  1. I saw somewhere on this site that someone mentioned where hood latches could be bought. I need them for my Pete 281 butterfly hood. now I can't find that thread. Anyone have an idea where it was or what aftermarket company makes them? Thanks for any help.
  2. I haven't either. the only pics you see are side views, front views and rear views, but in the movie where the truck went over the cliff I did catch a glimpse of the undercarriage of the trailer and it does not look like any of the models of Duel trucks I've seen. that one does have framing underneath. So I will do an undercarriage of the trailer. I still need to finish the tag axle and mount air bags and shocks to it then attach that to the frame of the truck.
  3. 1 bid already and that's all? Eric, very nice work would be nice to see a 6V53 detroit also, hint
  4. I did a scratchbuilt well drilling rig that has working hydraulics for the drill tower. It's in one of the threads here, I didn't use any grease for effects tho but the tower does raise and lower with no problems.
  5. I absolutely love seeing white stock being cut up into projects. GREAT scratchbuilding! Can't wait to see the finished product and also more in progress pics.
  6. Thanks for the info, building that tag axle today. it is also round right? that's what I've been seeing on Google so mine will be round. This is a copy I made from the IMC tanker model kit. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/Skysoldier46/DSC05369.jpg
  7. Fat Brian, how do I go about replicating the tag axle? I assume it is located behind the drive axle, right? Pics I've seen of tag axles only show a round bar with no gear box. Thank you for your reply too.
  8. Thanks Alan, good luck with your project, looks intense and time consuming.
  9. that's a very cool way to involve not only yourself but the community as well in model building.
  10. I wrote on MA's Foki site last month a question and still no answer. is that the only way to contact him anmd is it even guaranteed he'll contact back?
  11. I've got the issue of Fine Scale where Jim Stephens talks about replacing the air ride suspension with leaf springs and walking beam suspension on the frame. I don't know what much about trucks or undercarriages so if any of you who do know or drive big rigs can help me I'd appreciate it. What does that look like? I couldn't tell much from images I got off Google and the ones that did look good were so small I couldn't make heads nor tails out of it. I'm still going slow on the Duel truck and trailer. UPS where is my Evergreen?
  12. Thanks. I think I enjoy doing detail work more than cutting plastic. Here's a couple more pics of the crane carrier drill rig in progress I took. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/Skysoldier46/DSC05339.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/Skysoldier46/DSC05335.jpg
  13. I appreciate the comments Austin and Earl. yep they do need another category for heavy commercial but granted there wasn't that many of us guys there this year or last year. I still go tho and bring my stuff. I just like the fact that maybe it would influence others to try their hands at this sort of build. if you can grab one kids attention with it then it is worth the effort to build and show.
  14. Thanks guys I'll check both out.
  15. Who makes the best 5 hole Budd wheels resin wise? I have 1 that is white metal but don't want to cast it as I am out of mold making material and right now would rather just buy them. Jim
  16. trying to quit smoking after many years has to be the hardest thing anyone does. I need to quit myself. Have smoked since 1966 when I first went to VietNam. tried once on a bet with a paratrooper buddy and we stopped for a year until I saw him sneaking a smoke one day and out of anger I started back again. bad business it is.
  17. Thanks Skip. Do I know you? I lived in Ktown and worked out at Cinetel Productions as a Lighting Director and also entered a lot of contests in Ktown.
  18. Thanks for the tip on photoBucket!!! I don'y knmow why I didn't think of that way earlier. Here's a couple of early models I did from the released Mack truck. I call my blue trucks the Sagebrush Oil Well Drilling Co. The Waukesha engine is totally scratch built but the models themselves are pretty much out of the box. I did open up the hoods and detailed the engines on all of them. I just love old trucks and unusual trucks. I remember seeing some of Mark Savage's rigs a long time ago and that got me hooked, I went away from tanks and airplanes. That drill rig in the earlier pic took 2d place at the IPMS show in Murfreesboro TN last Saturday. I got beat out by a NASCAR model which had a lot of aftermarket items on it. the club who sponsored the show for 4 years now has not opened a Heavy Commercial category to my dismay. A good modeling buddy of mine John Mahaffey out of Memphis TN builds pretty unique old stuff too. Anyone know John? http://i5.photobucke...ldRigs003-1.jpg http://i5.photobucke...ieldRigs006.jpg http://i5.photobucke...05_edited-1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/Skysoldier46/006-2.png, this is the engine of that blue well drill rig. It's an old Continental
  19. I have cast resin tires and what I did since the tire will sit on one surface was to make a small evergreen square block and then glue it to the tire. Placed that in a box and poured my Aluminite in. let it cure and pulled the tire out with no problem, a little clean up and was good to go.
  20. basic didn't work and I'll ahve to google Flash 9 and try to install that. Thanks I googled Flash 9 and it says no longer available for download. I've tried every thing possible even downloaded Flash 9 finally and still won't let me upload pics. oh well....
  21. all the files I'm trying to upload are JPEG's (4) and 1 txt. still twirling arrows. i don't get this as those large pics loaded the other day. Is anyone else having a rough time uploading pics?
  22. well I reduced the images from maximum 2.16 mb to 3.73 to 4.58 bytes and still won't upload. thoroughly confused now as the other day I uploaded the large files.
  23. the largest size is only 2.16 mg, smallest 870 bytes. I do have Mozilla Firefox so I'll try again. Nope still won't upload. just arrows twirling around and around. 4 pics and 1 text.
  24. trying again then. Nope still won't upload. my BP is boiling so I'll log off tonight and try again tomorrow after I go to the Veterans' Day parade here in town. For all the vets on here, Thank you from this old paratrooper for stepping up and doing the right thing.
