Tanker truck from the movie Duel.
skysoldier46 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought some Evergreen sheet stock 12"x24" and finished covering the ribs today, I had to buy an AMT T-500 kit off ebay which was not cheap either to do the cab. will be working on that after I do the boxes and axles for the trailer. -
Reading the Model Cars mag right now and in one pic they showed the old T-500 dash for this kit and it is attached to a sprue. Wonder if AMT is thinking of bringing back the T-500 model? Would be nice as refinishing a built model isn't always the best way to go as I am learning.

News Story About Model Building
skysoldier46 replied to Terry Jessee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
good story Terry and I do think a lot of baby boomers especially are going back to what they did as kids. I know I have. Big Sky Country huh? I lived in Cowley Wyoming once and am thinking of moving to Red Lodge MT. Keep on building Terry. -

helps a lot. too bad you didn't take a ton of pics while working at KW but I guess work was more important to the family. -

American Chopper Canceled

I wish they'd cancel that stupid show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Puts a bad light on us Southerners who are in no way that sort of family. -
3 scratch built rigs
skysoldier46 replied to skysoldier46's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
well crud was crud and this rig was cruddy. they had just washed it when I took the pic you see but the before pics I took it was a mess front to rear. well drilling thru limestone is very dirty and dusty and that is what I portrayed. Appreciate the comment but as said before only 2 or 3 of us enter heavy commercial in that show and until more do enter heavy rigs just aren't going to compete with tanks, planes and NASCAR that well. -

Austin, I will be there either as a vendor (if someone backs out) or as an entrant but one way or the other I will be there. hope to see you. And I will be bringing that well drill rig . -
scratchbuilt - ?
skysoldier46 replied to southpier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
well I consider what I do as being scratchbuilt. The only thing not is the engines, wheels and tires. the body, chassis and all other accoutrements are totally scratchbuilt from Evergreen stock and whatever else material wise I can find to use. -
thanks hooknladderno1. I did find a site called silverstatespecialities@hotmail.com that had some resin hood latches buit they no longer sell online. I'll check out the 2 you listed.

skysoldier46 replied to skysoldier46's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
showbuilder, I'll make a list of the models I want to get rid of and if you like let me know. I'll do that today and send you a message. -

skysoldier46 replied to skysoldier46's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
that would be great to meet another member from this site. Hope you can make it. Cookeville is a pretty good show, at least from the last 5 years that I've been to it. Lot's of vendors and models. I wanted to get a vendors table myself and sell off quite a few models I'll never build like tanks and planes. But they were already sold out unless a vendor drops out and then I will be vendoring. and enetering that Crane rig. Oh and I also just cannot find myself doing a really nice paint job. I like dirt. -

I personally am glad this show got cancelled. I hate bickering and arguing of any sort that isn't constructive. -

Thanks. And I am an IPMS member and those guys do know how to judge any model. My argument was that they simply need to expand their categories but until more heavy commercial builders enter that won't happen I fear. And that is a shame because there are some awesome commercial builders out there in the modeling community. By the way I will be entering it in the Cookeville show since this model the Crane Carrier drill rig has not been entered into the Cookeville TN show in March.
