  1. TJ, A good while ago I was an on the road salesman and had a customer who owned one of these dogs. He took it to work with him and the dog spent most of the day on the couch. The guy that worked with the dog owner said the dog was dumb as a rock. If all it did was spend most of its day on a couch I guess that would be understandable. That is the only dog of this breed that I've come across.

Personally I like them and I think it is a good choice for a nice pet. You've probably seen them but here's a couple links.

    Good luck!

  2. Tom, I buy and sell on eBay. Although I have never used "Make Offer" as a seller I do know that martinfan5 is correct in the fact that a seller can set a "reserve" on the offers they get. That eliminates the need for them to personally respond to a low-ball offer on what they have listed (I am NOT saying that is what you did, your offers were in the ballpark). I do not know all the facts in your case, did the seller show that at one time there were multiples of what you wanted, the sellers feedback score etc. I do not know all the nuances of eBay and MO but if the seller had multiples at one time it/computer may have rejected all your offers because it knew there were none left. I do not know how close to their selling price a seller can set their reserve at either. I'm not trying to defend the guy, any seller that has an item listed in multiple places should pay strict attention to what they have listed on eBay.

Nick, what cracks me up are the people who must brake with their left foot and they drive for miles and miles with their brake lights on. It's even more comical when they are on an interstate highway. You are better off getting around them or pulling over for a few minutes just to get them out of your way cause you never really know when they will actually brake.

  3. Maybe I'm wrong but from the pic this is what I might try.

Use hollow tires as mentioned above

Find a set of slightly wider rims of the same diameter or just a tad larger

Do your best to determine sidewall thickness and glue a strip of plastic on the inner part of each side of the wheel to keep the tire from going back inward

Stretch the tire over both lips

Depending on what tires you use all you should need to do is squeeze the center of the tire to give you the play you need to slip them over the lips. A softer tire would work easier

I can see it in my head but don't know if I explained it well enough. If needed I may be able to make a drawing of what I mean.

    Good luck!

  4. Thanks Bob, you may be right. I am using Testors plastic cement (liquid/bottle). I'm not having an issue with the frame. It's the wheels and a couple other parts. I may try to find something else that works better. I'll try what I am using on this new kit and see if it holds. I need to make the front wheel so I can make the front end. I may not have put enough rake in the frame.

I am gonna have a lot of parts left over, to be sure. I have a "tribute" build planned for the built up dresser I started this thread with. I really don't like to buy models already built but I find myself doing it every once in a while. I usually end up wanting to kick myself and I tell myself to not do it again but then something crops up I just can't let pass and I repeat the process all over.

  5. Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I am having issues with cementing the pieces together. My glue joints aren't holding. I do not know if it has something to do with the age of the plastic or from soaking it in Purple Power. My guess is the age of the plastic. It seems a bit hard and brittle. I've not had any issues with Purple Power but who knows??? I have tried model cement (bottled) and super-glue. Neither will make a good bond.

It's kind of hard to make progress if the parts don't stay together.

I'm looking at finding another kit that was not started. Don't know if that will help but right now I am going nowhere fast.

  6. I have never used it so I can not definitively answer your question. If you plan to use it in an airbrush you might have to thin it some as, I would guess, it is made ready to spray through a larger paint gun. Experimentation will tell you. I have thought about buying a quart of color myself but have not done so yet which has more to do with budget constraints.

  7. ARRRRGH,

I spent the weekend trying to form the fuel tank. I redid it in plastic and again snapped it while bending. I tried on a piece of K&S tin and their brass. I just can't do what I want in these mediums. An industrial press would sure come in handy about now  . I got frustrated and went back through the reference pics I took from the 'net to look for wheels that I like just to go on to something else. I found I really like this:

Hey, I'm talking about the gas tank!!! This design is much simpler and I think it will work better for me for a number of reasons besides it's simplicity. Gonna try to make one  .

  8. HEY YOU Great topic Harry. Pink Floyd is my favorite band. At the top of the list for me is the Wall. I have an engraved Zippo and I've made my own cremation box (just being prepared). They both say "and the worms ate into his brain..." The box is made from aromatic cedar and it is shaped like an old west casket. Kind of a moot point on the cremation box, I know.

I haven't been to more than a handful of concerts but I have seen Pink Floyd live twice (Alice Cooper twice too but that's a different topic).

Dave gets my vote as best guitarist, hands down. Now I gotta put on that CD  .

  9. To try to answer your question, it would be life changing for sure. First thing after turning in the ticket is to find a temporary place to live. I'd hire a trust-worthy lawyer and hire a trust-worthy investment firm. I'd move out of state to a farm in the middle of nowhere. I've thought about this and I have the lawyers, investment firm and which state I'd move to picked out already. All I need to do is win. Only problem is, I don't play that often so my odds of winning are slim at bestemot15.gif.

To try to clarify my first post, the lawyer would be used for advice before I turned in the winning ticket. There is probably a lot you would need to know. I would not have them on retainer. The investment firm would only see a small portion of the money, just to have the money make money. I would keep the rest in about 5 different lending institutions as, I believe but may be wrong, banks etc. are only insured up to a certain amount. Being I'm not sure, that is one of the questions I'd ask the lawyer.

Other than finding a farm in another state (just land with a house) I have not said what I would spend the money on. Moving is something I think you would need to do as eventually people would find out you were a winner and you would have more friends than you ever thought you had. This is not to say I would not share as I would, I just wouldn't want to be badgered by those looking for something for nothing.

The point I thought this thread was about was how winning would change your life, not what you would spend it on. That is what I've tried to answer. What I'd spend the money on is a subject for a different topic.

Would I be willing to move if I won a lot of cash? Yes, tomorrow.

  11. Thanks again Mark. I tried to bend the plastic today and, of course, it split. No luck trying to glue it either. I should be able to get a piece of metal sheet-stock this week-end for plan B. I still have to fetch my seamer. Plan C is a thicker piece of plastic and I will have to try hard for an idea if I need a plan D. Point.gif

I posted my project in the "All the Rest" section. It is titled: Digger Style 1/8 Harley. If you care to reply, please post there as I will probably have a Moderator delete this post. I do appreciate Bill's and your responses.

  12. I need to start building again and I think I found a project that piques my interest enough to get going. This style of bike was popular through the '70s. I still like it and it may be making a come-back.

I have been searching for this kit at a reasonable price for a long time with no success:

Most bikes of this style were based off the Sportster. There were some Big Twins too and I found this reference pic of a Knucklehead on the web. There were (to me) three big time builders and in order of my favorites they were: Ron Simms at Bay Area Cycles, Arlen Ness (who may have built the first???) and Dave Perewitz at Cycle Fab in Mass.

I bought this junkyard generator Shovel off feeBay, pic is before a purple pond soak:

I am attacking what I believe to be the most difficult parts for me. They are the frame, tank, wheels and front-end. I have the frame about ready except for some clean-up/detail.

    DSCF0211_zps8b010ceb.jpg

I will be making my own wheel centers. I need to decide what I want and that it looks right. BTW, the front wheel came from my parts box. HD dressers have 16 inch wheels front and back so they can be rotated. This front is 19 scale inches.

I have a post in the Q&A section about the gas tank. I tried in the .040 plastic I had and much to my fear, it split apart. I've never had any luck before regluing scribed parts. Not this time either. I will get it one way or another.

I can't say this will be a quick build but I try to work on it everyday.

If anyone has the above Sportster kit they are willing to trade or ???, please let me know. Unbuilt, built or parts/basket-case.

I may also be needing decals made down the road, if you make them please PM me and I can give you an idea what I am looking for.

    Comments/criticism welcome.

  13. Mark, Thank you for your input. Come to think of it I lent a HF seamer to a friend of mine. Til you mentioned it I had forgotten all about it. My "Old Timers" is is in high gear! If I don't use it for this project I will get it back. I am also not sure how well Dupli-Color paint will stick to aluminum. I may try to find a piece of tin to try.

Bill, I appreciate your input also. Pics below are my mock up. I may not have bent it at the exact places so it may be off a little but I am fairly certain that is pretty much in the ball-park.

I have never had success trying to reglue seams like these when they broke, hence, my fear. Never having used it I did not know that the baking soda/powder wasn't structural. Thanks for the heads up on the Loctite.

I used the .040 as that is what I had readily at hand. I am going to try the plastic this weekend and I will search for a thicker piece of plastic before then and try that too.

I will also mock up another piece of card-stock first as this one has taken some abuse. It will let me double check my measurements at the same time.
