  1. ask any NASCAR model builder if they can do without aftermarket or photo etch stuff. they can't and won't. I use all Evergreen when I build from scratch and also brass rod. I never use photo etch things. I try to make what I need. I just enjoy the idea of creating something with my own hands. And skill first with basic build techniques always makes a better model IMO.
  2. here's the latest incarnation. I rebuilt the side mirrors as the original kit part was way too fat. waiting on a 1927 Lincoln roadster to get in so I can ad the front headlights. Originally I was going to do a butterfly hood but couldn't find small enough piano hinges so this will have to wait for the next build of this same tractor. yep I know, but this vehicle is so interesting to build. waiting on some more 5 hole Budd wheels to finish off the rubber. I'll bring this to the Cookeville show and enter it. I haven't weathered any of the vehicle yet. will do that when all the little things are attached and done. Building this entire vehicle is and was a nightmare at times but I'll for sure do the tractor again later after my blood pressure settles back down. By the way, the cab is not glued to the frame yet, I merely set in on it to see the look and take these pics.
  3. Oh boy will the world change now. LOL. Congrats tho and wish the very best.
  4. I used to live in S. Knoxville, now live in Lebanon, TN. I'll be at the Cookeville show in March also. Hope to have my Duel truck and trailer done by then and also will be entering my drill rig in that show.
  5. I wish there was an aftermarket for this truck. I'm building the Duel tractor now myself. By the way check your messages, I sent one about your Oshkosh truck the other day.
  6. Rest in Peace Chuck
  7. I built my Fruehauf trailer with Evergreen .020 and it holds up well. Doing the bulkheads and ribbing takes time but to me anyway a lot more satisfaction in doing that than getting PVC piping.
  8. Jim, IF you can find the piano hinge in lengths of maybe 2" and either 1/8 or 1/4" that would be fine. Those I did find in Knoxville TN years ago were in lengths of 4" but haven't found any like that since. And Skip, I don't have an image from the Duel truck that shows the top of the hood where the hinge shows. Seems like all you'll find on the net are side views and front/rear views of that tractor. I don't believe the hinge shows on top of the hood down the centerline anyway. And thanks for any help at all, appreciated
  9. Sorry Jim. I need this style that's no larger than 1/4" wide or even 1/8" wide and it can be 6" long. I usually cut them down to the correct length.
  10. Same here Skip. I bought the one shown here from a doll house place down close to west Town Mall many years ago and haven't found anymore since then.
  11. This is what I'm looking for and the doll house stores around Nashville don't carry this kind or size.
  12. Does anyone know where I can get miniature hinges that are 1/4" wide or even smaller? I've tried HobbyLobby, Michaels Arts and Crafts, and even Micro Mark but all their hinges are way too big. trying to finish up my Duel tractor with butterfly hood.
  13. looks like a lot of dry brushing after the initial coating of paint.
  14. this is kens V8 Detroit Diesel. I sent him a message on eBay asking for his email address so I'll post that as soon as I get it. My faux pas for not doing this earlier and thanks to whomever moved this to the appropriate topic area. This is Ken's email address for anyone wanting to contact him, his resin casts are really clean also. he has the DD and an in-line 6 cylinder on eBay now. kenscustoms@earthlink.net
  15. I don't know if any of you guys know this or not but there is a guy in Illinois who makes some really fine resin cast engines. One is the Detroit diesel and another is a 6-71. He's also thinking about making an ISB engine. So if anyone is interested check his stuff out. It's really nice. he has one on eBay also. Just an FYI folks.
  16. I got a few of the ones that were on the 281 Pete from Dave at AITM last week.
  17. yep, I've done the Hobby Lobby and Michael's Arts and crafts doll house area looking for small hinges myself.
  18. I can't figure out what that is scummy. I got some hood latches from AITM that are the correct ones. Thanks anyway
  19. yep. My ex wife was a professional paper hanger and used that all the time. Also check out art supply stores in the printing areas.
  20. thanks. I kept bouncing back and forth between the original truck and the last surviving tanker. Only wish there had been more details on the undercarriage of the tanker as I've seen a few models that had NO frame and no pics of the frame anywhere on the net. So the undercarriage is a lot of guess work and what it might look like. In actual scale I may be off by 6" in 1/25th scale but I could care less. This thing was a beast to build. Luckily that 12'x24" evergreen really helped out as only 1 sheet completely wrapped around the tanker. Would I do this again? NO WAY! I also thought about doing a resin cast of the tanker before I added the sides but gave that idea up.
  21. your correct CDA. I was using a very old set of AMT instructions and they had things wrong so I started with a new set of instructions and got it the right way.
  22. well finally the tanker trailer is done. between the original one in the first movie and the second one I kinda got lost on actual details of each but hopefully this does the job at least for me. I'm sure there will be areas that are different and that I expect but this was a heck of a job in and of itself. Now on to the cab which was an eBay junkyard buy and I'll never get another junkyard item off eBay. LOL.The one I bought the guy must have used the old tube glue. Hope to have this done in time for the Cookeville, TN show. The cab will have a functioning butterfly hood also.
  23. yep, evilbay for sure. I have noticed also within the last month or so AMT Peterbilt T-500 kits suddenly appearing and going for astronomically prices. ROG will probably do that also.
  24. got the sides for the boxes done tonight. gonna have to take a break tho, this one tired me out getting all the angles and cuts right plus dimensions correct.
  25. I think this is the same guy I bought a resin engine from off eBay for 50 bucks and the quality is great!!
