  1. By the way, I do have 7 of the small window Pete's. One pristine and 6 that need to be de-painted, de-unglued (tube glue... yuk).
  2. LOL. I needed to laugh tonight Ben, thanks. And also thanks for the parts. I have all the wheels and tires ready to go on, just need 4 2-hole rims and the decals. Let me know the price okay?
  3. I love old Mack trucks also. good looking rebuild!
  4. added headlights and did some fine tuning. now just waiting on minipl8's decals and modeltrucking decals and then on to the weathering, my favorite part of model building. I know the breather on the right side is the vertical one but will put a horizontal one on my next 281. I built the horizontal one last night.
  5. that's what I thought also and it looks to maybe be a logging truck. I don't understand what that bar beneath the frame is for either, then again I'm not a trucker.
  6. Can someone ID what year and model this Pete is? Thinking about building one.
  7. this eBayer is 58Mackb61t. same guy?
  8. thanks much. waiting now on minipl8's for the license plate decals and also from Jerry at modeltrucking for the decals on the cab and trailer, then weather this beast and take a vacation!!!
  9. Thanks Ben. I also got that group off eBay from you a few days ago.
  10. thank you. I also stopped by a truck stop this morning and a nice trucker let me take pics of the fuel lines from the tanks to all points.
  11. Thanks Ben, your wheels go on this rig
  12. It's a Cummins NTC 350 Richard.
  13. Can anyone help me find any diagrams for gas line plumbing on these big rigs? I've searched Google and SAE sites but can't find what I want or need. trying to finish up my Pete tractor. I have all the air lines done but not gas lines.
  14. Thank you Kostas. Close to being able to weather this beast, and that is the part I always love. I like dirty trucks and dirty drill rigs.
  15. You may be surprised at this but I did not use my airbrush for the paint application. I went to the local hobby store and bought 2 cans of Tamiya Red Brown and 2 cans of Wooden Deck Tan and laid down a first coat of red brown, let that dry, then added an overspray of tan and kept building coats up until I got what I thought was a nice last coat of paint. Your right tho, there are so many variations in coloring and so many ideas on what the actual color was, you really can't go wrong with a close match. I got a model in yesterday (1928 Lincoln) and today will start working on the headlight attachment points. I will rebuild those since the Pete kit is not the right shape (too fat) and will start wiring and some plumbing also. I did not do the butterfly hood on this model. Couldn't get small enough hinges so I took another old kit and narrowed the hood and used that instead. I will build another tractor tho and it will have a working butterfly hood. Also the Cat air cleaner on the right side is the upright version but the original tractor in the movie had the horizontal one. That will also be corrected on the next tractor build since I built the horizontal one last night. All in all I'm pleased with this version. I really wish I had the trailer cast in resin and could use the molds later for other rigs but live and learn.
  16. I'm a fairly patient man, his decals I've seen look awesome
  17. we made contact with each other. since he works full time he said it may be awhile before he could do them. but I sent pics with measurements needed so now it's a matter of his time.
  18. Does anyone know of someone who can make specific decals not found in any model kits? I'm looking to have them made for my Duel Trailer. Thanks
  19. good looking Bison. where did you get the 5 hole Budd's? I need a 'few' for a truck trailer I'm working on now.
  20. Happy New Year from a cold wet middle Tennessee folks.
  21. Art, I remember being a 13 year old kid taking one of mom's sewing needles, holding it over a flame and 'drilling' holes where spark plugs go and yep, used her same black thread to simulate spark plug wires. We grow steadily with that experience and also by looking at how other modelers do their work. Modeling should be fun whether we enter contests or just for ourselves. I've had people look at my drill rigs and old trucks and ask me many questions on how I did this or that. I answered each and every question so the next generation could build on my experience. I'm not the greatest builder and don't aspire to be a great builder, just a modeler going an extra step with each new model. And like Art says, if you can't inspire then don't criticize just for the sake of criticizing, that hurts feelings and may stop that person from becoming a good addition to our hobby. But critique with the intent of making that person a better modeler and also a better person for the next generation.
  22. Yep build what you want and how you want. Slowly you gain experience with a skill set, paint application, how you go about intricate details whatever. I went to the Murfreesboro show 2 years ago, entered one of my 99% scratch built drill rigs but this guy who bought a scale model of a bluegill fish won. Why? maybe because his modeling buddies liked his fish better or maybe because the way his airbrushed application of paint made that model really look like an actual mounted fish. It was awesome to say the least. But his skill was great. Aftermarket companies provide things that modelers need or just want like tool manufacturers do. What would we do without the good old Xacto knife? Those aftermarket companies provide services and also they help feed their family or their bank account. either way we use them. I build things no one else builds or at least I haven't seen lately. Just build what you want and how you want and don't fret over what other modelers do with their time or money. The modeling community is a great place with good people in it. Some are expert builders, some are average but we all build something and most of us don't criticize others for what they use or what they put on a model. I get just as much enjoyment looking at a model with so much detail in it because I know that modeler loves his work. And I also enjoy looking at a teenagers work, that sometimes leaves a lot to be desired and yet that teenager built something he or she was proud of. If we teach rather than fault, that modeler becomes better. And we should not criticize them for their joy. I'm just a modeler who likes plastic.
