new missing link 1965 buick wildcat!
ToyLvr replied to kevin's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I'm assuming the the windshields from the AMT '66 Wildcat will fit this '65 copy. Does anyone know of any other Kit sources that would provide the necessary glass? My guess is that certain full-sized Olds or Pontiacs (maybe Chevy, too?) of that era might share the same windshield. [ And before everyone starts saying "try Modelhaus", let me mention that I don't want to wait for weeks and weeks to get the parts ] -
I got a new central air conditioning system installed in my home today. The old one died on Monday, during one of the hottest weeks of the year. So much for my hobby budget....

66 Continental Gluebomb Restoration Added 1:1, 9/2/14

It's got my vote! I like all of your projects - you do great work. My rich uncle had the 1:1 back in the 60s when I was a kid. I was absolutely amazed by the "suicide" doors. ;-) -
My old lady likes to go on the "World's Longest Yardsale" trek every summer. It usually follows old US Route 127 from Michigan all the way south to Alabama. We live in the Cincinnati area, so she jumps in around there and travels down through most of Kentucky. I personally don't like this sort of thing; walking around in August heat & humidity isn't what I call fun (especially with my health problems), but my wife just loves it, so I stay home and let her do the shopping. I have spent years educating her on how to tell old original kits vs reissued, etc, etc. She has found a "bargain" kit for me virtually every year she has gone on this wild goose chase. Of course, if you take into consideration the cost of gas, etc., not so sure it's a bargain. Probably the best thing found in recent years was an original-issue Monogram '41 Lincoln Continental kit (circa1967), primo unbuilt, $5 bucks. I love those old "classics", so I was really pleased. So, even if you don't like yardsales, or don't have time to waste, educate your family and let them do the shopping for you! :-)

Not nearly as funky as the "Crusader 101" by Deluxe-Reading that I have in my collection. Looks like a cross between a '65 Caddy and an Imperial.

It appears that I have a "Marx" toy. It's pretty much as Frank & Danno described it See additional photos for your amusement.

Picked up this '53 Chrysler Windsor. I'm not sure if it was a kit, or a toy, but it's definitely styrene plastic. I'd say it's about 1/16 scale. Has opening hood and trunk, and the trunk contains a jack plus various tools. A neat little replica of a car that you don't see very often....

I'm looking to get in touch with John Piotrowsky "Poncho Pio". Not sure if he's even been on this forum, but figured that some of you guys may have heard of him and done business with him in the past. I understand that he manufactured some really good Pontiac resin stuff. My direct e-mail is ToyLvr_2000@Yahoo.com Thanks! Mike Adams

Q: Why don't snakes bite lawyers? A: Professional courtesy.... ;-) (corny joke provided by a friend of mine who's a lawyer) BTW, I went to the local HL recently, and suffered no ill effects other than my wallet losing weight after passing the discount aisle.

I have a resin '69 convertible body that I got off of evil-bay years ago. I think it was from Missing Link??? Nicely done, came with correct boot and set-up for opening hood. As others have commented, I really wish that AMT would reissue their pre-'65 Corvairs....

Had to share CARpet
ToyLvr replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My grandson has a similar one at home. He would go nuts if my car had that for its carpet. We have a hard enough time getting him to stay in his car seat! -
I'm really looking forward to this reissue. The last time that I came across an original for sale, the guy wanted $200! That's more than most of my 1:1 Corvairs cost me in years past. ;-) Scott's (unclescott) comments are pretty well on the money regarding the Corvair's demise. The Mustang did it. For about the same $$$ as the Corvair, a red-blooded American kid could get a Mustang with a V-8. Most would choose the V-8 vs the pancake six; it's a no-brainer. Otherwise, both had a pleasant body style and bucket seats, etc. Ironically, the Mustang was Ford's knee-jerk reaction to the sporty Corvair "Monza", and the Camaro was GM's reaction to Iaccoca's Mustang V-8. I've been fortunate to have owned nearly 40 different Corvairs since I was 15 years old (and have driven many, many more). Had at least one (1) of every model year and body style - even a '66 coupe with an SBC mounted midship! Drove them all the time, in all sorts of weather, and even raced a few. Never had a single one exhibit a tendency to flip over, although the pre-1964 units without rear sway bars could get a little "loose". I feel sorry for any of the families that might have had loved ones injured or killed in a Corvair back in the day, but I think these drivers really had to be hanging it out there on the edge. My experience with the Corvair is such that I found it to be as safe-handling and predictable as any other car of that era which I've driven. I lump all of this anti-Corvair hysteria in the same category as the hoopla that we experienced a few years ago with the Ford Bronco/Explorer trucks and their tire "situation", and the similar thing with the Suzuki "Samarai" SUV. ANY car/truck which is driven in a stupid manner and beyond its design limitations can get the driver into trouble... You want to know the design flaws in a Corvair that really will kill you? 1) the heat system which draws hot air off of the exhaust manifolds (like old VWs). The manifold "donut" gaskets had a tendency to go bad and allow CO2 into the car (as well as oil fumes from leaky pushrod tube O-Rings); 2)rear axle bearings on the pre-1965 units. The bearing could experience a catastrophic failure, and the axle would pull right out of transaxle on the highway. As the wheel/axle exited out the side of the car, it usually destroyed the rear brakes in the process. Since these early Corvairs all had a single master cylinder brake system, this would cause the loss of ALL of the brake fluid in the system, meaning No Brakes! Oh well, 40 years later I'm still driving Corvairs, and still alive to tell about it!

What did you see on the road today?

Followed this one to the local cruise-in. Nice looking paint job on this '55 Chevy. However, there's something a bit "off" about it.... -

Ray: Modelhaus is now offering a resin kit of a '67 Corvair 4-door. I bought one; it's really nice. -

I have an unbuilt original issue of this kit available, which should address all of your issues ;-) (except for the guys who want to complaint about how the original design of the kit was BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, out-of-scale, etc etc)

Tom: Been following this project and really like. Just by coincedence, at a recent car show in my area, I came across an attempt to build the real thing. See attached photos...

Ron has obviously been breathing a lot of glue fumes.....but I like it!

I've used it, too, with a good outcome. I used automotive primer for the base coat. It's been a couple months since I sprayed the last batch of parts, and no signs of crazing, melting, or any of the other horror stories I've been seeing posted on the net. I'm building a '62 Chevy Bel Air, and trying to replicate a "Fawn" colored interior. Krylon Fusion paint called "River Rock" was the closest I've seen to the GM color (at least to my aging eyes). Like someone else mentioned, there are a lot of interesting colors available in the "Fusion" lineup.
