield's Super 8 ARCA car
Only picture I could find from Ernie's engine shop. I have used this reference for colors and wiring on all my mid to late 90's Elliott builds
I think there is 1 or 2 more from the engine/parts room but I'll really have to dig. This engine photo could also be used in building the truck as I'm sure Ernie supplied engines to this team as well. I have more mid 90's teams shop photos if anyone is interested, I can PM them, I have a few shots of the Kranefus-Hass #37 Lincoln test ride as well in purple /orange trim

nice build, came out nice, ur making me thinkabout using the box wheels now lol. I have a couple myself a impala bubbletop and bel air bubbletop
-
Sorry for late response but thanks guys I am using purple power right now and I will use krylon for plastic , I think the regular paint spray from krylon was too ht or something, the paint almost appeared sweaty bubbly and uneven .
-
It sucks to have to strip the paint from both models, does anyone recommend anything else other than brake fluid to strip paint by the way ?
-
I was wondering if any of you guys have had this problem , it is my second Time trying to use krylon gloss black spray paint on a model car on top of primer and the paint is coming on horribly , very unusual. I've never ha d this problem with any other krylon paints , is this not good on model cars ? What other gloss black is recommended?
-
Thanks , and thanks to the guys who gave some eference on diff paintjobs available on this one. I remember seen a few just like this on the streets.
-
nice model car , nice paint job/ colorcombo I always am almost close to buying a fiero kit but never do, after seeing this one I think I will go for it
-
thanks, sure appreciate all the builds on here . It has given me much knowledge and inspiration, hopefully I can get to the level of mastery as many of you guys out here, many have amazing work. I like to build to the point where its presentable, decent, and still have fun at the same time. When it does stop being fun... its time wrap it up! and get on to a new project.

Oh no it's not Jason c I sure wish it was though, I love Buick gnx's

Forgive me as I am a senior citizen who has just discovered computer technology and been hiding in a cave for the last 20 years. i have this wonderful alien technology device called a iphone 5 in which might have possibly caused the multiple threads. Lol, the more I use this website, the more unpleasant experience I get from it. Very interesting characters out here, must be cause I'm the new kid on the block
-
Nice paint job, nice clean unique rat rod look.. Love the wheels as well.
-
This is my next project!!! Looks like I won't be needed all that extra plastic next to the box pic oh and yes I will keep building ponies I have been wanting to build the amt 71 Mach 1, sitting in my closet! but giving myself some practice and saving the best for last, the 92 mustang is only my third build from a 8yr break.

This is a revell 92 ford mustang gt, it was a ok kit , easy build for the most part, though somewhat simplistic. It has minor added details like flocking and aftermarket rims. The hard part was getting the correct stance and fitting the wheels to not pop out as if was a lowrider version. I just need to install battery cables, otherwise comments are welcomed good or bad

was your introduction to modeling at home?
yes, I actually did not now anything about model building until i met my stepfather at about 6yrs old back in '94. My stepfather was into model aircrafts, and would get a model airplane for himself and I every week as a weekend activity. He would talk about all the different parts and give me a little bit of history of each one, and its capabilities. He loved military aircraft in real life, and always wished he got a chance to be a pilot (he worked at a bindery company, which is related to Quad Graphics, a hugely respectable, popular, printing company here in Wisconsin). I never had a father figure in my life, until then. I never knew or met such a cool guy like him, or some male that dedicated much time with me as well. I was just amazed at the level of detail from kits, compared to a regular toy i would play with at the time. Model building gave me a sense of accomplishment, and felt proud of what I had built. I always needed his help and supervision until I reached 12 (year 2000). I started building models by myself a lot more, and gave a shot at a few aircraft. I was fascinated by muscle cars, and lowriders, classics however, that I would see cruising the streets, with their neon lighting on the undercarriage, and loud stereo systems with a nice pair of daytons and shiny paint. I would always appreciate those cars and the time put into them. My love for vehicles had really kicked off, my dad had a thing for classic vehicles as well, but not anywhere as near his love for military aircraft. We would go to classic car shows, talk about different engines, he would work on his car, fix anything wrong with it, (we had a 96 Ford Probe manual, a Chevy astro van explorer custom limited edition, 96 ford blazer, 96 Chevy silverado during those times). He was a Chevy guy, and never went back to buying a Ford, ever since that Ford Probe lol, maybe thats why I have never owned a Ford . I would love riding my bike and watching him fix his car, and seeing how similar some parts were to the ones Ive built in 1:24th scale. I knew the names of many parts, and knew what he would be talking about to his friends or at autoshops. It came to the point where I could name every car on the street at the time, just by looking at the body styling. I have built many cars, of which are very rarer to find now. I wish I would have bought more of those certain kits, I would have never guessed how expensive they would have gotten, and how shocked I was when Wal Mart suddenly didn't have an isle for them, and stop carrying them completely around the mid 2000s. My love for building model cars stopped drastically around 16 yrs of age (2004), I began to start dating girls in high school, and trying to be growned up. Never would I dare tell kids at my school, I build model cars or they would have laughed at me. Everyone was into video games however, and so was I. The video gaming sector was going through a big change, introducing systems that allowed you to do many things never achievable in past systems. The graphics were unbelievable at the time, very realistic, and provided many iconic games such as Grand Theft Auto, where you could now get out of the vehicles you drove, drive around this huge open city, and have open missions, get inside buildings , etc. and online capabilities. I was instantly hooked, became a mad gamer, and looked at model car building as a thing of the past. I eventually overcame this phase however when the Xbox 360 came out, I realized that new games were being released, but it was all just doing the same thing, similar missions, over and over or killing each other on each game, with just better graphics of course.I eventually got bored, and stopped playing altogether, unless its Mario kart, or Madden 13. I came back to the hobby just this recent year, as i discovered they actually had websites strictly for model car building. I currently work in a call center, in which I would spend a lot of time on this website on my downtime. I got inspired by many of the great builds here, and the knowledge Ive gained just from reading the different threads. The First model built recently into the hobby was a revell 70 chevelle, I plan to build many more, and I am not embarrassed or shy of it lol, I also have a girlfriend who is very acceptable to this hobby, she says it keeps me in the house! and out of trouble.I am always looking for bargains, as models are not $10 anymore like they used to be, and never pay full retail price now. I primarily love building classic vehicles from the 50's to 80's, not so much into modern car building.
-
cool ! thanks, that sure helps a lot. I think Im going to go with bright red/black interior.
How long. Does purple power last for?
