Upsides and downsides to Lindberg kits?

The newer tooling isn't bad. The 66 Chevelle, 61 Impala, 64 Dodge come to mind. Those ones are actually really nice -

From a Round2 post on Facebook: These are great ideas - just to let everyone know 2013 is already planned and 2014 is under consideration. There are many things that go into the decision to issue or re-issue a model kit. The primary concern is - will it sell? Secondary to that is what it will cost to develop. While there are some kits that would be amazing to make - the demand is so low that it is cost prohibitive - but it is fun to dream about what kind of cars we would have if there were no limits, right? -

Were all the faux box art pictures not posted by you on post #50, following this quote?: That'll do me for this year, thank you. The ones I want next year I'll post in September. I am sorry, if you requested them I figured it would be reasonable to assume that you thought these would be good idea's to create the tooling for, then produce and market them. That was less than half a brain making a logical conclusion. -

it has gone off on a tangent. I didn't expect responses to the post I started. Just hoped that people would go to Round2's facebook page to give some inputs. -
You craftsmanship is as great as your photography skill. WOW! The filter see through of the Ferrari is killer!

I googled the truck. A few sights actually describe it the way you interpreted it. No foul -

well... with all the other versions of this 32 maybe RM will see fit to come up with a accurate vintage version. Cross you fingers on that one. -
SOHC Motor? Very nice

Danno... you proved my point. The kit makers can make all sorts of new stuff! but there are going to be some misses. I am sure they cannot please everyone. -

So you see a market for all of these? Not saying I would mind seeing them on the shelves, but not saying I would buy all of them either. They would be all new tools for cars that probably will not sell well. Marketing research... it's not just what the "core group" wants. Look at the 1:1 world of trends for a moment. Let's take "DONKS" for instance. I have no interest in the subject matter. One of the worst automotive trends I have ever seen IMO... BUT, a company had the guts to tool up new parts to modify current kits to follow the trends. Same thing with lowriders. Have you been to a news stand lately? Customs, Gassers, vintage style hot rods, muscle cars... these are the vogue thing right now. And if you look really closely alot of the re-issue's have been right in line with the trends. I have no ambition to convince you that the current release's and re-issues are what EVERYONE wanted. Someone did research somewhere and figured they would be a good gamble. I am not sure why there seems to be so much gruff about posting something this simple. -
I'm diggin the paneling on the roof. Are you going for late 50's, early 60's custom or lowrider style?

We live in a instant gratification world... die cast always seemed like cheating to me. The only die cast I have ever purchased for myself was hot wheels when I was a kid. I have them, but they were all gifts. -
Bill... while I have never built a 1:1 kit car, or a street rod from ground up I have had my frustrations with old camamro's and newer Mustangs. Just because it says it fits, does not always mean it will. I recall an Edelbrock TPI set up that I had to add EGR passages to the TB that should have been there. The car would have never ran right without them, hell no TPI injected car would have ran right without them. Bolt on my butt... Also the term with hi po parts that come to mind is "MADE IN CHINA". Off shore manufacturing at its finest.

I pretty sure there is a difference here. If you buy a "kit" you have a little expectation it is diesigned to sort of fit together. Buying a resin body with the intent of scratch building everything, you knew what you were getting into. If that's you skill set then I applaud you.

The point was they were strange. Questionable to some. I have all the Roth kits in my stash. To me they are a piece of polystyrene history. The epitome of wild 60's show cars. They have aged well... as I believe this kit will as well. As for the dropped I-beam. Some resin caster will rise up and make it right. -
I refuse to round file a model because it is kicking my butt. I did build all the Gassers I mentioned. LOTS or trial fitting, filing and super glue with zip kicker. The Vette got me the worst though. The chrome was terrible as was with the others, the windsheild was about 3/16th's of an into wide, and the side coves were way out to lunch. Forget about the front hinge. I will eventually scratch build one someday that actually works. The wheels are okay, but the rims are too small for the rear slicks. I've built a few Buttera kits... very fiddly but you can make them look alright. They are right up there with the old Revell Gassers like the 41 Willys, 51 Henry J, 38 (?) Anglia and the 50 Austin. Lots of patience required.

Wish they would re-issue this one. Seeing your build make me want one

...Roth had questionable taste too, those kits still seem to sell pretty well. I think the kit will age fine. Glad to have more new choices. -
That's the name I couldn't think of... stellar build so far. Very period correct.
-
One of my all time favorite kits. The only change I would make to the one I built 20 years ago would be to update the wheels.Looking good!

The last issue of the 33 Willys street machine... the 57 Corvette gasser, and the 37 Chevy gasser come to mind. Now, granted this was when Racing Champions was handling all the old AMT kits.

Initially I didn't start the thread to end up as another I wish for a....... I just wanted to let guys who build know that round 2 was looking for input. I may live in a fantasy world but I do believe the guys that handle new projects and marketing surf these boards to see what the next big new kit or reissue could be. Where SAE (not SAM) used to do the top 10 most requested kits the manufactures did listen. Sure it took time but I believe there is never a better time than now to be a car modeler. Between the new technology and the restoration of old tooling for re-issues the variety is greater than it ever has been.
