  1. I suppose I could do that lol Thats sounds really good actually! name="martinfan5" post="1003041" timestamp="1377819594"] No thanks Thanks for your input! Edit: Multiquote only lets me quote two blocks of text, so sorry for the double post.
  2. I had to look up verbose I think sharing info and socializing would go really well together with a model building live stream to be honest. Its true about the time constraints, I live in Australia so the streaming would probably go from 12am onwards, probably for a few hours. I could also upload the parts where i 'get to the point' to youtube for people to watch whenever. As far as a script goes I was doing a big cleanup of my model-area (it was horrendous lol) and I was thinking what sort of stuff I could do that wouldnt be a) boring to watch and wouldnt take a long time to explain. It would definitely take practice to keep it going smoothly, as with anything really. There is a place on the stream for a little mini-description in the title, so that's where Id put whats going on in the stream. I can see what you're getting at, it could be quite droll if the streamer is just sitting there sanding a car-body for 20 mins lol What sort of how-to stuff would you guys and gals like to see anyway? If its chopping up model cars and leaving them to collect dust Im your guy! My laptop was built with programs like Skype in mind (it came with that program on it) So I think youre right an extra camera would be useful for another view, maybe I can construct a head-cam... or just tape a webcam to my head
  3. I agree with you to an extent, some of the how-to videos 'ham it up' a bit with a giant explanation. But some of them are brilliant with their explanations. Web-page tutorials can be a bit the same though, but you can skip all the text and get straight to the pictures. Even then there may be some not quite clear steps and methods. The reason I ask if there's any interest in live streams is that ten of thousands of people are watching video-game and TV show live streams 24/7 and I think model building as an online community shouldnt be left behind, its a growing media and very different from standard Youtube videos. With a live stream you get live interaction with the video-caster and can ask them questions and just chat. Although Id probably learn more from people viewing my videos than Id teach them, there are builders out there who could host 'how to' live streams and just generally build the community closer, and hey maybe even get some people interested in building!
  4. Thats why places like this are so great! Thats really interesting It would be fantastic to see model car manufacturers taking up ad-space in current 1:1 car magazines, but they'd have to content with the advertisements pertaining the the 1:1 hobby of car-building I suppose. Seeing as most model car builders are also 1:1 car enthusiasts, or started out as 1:1 enthusiasts, (for the most part) it would be perfect.
  5. Outside of the forums, I don't know anyone besides myself that builds model cars. I've tried getting my mates into model building, but all they see is the giant mess on my model-desk Ways to expand the hobby (in Australia anyway) would be to get model cars more exposure, for example in magazines. A popular modified car magazine here once had an article on model building, in one issue, once. Another Aussie magazine has a recurring double page article for kit reviews etc. The younger generations (mine included,) seem to more interested in newer cars, imports and mini-trucks for the most part, instead of hot rods and customs. With many exceptions of course. But I'll try to do my part in keeping the 'old iron' spirit alive
  6. I use the site called justintv. Its pretty simple to use, I have the same setup as you, the only hard thing is angling the laptop camera at the bench and reading the comments in the chat lol
  7. When I started building (I live in Australia) model kits were in most larger stores like K-mart and similar shops, and cost around the 15 to 30 dollar mark. These days I can only find model kits in chain toy stores, and they are priced anywhere from 40 to one case where a Mobius Hudson Hornet was 80 dollars. My LHS has always had kits, but its the only hobby shop I know if in my area. Id say whats killing the model building hobby here in Australia is the price and accessibility to kits that don't cost 'adult' money.
  8. Hey all, how many of us would be interested in seeing a model building live stream? Iv done a few short streams in the last few months and would like to see how much interest there is for them. Also, what sort of stuff would you all like to see on a stream? Iv seen some Youtube videos of model building and would love to get more interaction with other model builders through live streaming. Theres a chat-window on the streaming site I use, so you could all tell me how wrong Im doing everything Cheers, Kc
  9. Ta mate Still needs a ton of refining though lol
  10. Tried making wheels again. I need a soldering iron, glue wont stick this stuff together. Bend some wire from sparklers etc, thats the back side of it... pics.
  11. Thanks mate I'm really trying to make wheels that have the same 'dainty' style as the ones on this 1:9 scale motorcycle by Brizio, who is a member here. I saw this build in the scratchbuilding thread (http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67014&page=3). I hope Brizio doesnt mind me posting the picture here That is my favorite thread ever, there's so much skill here!!!!!
  12. More random painting. Using the salt method. Definitely need to use a different colour primer next time. But Im happy with my first attempt
  13. ta mate I painted a radiator lol Not for this build, I just felt like painting something
  14. Very very cool, looks like its shaping up to be a nice elegant sled
  15. Wicked I've always had problems with this kit bring in too many pieces, its very fiddly, will be watching!
  16. Ta mate Pic-at-ures Not really the style I was going for, but I went with it, really rough etc. but yeah I think Ill make another couple different designs. This ones a bit to race-ish.
  17. I had a go at making fancy wheels with the rims and tires of the spoked ones, still working out a design... Going to make new rear wheels that are a bit thicker and bigger than the stock spoked items. Woohoo for destroying sheet styrene!
  18. I was thinking about scratching up some more 'dainty' looking wheels
  19. Thanks Im still not sure about the wheels. There was a motorcycle and sidecar scratchbuilt on here somewhere that had awesome scratchbuilt wheels and Id love to have a go at building some of my own. I just need lots of practice Wheels are proving very difficult for me, I can never seem to get perfect circles.
  20. Its been quite a while. Finished a bunch of tafe work so I allotted myself a little time to make a mess at the bench. Rescued this thing from under a pile of random desk-mess and did a bit of a mockup. Then got straight back to tafe work :/ Hoping to have the time to do little bits and pieces on this one. Still undecided on the front grill situation. Maybe a tractor-style...
  21. I tripped over with an exacto knife in my hand and this happened. Started life as a roadster, but its sucked its boot lid to the back of the cab. I lazily kicked up whats left of the chassy at the back, a lot of cleaning up to do on that part. Thinking of making a more suitable bed for it. Super special wheels and tires for more nice. Still working on the curved corners.
  22. In awe of your skills mate, and your tools. Im gunna carry around a picture of a Sherline Mill and Lathe to keep me goin! I just found the prices, eek! Theres tools are definitely a long-term goal!
  23. Sweet! I love the 90s lowriders! Looking good, cant wait to see more piccies!
  24. I once had a toy truck that puffed smoke, I had to put some sort of oil in it. Maybe you could try using those fake cigarettes that emit vapor?
